Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) Averaging 7.3 IP in that era wasn't a big deal. There wasn't the 6/7/8/9 bullpen set up like we see today. Teams had closers, and maybe a set up man. He led the league once in IP, and was in the top 3 a few other times. The thing is averaging a bunch of innings doesn't make you a HOFer, at least not in my book. I suppose we could find out what the average IP start was from 1979-1992, but the question was--who else during that time matched his durability? Nobody. And I'm not saying people are wrong for not thinking he's a Hall of Famer, but the dismissal of him being a slightly better than average pitcher is garbage.

Jack Morris doesn't get enough credit for the innings he logged. Naysayers want to dismiss him as some league average starter, which is crazy. Show me the other pitchers during 1979-1992 that averaged 7.28 innings per start...while averaging 241 innings a year. He was unique to his era. When I take into consideration innings pitched, winning teams and being the ace on those teams, and the time frame in which he pitched, the Hall wouldn't be lesser with him in it.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
Just seeing the names Axelrod, Flowers, and Gimenez has been puke-worthy. Hopefully Hahn gets some s*** done over the next ten days. The Charlotte roster is shaping up nicely, but that offense is still looking like garbage.

White Sox Re-Sign Tyler Flowers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) @scottmerkin: White Sox also have re-signed Hector Gimenez to a Minor League deal Watch them invite Axelrod to camp.

Axelrod non-tendered.

White Sox Re-Sign Tyler Flowers
Has anything changed? He could still be traded. The Sox could still sign or trade for another catcher as a #1 or platoon.
-
Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
Don't the Sox have to announce tendering contracts to Beckham, De Aza, and Viciedo? Maybe somebody is getting traded in the next 5 hours.

Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
I used to be on the Jack Morris side, and I'm not against him getting in. But I understand how the modern stats can decrease his value. It was easier to just say he won 250+ games, averaged 240+ innings for 14 years, 175 complete games, and won championships with three different teams, including winning one of the most famous Game 7's. If Morris got in eventually, and was considered the worst starting pitcher in the Hall---well somebody has to be the worst, and he wouldn't be a bad one. On Mattingly, he was awesome, and it was a cool experience to watch him play at his peak at Comiskey Park. To me, he's a lot like Kirby Puckett, but Mattingly won an MVP. In his first year of eligibility, he got 28.2%. So he had support to begin with, but then voters just gave up on him. He was a Hall of Fame talent that got hurt too soon.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 2, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Had someome purpose that we trade for Arencibia.....but also giving up Gordon and Flowers.... I purposely propose we just see what happens the rest of the day, and then talk about it.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz When it comes to trades actually getting done, no news is good news. I hope it stays quiet for another week and they get a few things done in Orlando.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Why? So he can be there just to ensure the team stays mediocre? This team does not need to be investing $ in any player that isn't apart of the future. Plus the current lineup is already over capacity with guys who can't keep their OBP above .320. It depends on the rest of the roster, but I'd rather take a chance on Granderson to have a couple good years than watch De Aza or Viciedo play. This team needs a personality change too. And it wouldn't hurt to bring in a guy like Granderson for the right price. He can bring some value other than just his numbers. But again, we'll know soon enough where he's going. My guess is somebody will offer him 3 guaranteed years in the 40-45 range, and he'll take it. I don't want that team to be the Sox.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
If they got Granderson for 2 years at 26 mil, I'd be happy with that. Two years while the Sox are still trying to develop some guys, I'd be ok with. Three years is where I don't want him--especially at 12+ mil. I bet he signs somewhere in the next two weeks, so we'll know soon enough.

Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 04:52 AM) You would vote in 2 admitted cheaters but leave Edgar out? It's a hell of a ballot tho. If Morris gets in than Mussina does too. I would go: Thomas, Maddux, Biggio, Glavine. And making cases for Piazza, Trammell and Mussina. And maybe Clemens based on his numbers before the steriods in which he dominated from'84 to '93 Actually Mcgriff should be considered 493 HR ain't no cakewalk. I could probably be swayed on Edgar, but I'm not sure he had enough great seasons as just a DH. But I'm not voting, so if 75% of the people do vote him in, then good for him. To me, McGriff is Willie McCovey, but didn't get to 500 home runs because of the 1994-1995 strike. He missed 60-65 games where he certainly would have hit 7 more homers. Plus, I think he was clean in a dirty era.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) If you look around, there's virtually no one who is not including Thomas on their actual or hypothetical ballots If I could give Frank any advice over the next 5 weeks--don't talk.

Frank Thomas Is a Hall of Famer
If I could vote for 16 players: Bagwell, Biggio, Bonds, Clemens, Glavine, Kent, Maddux, Mattingly, McGriff, Morris, Mussina, Piazza, Raines, Schilling, Thomas, Trammell I'm easy, but I wouldn't vote for Edgar Martinez, Larry Walker, Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, or the rest.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) I'd take him for like 2-3 years for $15-20M. But with the contract McCann got, it wouldn't shock me to see Navarro get $10M a year from someone. For a guy that has played 225 games over the last four seasons, I can't see him getting more than 2 years/12 mil. Something like that.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
I think I heard Dan Hayes mention Navarro over the weekend as a possibility. Maybe that was out of some information given to him.

Has Hahn waited too long to act or letting the market
The offseason moves started June, 2013 and they'll finish February, 2015. This is a slow burn to get back to respectability. But if you're really looking at 2014, give it to December 12. See what we have at the end of the Winter Meetings.

Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
I never thought Alexei was going to be easy to move. Beckham on the other hand...some team will take his defense and think they can get his bat right. Should be interesting for the Sox the next few weeks. I can't remember this much activity this early in the offseason.
