  1. Seems like a fair hire. Made his way up the ladder in a successful organization. I like that he's younger. Will he be successful? Who the f*** knows, time will tell.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) This would be nice. I am really afraid the Bears are going to come out of left field with some crazy hire of every one we would least expect for both GM and coach. LOL They did that two years ago and look where we are now.
  3. And my generation has officially become those old people that complain how much harder they had it. My Facebook feed is filled with "Schools never closed when we were young, these kids are so spoiled!"
  4. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) There is no defending what happened today. It's cowardly, and it's on the same page as Nazism in the Big Book of S--t. That said, after already having their office firebombed in response to publishing content they knew damn well would offend and likely draw a reaction from the especially strict minority in the crowd, and continuing to troll them as recently as one hour before the attack, well, if someone decides that they want to play a game of chicken with an oncoming freight train and loses- sympathy is one of the last things I'd feel (and even then, most of it would be for the family and for the engineer in the cabin that was powerless to stop it and had to watch it from the best seat in the house). The victims here are the other 99.9% of the world's Muslim population who have already been lumped in with these scum outliers for a while now, and for anyone fortunate enough to live in the free world. Don't forget about the police officers that lost their lives trying to save him too. Freedom of speech is great, the terrorists are awful, awful people, but I still just have a hard time justifying the point in publishing these cartoons. Sitting in your cozy Paris office thinking you are invincible and can go toe-to-toe with the terrorists, well they won and 11 others are gone. There are ways to fight terrorism, but taunting them by blaspheming their god in a way that also offends some peaceful Muslims doesn't seem the way to go about it.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 06:03 AM) McDowell, Fernandez, Alvarez, Bere. Such a fun rotation. Hell yeah, those were some good times. It felt like they could have done so much more. Damn you 1994 strike!
  6. So just maybe the Illini don't suck at basketball?? Woohoo!
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) John McDonald retired. Only noteworthy because there are now only 20 players left from the 1900's still playing in MLB. Even more noteworthy, he was once traded for himself.
  8. It's funny seeing all these old box scores just from 15-20 years ago where both starters are going 130-140 pitches, no big deal.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Jameis Winston to enter NFL Draft. No surprise there. The odds of him staying eligible for the entire 2015 season were slim to none. On a side note, this whole graduate transfer thing is becoming a thing. It's added a bit of a free agency aspect to NCAA football. I like it.
  10. Yakutsk, Russia laughs at your "cold" temperatures. http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/RSXX0122:1:RS
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 07:32 AM) Hoffman should eventually get in, but no to Wagner and Edmonds. Then in 2 years Pudge has a PED cloud similar to Piazza, Manny has his own issues and Posada is not close to being a HoFer. Vladdy should be the only 1st timer that year. I'm not so sure about that. I feel like with the younger voter crowd, a large number of saves doesn't guarantee anything.
  12. In 5 starts and one relief appearance in the last two seasons, Varlamov has a 0.93 GAA with a .978 save % against the Hawks.
  13. I will always remember this Pedro game. He mowed down the tough Sox lineup, but Sirotka hung with him, only to be done in by a Valentin error. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BO...200007230.shtml
  14. Varlamov is to the Blackhawks what Bruce Chen is to the White Sox. 54 save shutout, unbelievable.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) So the older part of my house as well as some other upstairs areas tend to not heat well when it gets arctic around here. The first floor has radiant heat and the top floor has its own air handler with a coil. I finally had a guy over to check if we could add some vents or something to the rooms as well as get my heated floors in the basement functioning. Of course it turns out the guy who installed the air handlers etc previously when he renovated the house did it in such a backwards way that there is really nothing to do but start from scratch. On top of that my boiler is 22 years old and is on its last legs in theory. Just another thing this do it yourself guy did that I have to fix. Luckily the electric is fine because the plumbing, insulation, and now HVAC are all f***ed up. f***ing old houses man, f*** this weather. Isn't home ownership f***ing great?
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) What are people's beef with Mark Cuban? Hoosier
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) Pretty sure he was in one of the steroid reports. He lost like 30 pounds in the offseason right before testing began.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Sounds like a decent amount of voters didn't vote for the sure fire guys so that they could vote for fringe guys, and still make the 10 vote limit. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) You can say that, but with so many ballots made public before other voters had to mail their own, there were probably a lot of strategy votes. Meaning, Randy and Pedro are getting in no matter what, I'll vote for Jeff Kent or Carlos Delgado to help their 5% case. I get that, and that's more acceptable than the anti 1st ballot old-timers. It just doesn't seem to right to have nearly 1 on 10 ballots saying that Pedro Martinez is not a Hall of Famer.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:07 PM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 3m3 minutes ago Randy Johnson gets in at 97.1 percent. Pedro Martinez at 91.1 percent. John Smoltz at 82.9 percent and Craig Biggio at 82.7 percent. Mike Piazza was at 69.9 percent. He'll be in next year. Jeff Bagwell at 55.7 percent and Tim Raines at 55 percent. 8.9 % of the voters should lose their voting privileges forever.
  20. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:47 AM) They aren't on the hook for the cash though. The Dodgers are only paying $10M if he is a Marlin. If the Marlins trade him somewhere, then that new team pays the $10M, unless the Marlins send some money over, obviously. Dodgers made a smart move knowing they would pretty much never have to pay that $10M. This article from Fox sports says differently. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Miami-m...an-haren-010515
  21. QUOTE (South Sider @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Kind of a head scratcher. Over .500, and in the playoffs if they were to start today. Maybe they've been tanking lately and I haven't noticed. They have had some pretty horrendous losses and losing streaks this season, offset by some untouchable hot streaks. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) The Leafs will always believe they are the best team in hockey. They already seem convinced Babcock will be their head coach next year.
  22. Bob Nightengale gets it, this sums up my thoughts completely http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...emens/21290463/
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:11 AM) I guess I've never been to one, so I wouldn't know, but I can never sleep the night before opening day, and I end up waking up about 4 hours earlier than I usually do because I am so excited and I clear my whole schedule for it. I don't do any of that for the home opener. I'll still watch it, obviously, I just don't freak out about it's arrival I guess. Do we even sell out non-opening day home openers? EDIT: I looked it up myself. I only went back to our last 3 home openers, in 2012, 2011, and 2008, and we didn't sell out any of them. One was on a Thursday vs. Rays, another on a Friday vs. Tigers, other one on a Monday vs. Twins. 2007: 38,088 (OD) 2008: 38,082 (non-OD) 2009: 37,449 (OD) 2010: 38,935 (OD) 2011: 38,579 (non-OD) 2012: 38,676 (non-OD) 2013: 39,012 (OD) 2014: 37,422 (OD) I would say there is zero attendance correlation between the home opener being Opening Day or not. The park gets packed either way (maybe not a sellout, but welcome to White Sox baseball) It's still much higher attendance than the Cubs series, which are nowhere near as exciting as they were ten years ago IMO. To each their own though.
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Well, except it's the Home Opener, not opening day, and Danks is pitching, so the excitement won't be as high. My buddies and I are doing the 7 game plan, and we have a choice for the Home Opener, or a Cubs/Sox game, and we are all taking the Cubs/Sox game. What is it, 2004? The home opener is always awesome, especially on a Friday.

    2015 TV Thread

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) The editing is poor, I dont need HUGE neon letters telling me they are now on the PATIO. They obviously spent quite a bit of time in my old hook at some of my haunts and the feedback of the groups wasnt very positive. Couldnt hold their liquor and s*** together which I believe is the reason they choose these people. They've definitely changed the format and more come to terms with it being a "fake" reality show. In the past, you rarely saw cameras, now they constantly show scenes with the cameras in full view. And with all the skeleton stuff and constant on-screen words explaining situations, they are admitting that it's not the "real world" anymore, it's just us f***ing with some unstable 20-somethings.
