QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) $161 million 7 years Oh my goodness. That is not gonna end well.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) From all reports of those close to the team, Minnie's death severely affected Alexei in a way they saw previously with his brother in law. For some, death affects you differently. It's no reason to minimize someone with those stupid pet analogies just because you like a baseball team. Then maybe he should have asked for some time off? It's very sorry to hear if the death really affected him, but it shouldn't justify him performing at a sub-par level for 6 months, especially given the salary he is earning.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) http://m.mlb.com/cws/video/v3573498/ramire...o-break-the-tie His greatest moment with the Sox. I have a framed, autographed picture of this moment hanging on my wall. Picture was taken just after he dropped the bat when he has his hands up in the air. :notworthy

Keep Forgetting about Carson Fulmer
LittleHurt05 replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's 36 year old and has had so many injuries, but after tomorrow night, nobody will forget about Carson Palmer. Wait, you said Fulmer? -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) It was silly that McDonough felt he had to answer for Kane. His response was perfect. "I wouldn’t call it vindication," McDonough said. "I’m just very happy for him. I’m glad he got off to such a great start and he’s continued to do that and the focus staying on hockey. It tells you how committed he is. But no I don’t think there’s any sense of vindication at all, he’s just reached another level of his career." I'm more and more convinced that the reason Kane spoke at the preseason camp in South Bend was more of a form of punishment from the Hawks, and that quote convinces me more. Same thing happened when Corey sprained his ankle drunk at the concert, he immediately had to answer for it. I've always heard how big of an asshole McDonough is, but that's why he's good at his job.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) Apparently the NHL and the Yotes tried to make him quick the ASG. What f***ing assholes. And now Scott is being treated like the asshole when the fans and players all supported it. He wouldn't quit, now he's been traded and been demoted to the AHL, so he's no longer eligible. Sucks, it's a meaningless game solely hosted for entertainment, let's have some fun once in a while.

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) At Soxfest during the Q & A session with RH, will the first question be "why didn't we sign Cespedes" or _________ "I was told there would be punch and pie"

John Scott traded to Montreal. The world anxiously waits to find out if he can still captain the Pacific team in the AS game.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) Fair point...I guess to put it better would be more like every other employer. The condition you identified is present in pretty much every workplace in America. The under/over performing employees part is. I was trying to refer to how salaries and employer are so controlled for the first 6 years of a players' contract. The players have little room to negotiate, but neither do the teams. And a player is not allowed to go find someone else to work with, they have to accept it and like it. (Yes, there are independent leagues and Japan I guess, but those aren't comparable)

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) I want to go to a traditional college stadium next year. I was thinking LSU, Penn St, Ohio St, Alabama, Auburn, or Ole Miss. What are the best ones you all have been to? Which do you recommend? Note: I've already done USC, Notre Dame, Clemson, Tennessee and Michigan. SEC! SEC! SEC! -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) More like capitalism. If it was like capitalism, Sale & Quintana could leave to the highest bidder instead of being under Sox control for 6 years.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) Welcome to the arbitration process. For all the overpaid Avi Garcias, there are countless underpaid Sales & Quintanas. Baseball.

At this rate, Q is gonna pass Bowman in 5 years, not 10. Tomorrow night already feels like such a trap game though.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Thanks for the year of Grand Slams Alexei. That Monday afternoon makeup grand slam vs. Detroit to clinch the Blackout game was epic.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) I actually recall some services raising prices due to how must gasoline cost at one time -- always quick to raise a price, very slow to lower. We still pay fuel surcharges to a majority of our business vendors.

Looking forward to hearing a fresh new voice during games. Good luck to Jason!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:15 PM) Hossa with 4 points over the last 1 and 2/3 games. Before he scored a few days back, his shooting percentage had dropped to 4.3, it was not gonna stay that low. Last year was his career full season low at 8.9.

The Rams are playing at least 3 seasons in the Coliseum? That should go well. Looking at that Inglewood stadium, wow does that look massive. Is now the time to buy cheap property by the Forum? I went to Hollywood Park around 5 years, the neighborhood did not seem to have much going for it.

WI bans certain chants at HS sports events

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Funniest thing I've ever heard a student section do. This was at MSU hockey games: Students (at approx. 1:05 left in a period): Hey, Jerry, how much time? PA Announcer (presumably named Jerry): One minute, one minute remaining in the period Students: Thank you. That sounds more awful than what's done at Bears game PA: "There's a timeout" Fans: "Where" PA: "On the field" Fans: "OHHHHH" -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) How can Montreal be at 115.8% capacity for road games? The Winter Classic in Boston was played at the football stadium. So they counted the larger attendance but didn't adjust the capacity, same with Boston's home attendance.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) So stupid. If your pathetic fans can't fill the arena, why not sell the seats? Surprisingly they are at 98.6% capacity this year, so their fans actually have been showing up. Side note, the Blackhawks are at 110.3% capacity. They sell the s*** out of standing room only. http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) In a more strongly regulated league like the NFL, this would never fly. The NHL, however, is a lot of silly antics. I remember the same thing happening during Seahawks/49ers playoff games a few years back, it's happened in the NFL too. What can the league really do? I'm sure the teams' front office gets the required amount of tickets.
