I watch a lot of NFL, yet every free agency period I'm always shocked by how many good defensive players I have never heard of.
-
Well I don't even know how to skate that probably automatically qualifies me as a bandwagoner anyway. In the 90s I followed and rooted for the Hawks, but I was a way, way bigger Bulls fan, probably caused I played basketball like every day and never even laced up a skate. In the early 2000s, I was in Champaign and both teams sucked, so I pretty much ignored both Chicago winter sports. I paid a little more attention again when Toews & Kane showed up. Then in the summer of 08 my buddy convinced me to buy into the hype and get in on season tickets. (at $15/ticket, that was nice). Now 8 years later, I've probably been to like 150 games and only watch the NHL over the Bulls/NBA. Probably a very early bandwagoner that became a fully converted hockey fan.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) The small conferences need conference tournaments to generate revenue. Nobody will go or watch on TV if an autobid isn't on the line, so that is never going to change. But I thought college sports were about the student athletes, not the money? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) It will also greatly reduce the importance of the conference tournaments, and it will take away at large bids. As it should, the regular season should be more important than the conference tournaments. At least some conferences give the top teams home court now so they have some kind of advantage. The at-large bids wouldn't change, there would be the same amount. It would just make the pool of auto bid teams stronger, especially the ones at the bottom of the bracket. -

As much fun as the conference tourneys can be, I really think they should start giving the auto bid to the regular season champion. You dominate the league for 3 months, then it's all for nothing. Plus, that will increase the odds of a 16 seed finally beating a 1. The more upsets that happen in these tourneys, it weakens all of the teams in the main bracket. -

Very interested to see what Lovie would be getting paid. His salary in the pros was $5 million, that would leave him 3rd in the B1G behind Harbaugh and Meyer. No way Illinois pays him that much, but how much of a pay cut would he take? -

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 07:54 PM) What are you talking about? I said Lovie isn't a good coach. SoxPride said he just needs a good OC. Well, he had a good one last season in Tampa and his record was still bad. He was average to bad in the NFL. Yeah, anyone would be an upgrade over Cubit. Average to bad also describes every single QB who ever played for him the NFL. -

Lovie the football coach would be a great hire. But how well could he recruit? That would be my concern, not that Illinois kills it on the recruiting trail now. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 11:04 AM) Illinois fires it's coach at almost the worst possible time. When is the last time Illinois did something at the right time or the right way? Nice to see the new AD not messing around though, he inherited quite the mess. -

As a neutral fan, that was a fun game to watch this morning. The more these top 3 teams keep puttering around, I keep expecting Man City to make a move to the top. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) They also did Karaoke per another tweet from Gonzalez. In america I think making fun of Asian people is more acceptable for some odd reason. I dont get it. Just look at the Oscars. The big point of discussion was fighting racism, yet there was a blatant Asian joke that only Jeremy Lin was mad about. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) The problem is the Bears have very little leverage. Martellus has been known to be somewhat disruptive pretty much everywhere he has been, marches to his own beat, wants out, and is in the last year of his deal. In a vacuum a 4th would be nice, but I really would be surprised if they were able to get that. Given all of that, it sounds more likely that he is just straight released.

Wow, that's crazy. I remember when they were tearing up all the land by me right outside the hotel he had stayed it recently, thinking he buried the knife out in Chicago instead. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) That third line is pretty good. And that third line lets you have the best 4th line in hockey that dominated in the playoffs last year. Just a stacked 12-man forward crew.

QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) He was not liked by the front office at all. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) So you are on the Wentz train now too huh? He really seems like the perfect profile of a guy being created into this power house though the draft process but not in reality. He has the measurables but I always am skeptical when someone rises this fast out of nowhere. But hell I am totally in agreement of the Bears taking a QB anywhere in this draft that they like. Joe Flacco?

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Which is kind of funny, because the White Sox aren't likely to win it all with or without Sale, but a loss like Toews or Kane could derail the Blackhawks "dynasty" The odds of a significant injury to Sale's left arm are far greater than a significant injury to one of the Blackhawks, especially when the World Cup is held 7 months before the playoffs start. Any injury risk is mitigated by the fun and intensity of the hockey tournaments. The players really care about winning and it shows, which makes it so entertaining. Whereas the World Baseball Classic seems like a farce from day one.

Personally I love to watch the Hawks play in the Olympics/World Cup, but I will be furious if Chris Sale ever throws a single pitch in a World Baseball Classic.
