I think it's also fair to say there are no truly awful American League teams this year. Even the Twins have had stretches of playing pretty good. The Mariners are gaining on .500. The Indians had a good first half. The Red Sox and Blue Jays are under .500, but have had injury problems. It's tough to beat anyone in the AL on any given day, so it's just a matter of playing good baseball day in and day out, and letting the talent win out in the end.

Look at Trayce makin' it look easy.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Nightmare for a manager. Win or lose, your team is at a disadvantage for a few days after.

Pirates and Cardinals tied in the 19th inning. Both teams scored in the 17th. Edit: Alvarez homer in the top of the 19th. 4-3 Bucs.

7/23 - 10/3- to win 89 games vs Min 2-1 (3-0) +1 at Tex 1-2 (2-1) +2 at Min 2-1 (2-1) +2 vs LAA 2-1 (2-1) +2 vs KC 2-1 (1-2) +1 vs Oak 2-1 (2-1) +1 at Tor 2-2 (3-1) +2 at KC 2-1 (0-3) E vs NY 2-1 vs Sea 2-1 at Bal 2-2 at Det 1-2 vs Min 2-1 vs KC 2-1 vs Det 2-2 at Min 2-1 at KC 2-1 at LAA 1-2 vs Cle 2-1 vs TB 2-2 at Cle 2-1 39-28 Hard to believe the Sox are still playing .600 ball since being swept in Detroit. Let's just get back on track this week. No worse than 4-2, and then a split in Baltimore wouldn't be so bad. Orioles are 50-0 when leading after 7 innings. Gotta jump on their starters early.

Wild Card: TB 67-54 Bal 66-55 - Oak 65-55 0.5 Det 64-57 2.0 LAA 62-60 4.5 Sox are a half game behind the second wild card. Lame.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) Quite a treat to see Youk and the Big Un reach that milestone on the same days Not really. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Agreed. Yet the O's do us a huge favor by sweeping the p**** cats. We could have been in 2nd place right now, but instead the Sox are still in the driver's seat. Tigers won Friday.
-
Looks the Rays are going into Anaheim and sweeping them 4 straight. As mad as I am right now about the Sox, I wouldn't want to be in the Angels shoes.

5-0. Must be nice.
-
4-0 Tigers. Good. Let the Sox see that before they even take the field.
-
Sox face Jason Vargas on Friday. He's riding a streak of 10 quality starts, with a 1.95 ERA. And Peavy gets to face him. Yay! Hopefully Felix doesn't get moved up to Sunday and we'll miss altogether.
-
Biggest game of the year so far. Seriously, you can't get swept in KC with Sale and Peavy on the mound, and have that momentum going into the Yankees series where things can start to spiral. f***ing win.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 07:06 AM) A soft schedule??? Sure in september, but the next 13 games starting Monday are 3 Yankess at home 3 Texas at home 4 At Baltimore and 3 at Detroit. How is that soft??? I consider soft Minny, Cubs, Astros etc. How do those 4 teams fit into the category of SOFT?????? They're done with Texas. Last 45 games: 9 KC 6 Min 6 Cle 3 Sea That's 24 of 45 games against teams under .500. That should be 16-8 right there. I'll be nice, and say 15-9. 3 at home vs Yankees. At home, go 2-1. (17-10) 4 at Baltimore. Go 2-2 (19-12) 4 at home vs Rays. Go 2-2. (21-14) 3 at Anaheim. Win 1. (22-16) 7 head-to-head vs Tigers. Go 3-4, minimum. (25-20) If the Sox don't get to 90 with their schedule, they blew it.

Through 119 games (since): Sox 65-54 TB 65-54 (1-0) Bal 64-55 (1-0) Det 64-55 (0-1) Oak 64-55 LAA 62-57 (0-2) Angels are really fading. If it takes 89 wins for the second wild card, they have to go 27-14. And coming into this series with KC, the Sox had 45 games left. If the Sox can't go 25-20 the final 45 for 90 wins against a soft schedule, then they just aren't good enough. And now it's 25-18.
-
Anyone else worried this is the beginning (last night) of the 7-game losing streak that will eventually knock us out?
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) I agree, we're in first place we have to be going for the division. Obviously. But six weeks from now, we may wish the Tigers beat the Orioles. I guess what I'm trying to say...scoreboard watching is kinda pointless and the Sox just need to get to 91 wins and let the cards fall playoff-wise.
-
Tigers lose to the Orioles. That's a good thing, right?
-
QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) I'm feeling a good effort from JFP tonight. But will that be enough?
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Actually the Sox will probably lose the division in the end because they can't beat the Royals. I was with you until the last word. I was thinking a large cat animal.
-
And we'll get Chen 2 more times in September. Let's start beating this guy starting tonight. 8-4 from now until the Tigers series.
-
Not thrilled with Sale pitching on 4 days rest last night, and now he will again against the Yankees. If they don't skip anyone the rest of the season, Sale will pitch the first postseason game/Game 163, which is good. But if they injected a 6th starter a few more times, they could have given him more rest between starts (along with everyone else), AND started him first in the playoffs. And the current rotation doesn't have Peavy facing the Tigers at all OR the Yankees OR the Angels. Peavy-- at KC, vs Sea, at Bal, vs Min, vs KC, at Min, at KC, vs Cle, vs TB The Sox hitters better start scoring for him. And in case you're wondering, the Tigers series are set up this way now: At Detroit: Floyd, Liriano, Sale At Home: Quintana, Floyd, Liriano, Sale

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 03:09 AM) Big days for Trayce and Courtney as well. Great to see these guys handling promotions well. Walk off game-winning hits for Hawkins back-to-back games. Audio for both here: http://soundcloud.com/jfeld127/08-17-hawki...-hawkins-gw-hit And maybe Thompson has turned the corner with his hitting and the K's will come down a lot from where they were. Nice to have some players in the minors doing well.
