  1. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Just out of curiousity, but what day is the Rule 5 draft? Tomorrow? Thursday morning. That's the last thing they do at the Winter Meetings and then they leave.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 2m Halladay and Blue Jays will announce a 1-day contract at press conference so he retires as a jay 10-year period 170-75, 2.97 ERA, 2 Cy's. Postseason no-hitter. Hall of Famer.
  3. Even if Frank gets in this year, he'll be a side show to the Braves group. If it meant Minnie Minoso standing next to Frank, I wouldn't mind if he went in another year. Not sure when Minoso will be voted on again, but he totally deserves to be in.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) They actually have prospects at positions that make the most sense, but this can't be what Hahn would consider to be a fair trade. He has to feel he won by a wide margin. Not only Hahn, but Kenny Williams and Jerry Reinsdorf. This is a nice diversion while they get actual moves done...hopefully.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) This would make absolutely no sense. Semien can play the positions that you would need Uribe for. Unless they plan on trading Alexei or Beckham. I'd have to see what other moves they make to see how Uribe would fit in for the next couple years. Plus he's regarded as a great clubhouse guy, and the Sox need some of that.
  6. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 1m #WhiteSox want Chase Headley but dont want to part w/ Jose Quintana to get him. Controllable years key. #Padres http://bit.ly/1fbi2pS If they can't get Headley for prospects, really there's no point. Morel, Mitchell, and Phegley. Take our junk and see what you can do with it.
  7. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 20m @jonmorosi just dropped Chris Sale's name as a possible trade option. He'd have tremendous value and @whitesox have 3rd pick in '14 draft. Just selling the sizzle.
  8. And looking at it from the trading team's perspective, why would you give up the farm for a guy built like Sale? So far so good in durability, but stuff happens. The great ones that pitch to their late 30's are freaks of nature. For the same reason why teams didn't draft Chris Sale, they probably don't want to trade for him now either--especially with what the Sox would want in return.
  9. Jon Morosi (SI) has really been selling the "trade Chris Sale" stuff. Not based on anything he's heard, but just his own idea. Kinda like Phil Rogers and a Chicago team getting Granderson.
  10. Watch the Sox get Ichiro, because that would be such a White Sox thing to do.
  11. We need a "Whoa" moment in the next four days. It would be funny if they did nothing.
  12. Hahn interview this morning... http://chicago.cbslocal.com/audio/986-670-...-interviews#986
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) Can you summarize what he said on the score please? They talked about Konerko, which is old news at this point. Same old stuff... Trying to get players that fit into the long term like Abreu and Garcia. Would like to join the fun of making deals, but can't rush it. Pretty generic topics. If I had to guess, a lefty pitcher not named Sale is getting moved this week.
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) No, if it is was a sure thing they would pan out it would be a one for one trade. If you add 2-3 everyday players and a pitcher with the upside to match the guy you are giving up the gamble you are taking is that guy will never live up to those expectations, hopefully the contributions you are getting from those 2-3 players in 150+ games outweigh the step back you take in the 33 games that you replace that ace. The White Sox are in danger of becoming what the Mariners have been, you have one really great SP, one really good position players and not much support beyond that. I am not trying to advocate that he be traded no matter what, but if there is an offer that can correct a team in a hurry its needs to be considered. One great pitcher does not a world series team make, other wise Kershaw and King Felix would be dueling it out every year. Well said. Obviously they would have to be overwhelmed to move Sale now, but if they got a pitcher with ace upside, and drafted another one in June, while getting 2-3 offensive players in the process, it wouldn't be a dumb move.
  15. That Carlos Perez catcher just makes way too much sense unless they trade for somebody before Thursday.
  16. I'm using this as a catch all- Tekotte and McDade have been outrighted to AAA. 40-man at 38, including Belisario. Room for a Rule 5.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) The offer the ends up getting Price won't be enough to make us happy about Sale. Age and contract add much more value to Sale. There's no way the M's will give up enough for Sale when they can give up less for Price. Plus, come on. If you don't hold on to 24 year old stars signed affordably through their age 30 seasons as building blocks, what are you doing? What is the plan there? If the Sox could get multiple pieces- a future potential ace, and a couple premium bats, why not? You keep Santiago, Quintana, and maybe Taijuan Walker, plus they can draft a big arm next June if they want. I'm not saying "time to trade Chris Sale", but they shouldn't be telling teams "don't even ask".
  18. Jon Morosi is saying the Mariners think they have the pieces to get David Price. The Sox have to listen on Chris Sale. They'd be nuts not to.
  19. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Ugh, so many bad memories of getting trade raped by Cashman Good money to get off the books. Maybe take a couple low level prospects and a catcher--I know Romine is a name that has bounced around forever, but who knows.
  20. Finally, I agree with Phil Rogers. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/408999694371549184 Alexei makes a lot of sense for the Yankees. But watch them get Brandon Phillips.
  21. That was quick. Hey, the Mariners have to overpay to get what they want. I actually hope it works out for them.
  22. Ok, let's crank up the Chris Sale rumors.
  23. Cano should just take the 7/175 from the Yankees. But whatever. Wherever he ends up, I hope it's in the next 3-4 days. That would make the trade market more clear going into next week.
