If he's a right-handed version of a younger, healthier Kendrys Morales, I'd take that. Abreu looks like he was fat a couple years ago. Looks slimmer in the WBC clips I've seen.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) While the reports that keep coming out are sounding better and better for the Sox, I still would not be the least bit surprised to see him sign with the Red Sox or Rangers. They both just like to throw around money too much. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some random team sign him from out of the blue kind of how Cespedes ended up with the A's when nobody felt they were serious contenders. At this point, it's just a good thing to know there's a legit shot to get this guy. But we still don't know if he's any good at Major League Baseball.

Wow, that escalated quickly. Bye, Paulie.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) Why do you say that? He can very easily sign with the White Sox. Astros do have Singleton on the way , so I honestly don't know why they're going after him. Olney just tweeted that the Red Sox don't expect to sign him and that the Astros and White Sox are seen as the front runners Just not getting my hopes up. But if the Sox do sign him, I hope he's a force. The Sox need some relevant offensive players in the game.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) That doesn't mean that MLB.com is on the ruse, it just means multiple people "in the industry" may be. We'll see. I guess it's a good thing this gets sorted out before Konerko makes his big decision.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Everyone is saying the magic number is 70, which is probably why the Rangers will swoop in and offer 6 yrs/$75M. I don't believe that he has really trimmed his list down to 3 teams already, I think that's just hot air to get one of the other teams to scramble and offer more. Seems pretty legit when they allow mlb.com to put out a story that says multiple industry sources say he's down to three teams. He'll be an Astro.

What should the Sox do differently to prepare for 2014?
flavum replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In a nutshell... Don't do anything dumb in an effort to win 79 games in 2014. -
Less rain outs now. That's for sure.

We need one of the insiders to find out how good it could have been if Crain pitched the last two months. Curious what was on the table.

The "atrocious against lefties" thing scares me. Going into his Age 29 season. I don't know. I'd probably be happy if they signed him, but my gut is telling me this isn't the time to hand out 4-year contracts unless they land Abreu or break the bank for McCann--which is highly unlikely.

I wasn't impressed with the Cubs film. The music was over-the-top and too loud, and it could have been cut by 20 minutes. And get Dusty Baker a new chair.

I still view Zapata (or is it Adolfo) as a lottery ticket. He just turned 17. He shouldn't even be on Kannapolis until 2016, so I kind of just want to forget about him for a couple years and hope there's a baseball player there, come 2016. Hawkins was moved up too soon, but his problem may just be he doesn't have the talent to hit professional curve balls.

Well, the 2006 World Series was terrible, so hopefully a Tigers-Cardinals series this year would be better. Anybody but the Red Sox.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Have you never watched MLB playoffs before? It's worse now.

QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 01:37 AM) I despise Cardinals fans. They all act like they've never won anything before. I have seen this quote twice on my facebook regarding the series win "words cannot describe how I feel right now" Jesus, act like you've been there before. If the White Sox won a single playoff series this year, I'd have been pretty happy...but words would have described it. Speaking of "act like you've been there before"...how about Adam Wainwright? He's been on the mound to end a World Series before. It was a 6-1 ballgame. He knew they were going to win the game. Yes, it was a Game 5, but if the Cardinals lose the NLCS, they still only won the NL Central. It's not like they won something new last night. So Adam, why are you acting like you just won another World Series....or even a pennant? Yes, a couple fist pumps and high fives all around. But it was overboard for that team. And while I'm complaining...another trend I've seen this postseason...when you lose the series, grab your stuff and head to the clubhouse. These losing players sitting in the dugout watching the other team celebrate makes me think they just want to "show how much they care", when they really just want face time on TV. You lost, Jason Grilli. Leave the dugout.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 07:03 AM) Post your predictions for the playoffs here. Poster with the closest picks wins 2 49ers tickets and a fixed up '69 Chevelle. Cardinals over Pirates in 5 Dodgers over Braves in 4 Red Sox over Rays in 4 Tigers over A's in 5 Dodgers over Cards in 6 Tigers over Red Sox in 7 Dodgers over Tigers in 5 If the Tigers win tonight....wow.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 08:24 AM) Me too. Granderson is a nice player but it would be a mistake if he is our "big splash". He's gonna want a lot of money and is already 32. I wouldn't want Granderson for more than two guaranteed years, but I'll take him over De Aza any day of the week. De Aza is a 4th outfielder for an NL team. He can pinch hit, fill in for a regular on the DL, pinch run for slow guys. When you ask De Aza to start 150 games, he'll be part of the problem. Not part of the solution.
