Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
Anyone who votes for Sosa is an idiot. Anyone who turns in a ballot with less than 10 names is an idiot.

Brent Morel claimed by Blue Jays off of waivers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) They aren't going into the season with a bench of Konerko, Gillaspie, Keppinger, and De Aza. Someone's going to have to be moved somewhere - there's not even a spot for a catcher on the bench right now. None of those guys can be optioned and it seems pretty silly to acquire Eaton and Davidson and then send them to Charlotte. I agree, that won't be the bench. Opening Day, I think the bench will be Jordan Danks, Leury Garcia, Paul Konerko, and a catcher not named Flowers.

I think half of the 40-man has been turned over in the last 6 months. Busy December.

Eric Surkamp claimed by White Sox
Might be a better version of what Leesman is trying to be. I could see Surkamp, Purcey, and Leesman competing for one spot in the pen.

2013 TV Thread
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Oh yeah, I find it hilarious when those guys can't keep straight faces. Like when Bill Hader was doing his Weekend Update skit as "Devon" or something, and him and Seth Meyers couldn't hold it together. To me, Fallon goes in to the skit with the intention of breaking up. Hader probably did too, but when the Stefan character used to read off the club features, Hader was reading some of them for the first time because the writers would make changes at the last minute just to break him up.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) I about died with Fallon broke character during the Family Feud bit. Haven't we seen that a billion times now? Not funny anymore. Timberlake's impression of him was pretty good though.

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 10:03 PM) Tom Murphy though. That'd be a nice pickup. Seriously, who are all of these catching Murphy's I've never heard of?

Hahn's next move?
I've never heard of Murphy until tonight. That said, the more catchers to compete in spring training, the better.

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Balfour failed his physical. Orioles are moving on. Kinda funny.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) Poor wee little Jake Elmore's gonna have to wear 38. No little infielders should be wearing pitcher numbers. Pablo Ozuna and Eduardo Escobar looked so weird wearing 38. I'm guessing Eaton will wear 1, Semien will stay with 5, Sanchez 13, Elmore 18, Davidson 25, Thompson 26, Nieto 31, Garcia 34, Abreu 79. Does Dunn switch back to 44? I think 13 is going to stay dormant for a while. Isn't Carlos Sanchez's twitter carlossan29? Mitchell is assigned 29 now, but I'm sure that could be changed. Dunn, I would think stays the same. Scott Downs wears 37 mostly. So Thigpen may have to stick with 58. Jose Quintana needs a new number. Sox have too many pitchers in the 60's. Those should be the coaches numbers.- Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Like, will be later today, or is on right now? 2p is the first airing. They replay it a bunch later on, I'm sure.- Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
Davidson is on Intentional Talk today. They like his hair. (by cracky)- 2013-14 off season player movement thread
Twins sign Kurt Suzuki. He'll hurt us at least a couple times this season.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Why do coaches even wear numbers? Or uniforms, at all. They probably could do some nice athletic-wear which would be marketable to sell.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) I would delete Baines & Guillen from that list. And I've never heard of Charley Lau. My point exactly. He and Loren Babe were coaches in 1983. Both died of cancer after the 83 season. For whatever reason, Reinsdorf decided that #6 wouldn't be issued. Walt Hriniak was a disciple of Lau's hitting methods, so he wore 6 when he was the hitting coach. 30 years is enough.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) There are at least 86 other numbers they can choose from, 87 if you include 00. Frankly, I don't ever want to see anyone else wearing 35 again in a White Sox uniform. Maybe, in 500 years, when there are 25 numbers exactly to choose from, we can have this conversation again. I'm ok with Hall of Famers getting their number retired, or guys that played with the Sox for 15 years. Minoso is ok. Konerko will be fine. Buehrle will eventually--he's borderline. 3, 6, 13, and 19--I'd unretire. And I agree with JPN about the coaches poaching low numbers. Those should be for current players. Baseball is a low number sport.- jersey numbers
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) That's his plan. His mother picked it out for him because she thought it would be an easy number to be remembered by. Or he turns 35 in January.- jersey numbers
Current and eventual...14 numbers. Seems excessive. 2- Nellie Fox 3- Harold Baines 4- Luke Appling 6- Charley Lau 9- Minnie Minoso 11- Luis Aparicio 13- Ozzie Guillen 14- Paul Konerko 16- Ted Lyons 19- Billy Pierce 35- Frank Thomas 42- Robinson 56- Mark Buehrle 72- Carlton Fisk- jersey numbers
QUOTE (black jack @ Dec 20, 2013 -> 07:16 AM) It really irks me that 3 is retired. Agreed. It irks me more that a dead hitting coach from 30 years ago has a retired number too. I think they have some type plaque up somewhere for Charley Lau. That's good enough. Without officially retiring his number, there's no real point to it. Give 6 to somebody that wants it.- jersey numbers
I would think there will be a lot of changes with numbers. There have some number change requests listed in the mlb.com transactions, which is kind of weird. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/?tcid=...2&year=2013- Why Can't This Team Contend In 2014?
I'll settle for watchable. Higher energy, better effort, better execution. And the young players to be good enough to start 150 games each. It would take almost 100% health, Abreu to be some monster star player, and Ventura to prove he's a good manager for the Sox to win 90+ games. - 2013-14 off season player movement thread
