  1. Looks like the Sox have 14 players signed at 73.425. So probably low 80's by opening day. Unless...
  2. Beckham signed for 4.175 mil.
  3. I thought Gordon Beckham was going to be as good as Ryne Sandberg....and that was before he got called up. Was looking good going into 2010, then something happened.
  4. It would be great to see Sale and Tanaka paired up. Never thought Abreu was coming here, so you never know. Hahn's been creative before. Maybe a 6-7 yr deal with an opt-out after 3 or 4. That would be a great way to make Soxfest an interesting event.
  5. So we should probably hear Beckham and De Aza signed in the next couple hours. Sox usually don't go to arb cases.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Cute idea. Bad timing. Why the hell would we have an unrelated throwaway episode so close to the end of the show? Awful. Exactly!
  7. Mariners close to signing John Buck. So there goes that Plan C or D.
  8. Dylan Axelrod back on a minor league contract. Because of course that was going to happen.
  9. Just for brevity, I'll say he comes up with an OPS+ of 111.
  10. I'm more lenient on the PED era when it comes to the Hall of Fame. I would never put in Sosa, Palmeiro, or McGwire (or Sheffield next year), because I think they're all about PEDs. They don't get to milestone number without roids. After the milestones, they weren't the best of the best of their era. But I could vote for Clemens as one of the best pitchers of all time, and Piazza and Ivan Rodriguez as the two best catchers of that time. The game of baseball was on steroids---teams knew, the league knew, the ball was juiced many years---hell, the media knew and didn't do anything for a long time. I'm proud that Frank didn't do anything, but I'm in the camp of--How do you have a Hall of Fame without Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens? Hell, it might be fun to see their speeches and which current HOF players don't show up.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) A vote for Hahn is a vote for KW If that makes you feel better. Maybe it's a vote for KW as team president to allow Hahn to do things in his way. But with KW as GM, I'm not so sure we'd be seeing the same moves.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:37 AM) Sheffield was one of the biggest names in the Mitchell Report. No chance for him. I really he hopes he falls off the ballot fast. Maybe it's good to keep the voting limit to 10 for a while.
  13. Ultimately, Hahn will be judged by playoff appearances and championships. But I like that he has a plan and there is a balance between helping the major league team and getting young players in a variety of ways. I think the second half of this decade could be very good for the Sox if they hit on some of these young players.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) This game is so cool to watch. Nice job csn. Methinks the ball was a little juicy in 1994. Huge numbers in 113 games before the strike.
  15. 1994 game on CSN now. Frank goes deep a couple times. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...199405250.shtml
  16. Greg Maddux said something interesting today. When asked about his minor league career, he said, "You gotta keep moving up. You can't repeat a level." I thought of some current Sox minor leaguers. It may not be true for every player, but when Greg Maddux says it, there's some truth in it.
  17. Sox sign Eric Patterson to a minor league deal.
  18. CSN is covering the Hall of Fame press conference at 10am tomorrow.
  19. Live stream of Thomas press conference. http://www.csnchicago.com/page/livewhitesox
  20. Mike Rizzo filled out that scouting report. Looking at that draft, falling to 7th....unbelievable. We hit the jackpot.
  21. Percentage changes: Biggio +6.6 Piazza +4.4 Everyone else went backwards. Lee Smith, Edgar Martinez, Larry Walker, and Fred McGriff had huge reversals. Hopefully these guys will at least make the rule change about unlimited voting a reality.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) LOL "Steroids weren't illegal!" ORLY? Wonder if the DEA would agree with that. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm glad the Sox didn't have a guy like Sosa putting up numbers like that during that time (98-03). I mean, yes, Albert Belle was juiced out of his mind, but he wasn't "our" guy. Sosa became a Cubs guy. It would make me puke if a Sox fan was making a case for a juiced player who only had Hall numbers with steroids.
  23. Here are the full results, if they haven't been posted: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article//greg-madd...ent_id=66395522
  24. I'm not going to link some of his tweets, but holy s***, Wayne Randazzo is a f***ing idiot.
  25. Epic fail on Whitesox.com not having Frank there already.
