  1. Update--Phegley and Rienzo are cleaning out their lockers. Heading to minor league camp. So are Wilkins and Surkamp.
  2. Scioscia bringing a good lineup for Johnson to face. CSN and MLB Network https://twitter.com/EKayAngels/status/44630...3131904/photo/1 https://twitter.com/ChiTribKane/status/4463...2879361/photo/1 Off day tomorrow. I'm guessing there will be a large group of roster cuts today. Very few guys on the bench today. Phegley not listed as a bench player or as an off day. He might be on the chopping block this morning.
  3. Arizona is a good place to train and get their work in, but the games don't resemble anything real. Hard infields, high skies, breaking pitches don't break. It's nice background noise, but not much else.
  4. Royals using Ventura 3rd in the rotation means the Sox will probably miss him the first weekend. Quintana vs Guthrie for the Royals home opener Johnson vs Chen Sale vs Shields (seen that before)
  5. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) Anybody seen more than one of Paulino's starts so far? I thought he looked terrible yesterday, despite results. He had no idea where that ball was going when it left his hand. Stuff was solid, though. Is this pretty much how it's been so far, or did I watch a particularly off performance? I caught a couple innings this morning, and I agree the results were better than what I saw. He got away with a lot of bad pitches. At the very least, he'll be given a couple months of starts if his arm is healthy. If after 10 starts, he has 5 quality starts, around 55-60 innings, and an ERA around 4.50, that's pretty much what you would hope for from a guy in his position.
  6. https://twitter.com/DanHayesCSN/status/445955041656967169 Beck impressing. It would be great if they can get him in the rotation going into next year, like they did with Johnson this year. And then whoever they draft in June by OD, 2016.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) All ex-players tell stories. We just hear Hawks on a daily basis. Maybe I wasn't clear. Stories are fine when they're applicable. But when it comes to the "In my time zone..." stuff, he needs to let it go. He's become way too preachy the last few years. And maybe some of it is that he doesn't have any chemistry with Stone. It's just a bad broadcast team.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) It has been torture to listen to spring training games this year. There haven't been a lot of Sox broadcasts, so I have been forced to listen to the other teams feeds. It makes me want to kick puppies. It's tough when other broadcasters are misidentifying Sox players and mispronouncing names. Hawk still has good pipes and energy, which is great. But he would be so much better if he would completely ignore that he was once a player. If he just called the game on the field and let the color guy do his job, he would be so much better. He's constantly talking about his own playing career and how things used to be, and it's not entertaining. And if he's spewing the same stuff over and over, it's unlistenable---"the first rule in baseball is to catch the ball"....yes Hawk, we know, thank you.
  9. My opinion of Hawk is that he's getting older and crankier...and he's also putting on a show for MLB Network. The more he does "The Hawk Show", the more they feature him. Bottom line-- Hawk wants to be in the Hall of Fame. The more he thinks he's making a mark on the game and the longer he stays, the better chance he has to make it in the Hall----at least in his mind.

Accuweather has 61 for opening day. 50's in Denver for week 2. We'll see if it holds.
  11. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Blake Tekotte just made an INCREDIBLE catch http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/video/v31569081/...140317_20231604
  12. Paulino said he threw a cutter for the first time today...six of them. Coooop
  13. 5 shutout innings. Did I really see 37 pitches through 4.2 innings? That can't be right, right?
  14. Didn't Bossard say a week or so ago, he was going to basically tent the field with heaters underneath to thaw it? Whatever. 2 weeks from now, I trust there will be a baseball game going on.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) You can't bury a back up catcher on the bench if you are only carrying 2. Repeating...starting once a week and coming in during blowouts. If that's not your definition of burying him on the bench, fine. Less than 120 PAs if they can get away with it.
  16. Unless they make a trade, I'm rooting for Nieto to make it. If he's starting once a week and coming in during blowouts, they can kind of bury him on the bench without losing him. He looks like he can hit.
  17. Yeah, I'm going to pass watching this tonight. Good to see Nieto, Danks, and Semien get some hits. Purcey, Putnam, and Rienzo helping the staff make a decision to cut them later on.
  18. So is this guy on Lake Shore Dr ever getting out of his car?
  19. On the Score, interactive after the 5th. Tape delay on MLBN at 7pm Semien draws walk off Darvish
  20. Cleto looked pretty good last night. I believe he's out of options, so maybe they see what they can get out of him in April and send Webb and Petricka to Charlotte to start things off.
  21. Patrick Corbin has an elbow... https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/445231258302300160
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) Hawk is Hawk so you either hate him or love and while I agree that Stone is pompous, Stone is till very good at his job, he has a very strong baseball acumen. I have to disagree that "Hawk is Hawk". The thing is, he's worse now than ever before. He talks about his playing career from 45-50 years ago more now than ever, and it just isn't interesting. Everything that comes out of his mouth is "the best" this or "the greatest" that. He's annoying. The catch phrases are fine, but he's bad at calling a game, and he has no chemistry with Stone. Stone would be palatable with a different PBP guy, but with Hawk, all I hear is his whiny voice, which I never liked when he was with the Cubs. And he's not as smart as he thinks he is. I'd rather have a younger PBP voice that didn't play, and a former player doing color that at least played in the last 20-30 years. Really, I just want broadcasters that do a solid job, and stay out of the way of the action on the field. Hawk gets in the way of enjoying the game.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) I won't mind if the Beckham oblique queers any Cervelli deal. Just seems like a treading-water move and does not excite. I'd like to see Marcus play nothing but 2B at Charlotte for the near term - looks like he could use some refinement there, based on last night's observations. Hahn spoke to the media yesterday, and hinted that if they were going to trade for a catcher, it would have to be a long term solution--meaning probably not Cervelli, who is in his late 20's and not really a starter type. Speaking of Hahn, he'll be on the Score at 11:30.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) Good god Abreu, he's going to kill someone this year. Even before that comebacker, I've had that same thought this spring training. His bat is so live. I hope we don't see a pitcher carried off on a stretcher this year. --- On Hawk Harrelson...he makes me not want to watch White Sox baseball. And Steve Stone is a pompous ass. It's going to be a better day when the Sox have new TV and Radio broadcasters. When Darrin Jackson is the best of the four by a wide margin, there's something wrong.
