QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:10 PM) Ok, now that I found out the Sox let Salta go to FLA for 3/21, I'm going to be PISSED if we give up talent to get freaking Lobaton. Holy s***. Whatever the Sox have to give up for Lobaton probably won't be worth anything to get mad about.

How many games does he average over the next 7 years? 120?

I think Phil Rogers has a crush for Granderson. And not just a man crush. Full on. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/408053030651568128

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) If someone said I can have Salty for 3/21 or Beltran for 3/48, I'm picking Salty a thousand times though The Royals are in a position where they have to overpay to get the guys they really want. Same thing with the Mariners. I think Beltran will benefit being in the AL. Maybe Butler will get traded next week. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) Granderson is one of my favorite athletes of all-time, but I'd prefer to not lose a high 2nd round pick for him. Gut feeling, the Sox were interested in Granderson for 2 years, but not 3. And he'll get three from somebody. Same thing with Salty.

Wow, busy day in baseball. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) Salty is a Marlin. Hopefully it's Alonso, Jaso, Rosario, Castro in that order. Do you mean Grandal?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) 3rd move in 26 hours. Jealous. Not that Dylan Axelrod getting non-tendered isn't exciting stuff, but... -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Fathom, rebuilding with guys like Loboton?? Cmon. Lobaton is a place holder while the Sox are rebuilding.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) K0na broke something on twitter last year or a couple years ago. I can't remember what it was though. EDIT: Looking through his twitter, he broke the Buehrle to TOR trade, the Danks extension, and the Peavy to SOX and Jon Garland trades as well. Teahen to Toronto for Frasor was last thing I remember. Whatever his connection was, is probably not there anymore.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) There isn't much else for Phegley to prove in Charlotte. Flowers gets dealt. Lobaton and Phegley split time in Chicago. Phegley is terrible though.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) I want better than Lobaton. I don't think it's out of the question that Flowers ends up traded, and Phegley goes to Charlotte. PLenty of time.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) All these teams are making moves these past couple weeks while the White Sox just sit there, masturbating. It's a little frustrating seeing other teams get stuff done, no doubt. But we'll see what happens during the Winter Meetings. It's more exciting when it happens there anyway. It gets more attention. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Not arguing the point, because it's your call, but I think a valid comparison to Morris is Buehrle. Do you believe Buehrle is a Hall of Famer? If Buehrle would have continued innings-wise what he did 2001-2005, and maybe added some more postseason success, plus keep going 5-6 more years, I think he would have had a good case. I remember saying if Buehrle did in his 30's what he did in his 20's, then he's got a hell of a chance at the Hall. Unfortunately, he's backed down on innings, and hasn't done anything in the postseason of note since 2005.
-
1979-1992, the average AL start was 6.23 innings. Jack Morris averaged an inning more than that...over 14 seasons. Again, I'm not saying somebody is wrong for thinking he's not a HOF. There were better pitchers than him in shorter bursts. But the guy was way durable in his specific era, and did some things in the game that were special.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) Averaging 7.3 IP in that era wasn't a big deal. There wasn't the 6/7/8/9 bullpen set up like we see today. Teams had closers, and maybe a set up man. He led the league once in IP, and was in the top 3 a few other times. The thing is averaging a bunch of innings doesn't make you a HOFer, at least not in my book. I suppose we could find out what the average IP start was from 1979-1992, but the question was--who else during that time matched his durability? Nobody. And I'm not saying people are wrong for not thinking he's a Hall of Famer, but the dismissal of him being a slightly better than average pitcher is garbage.
-
Jack Morris doesn't get enough credit for the innings he logged. Naysayers want to dismiss him as some league average starter, which is crazy. Show me the other pitchers during 1979-1992 that averaged 7.28 innings per start...while averaging 241 innings a year. He was unique to his era. When I take into consideration innings pitched, winning teams and being the ace on those teams, and the time frame in which he pitched, the Hall wouldn't be lesser with him in it.

Just seeing the names Axelrod, Flowers, and Gimenez has been puke-worthy. Hopefully Hahn gets some s*** done over the next ten days. The Charlotte roster is shaping up nicely, but that offense is still looking like garbage.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) @scottmerkin: White Sox also have re-signed Hector Gimenez to a Minor League deal Watch them invite Axelrod to camp.
-
Axelrod non-tendered.
-
Has anything changed? He could still be traded. The Sox could still sign or trade for another catcher as a #1 or platoon.
-
Don't the Sox have to announce tendering contracts to Beckham, De Aza, and Viciedo? Maybe somebody is getting traded in the next 5 hours.
-
I used to be on the Jack Morris side, and I'm not against him getting in. But I understand how the modern stats can decrease his value. It was easier to just say he won 250+ games, averaged 240+ innings for 14 years, 175 complete games, and won championships with three different teams, including winning one of the most famous Game 7's. If Morris got in eventually, and was considered the worst starting pitcher in the Hall---well somebody has to be the worst, and he wouldn't be a bad one. On Mattingly, he was awesome, and it was a cool experience to watch him play at his peak at Comiskey Park. To me, he's a lot like Kirby Puckett, but Mattingly won an MVP. In his first year of eligibility, he got 28.2%. So he had support to begin with, but then voters just gave up on him. He was a Hall of Fame talent that got hurt too soon.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Had someome purpose that we trade for Arencibia.....but also giving up Gordon and Flowers.... I purposely propose we just see what happens the rest of the day, and then talk about it.

Kazmir is an underrated good story of 2013.
