And we'll get Chen 2 more times in September. Let's start beating this guy starting tonight. 8-4 from now until the Tigers series.

Coop: Sox going back to five man rotation
Not thrilled with Sale pitching on 4 days rest last night, and now he will again against the Yankees. If they don't skip anyone the rest of the season, Sale will pitch the first postseason game/Game 163, which is good. But if they injected a 6th starter a few more times, they could have given him more rest between starts (along with everyone else), AND started him first in the playoffs. And the current rotation doesn't have Peavy facing the Tigers at all OR the Yankees OR the Angels. Peavy-- at KC, vs Sea, at Bal, vs Min, vs KC, at Min, at KC, vs Cle, vs TB The Sox hitters better start scoring for him. And in case you're wondering, the Tigers series are set up this way now: At Detroit: Floyd, Liriano, Sale At Home: Quintana, Floyd, Liriano, Sale

8/17 Games
QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 03:09 AM) Big days for Trayce and Courtney as well. Great to see these guys handling promotions well. Walk off game-winning hits for Hawkins back-to-back games. Audio for both here: http://soundcloud.com/jfeld127/08-17-hawki...-hawkins-gw-hit And maybe Thompson has turned the corner with his hitting and the K's will come down a lot from where they were. Nice to have some players in the minors doing well.

This isn't a knock on Sale, but I wish they used a 6th starter tonight and had Sale and Peavy the other two games.

Konerko reinstated, Santiago recalled
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) I hope this means a 6-man rotation. Or just throw Phil back in and give us a 7-man rotation. LOL, just kidding. I have to think there will be some adjustment made since Peavy isn't lined up to face the Tigers in either series. I'm pretty surprised Sale and Peavy are pitching on 4 days rest this weekend after their last outings.

The Wild Card Division
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Who should the Sox be rooting for, Tampa or Anaheim this weekend? I'm going to say TB. I just don't want to have to deal with Weaver, Trout, and Pujols in October.

Barnum hasn't played in a while. I would assume it's the same shoulder injury, and if it's hurting him again, I'm guessing they'll just shut him down.

September Call-Ups Discussion
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) The expanded roster rule is one of the dumbest rules in all of sports. Let's play by one set of roster rules for 80% of the season, but then when it gets to crunch time, let's just change it all up and let teams add extra players. /rant Couldn't agree more. Especially with the new wild card, there are more teams playing for something. They need to max it out at 30 and you have to submit a 25-man roster before the game starts with no more than 8 in the bullpen.

YOUR FIRST PLACE CHICAGO WHITE SOX
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Anything can happen, but the pitching matchups are definitely in DET's favor this weekend too. Hunter vs Verlander TBA vs Porcello Chen vs. Cy Fister (Chen has been their pitcher this year though, 3.70 ERA) Never know...by the last 7 days of the season, we may look back and wish the Tigers swept them. For now, Go O's.

2012 AL Pennant Chase
QUOTE (Wagz @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) That would be a great way for the playoff system to work but why stop there. the 1 seeds get a buy and throw another wild card team in there. Cant change the playoff system in baseball enough. Right now a third of the baseball teams from each league get into the playoffs. Never really thought of it that way but if your in the top half of your league (NL/AL) you have a really good shot at making the playoffs. Lets hope the sox are one of those 5 teams this year. I think 5 of 15 is a really good system. You don't want too many teams qualifying for postseason. It's better to have more teams chasing the last spot than just letting them in. If it's 6 or 8 per league, it's almost every over-.500 team. That's too many, and I don't think MLB or the players even want to go there, because they don't want byes and they don't want to shorten the regular season.

I never realized something about the early 90s Sox
QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) It would have been nice if there was an Wild Card back then. And with the 1990 team, they won 94 games and had the second best record in the AL with, for all intents and purposes, a balanced schedule--13 vs West teams, 12 vs East teams. They lose the division by 9 games to the roided A's, and the Red Sox go to the playoffs with 88 wins. Oh yeah, that system was fair.

2012 AL Pennant Chase
QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) What are the chances the Sox and Tigers end up in another game 163, the loser of which then winds up tied with another team for the second wildcard slot forcing a playoff for that position, only to be followed by the one game wildcard playoff, followed by the regular postseason? A lot can happen seven weeks from now. There could be teams playing 3 days in a row in different cities, and have to use their 5th starters in the playoffs unless they go short rest for somebody. I like that the non-division winners have a tougher road to the championship, although I'd rather they get rid of divisions and have the 4th and 5th best teams play to get in.

2012 AL Pennant Chase
Tigers are now home 15 of the next 18 games, where they are very good. If the Sox can maintain a lead in the next 3 weeks, I'll take it.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) I'm surprised Septimo is still up and not Santiago. Santiago is a starter now. They need insurance in case of injury, so they need to keep him stretched out.
