Expectations: Jose Abreu
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) Bruce Levine @MLBBruceLevine 37m White Sox slugger Jose Abreu will have his first state of spring training media event this mourning . Levine must be in mourning because he's not on the Cubs.

It's cold outside
Hard to believe the Sox have a home game in 6 weeks. This winter just won't end.

Jim Bowden predicts Jose Abreu as favorite for AL ROY
Never liked it when an old guy comes from another country and wins the ROY. So I'm not going to care if Abreu wins it. I just want him to have a good season. If it were up to me, you would have to be in your Age 25 season or earlier to qualify.

QUOTE (Whitey @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 07:21 AM) I had the chance to meet Jim Fergosi when I was 11 at a car dealership promotion. It was right after Greg Walker's seizure, who was one of my favorite players on the Sox at the time. We talked about that and he signed an autograph for me. I can't recall the details of the conversation, but I do remember walking away thinking that Jim Fergosi was an awesome dude. I liked him ever since. RIP Since you spelled his name wrong, it reminds me when he was hired by the Sox, his jersey had FERGOSI. Fregosi said, "My ex-wife and kids used to misspell it, too--except when it was time to go to the bank".- Jim Fregosi has now passed away.
Fregosi passed away. A credit to Baseball. Rest in Peace.- Spring Training 2014
A couple weeks from games starting and no broadcast schedule yet. Odd.- 2013-14 off season player movement thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) Yeah, I have no idea what world that Paul Konerko would be considered on the same plane as Jeter. He's more famous and has more money. That makes him "classier", and therefore more deserving of gifts. Oh, and they can start engraving Jeter's name on the All Star Game MVP trophy right now. That's his.- 2013-14 off season player movement thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) As much as I love Konerko, Paulie isn't in the same stratosphere as Jeter. I guess if you're in the top 1% instead of the top 2% of your profession and play in a bigger market, then you're more deserving and "classier". It's BS. All of it.- 2013-14 off season player movement thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) The Jeter farewell tour is going to be awful. All season long. And considering he played the majority of his career under the heavily unbalanced schedule, I really don't think teams outside the AL East should do anything for him. He played 68 games at the Cell. BFD. Great career, but this gift-giving, ceremony stuff has got to stop. Especially when it's so biased towards the Yankees. I hope the Sox ignore it unless the Yankees announce they're doing something for Konerko.- 2013-14 off season player movement thread
Jeter and Konerko retiring after this year. Let me guess...the Yankee will get the victory tour.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Didn't Jeff Liefer wear that number? He did. Roberto Hernandez wore 39 for 7 years.- It's cold outside
If we can trust the 2-week forecast, this might be the last day with a High under 20. We should get some good melting weather next week too.- '83 unis are back this year
While I like them as a novelty, it's time to put 1983 to bed. 30 years is enough for a team that didn't win a pennant. And don't get me wrong, it was a fun team, but enough is enough. As far as uniform changes, I always like the 50's uniforms when I see them. The red trim instead of silver would look sharp. It also might be wise for the White Sox to wear....you know....white socks.- No more days until Pitchers and Catchers reports
QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 2, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) I'm pretty pumped to see what Paulino can bring. What's the latest on his health? I've heard Cooper say the rotation is looking like- Sale, Danks, Quintana, Johnson, and Paulino. (not in that order) So he should be ready for the beginning of spring training.- No more days until Pitchers and Catchers reports
Fact: Opening Day is next month.- No more days until Pitchers and Catchers reports
The day pitchers and catchers report isn't about the players playing catch and practicing covering first base. It means winter is almost over, and actual games are about 6 weeks away. It's a great day for these reasons.- No more days until Pitchers and Catchers reports
Sox first spring game in 4 weeks. Hopefully get to see Abreu, Eaton, and Davidson play their first unofficial game. Opening Day- 2 months from today.- Keith Law's top 100
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Hawkins has potential to be in the top half of that list. I am really curious to see what the White Sox do with him this year. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...ourtney-hawkins- Batting Order Options
By the time they get to opening day, I hope it's something like this, unless they get another catcher: 1. Eaton - CF 2. Ramirez - SS 3. Abreu - 1B 4. Dunn - DH 5. Garcia - RF 6. Viciedo - LF 7. Davidson - 3B 8. Flowers - C 9. Beckham - 2B Bench- Konerko 1B/DH, Danks OF, Garcia IF/OF, Nieto C (rooting for Nieto to be good enough to keep) Move De Aza, Keppinger, and Gillaspie by opening day.- 2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 8m Hahn admits No. 3 draft pick in June probably will be spent on pitching. Four of top five guys available, as of now, are pitchers. That's fine. Stick with what you know. Not sure what number pick the 2nd round pick is, but maybe that's where they take a high ceiling position player.- MLB.com Top 100
I'd like to see how prospect lists from 5-10 years ago panned out. They're fun I guess, but they're also kind of irrelevant in the long run.- jersey numbers
