  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) Contraditions aside, name any players out there who are worth say 14 million dollars a year over three, four or five years? How many more of these contracts are we going to see when after one year of the multi year deal teams are clamoring to get rid of said players? And yes, as long as teams are paying out the wazoo, I figure my team might as well get in on the fray. Now would I prefer all teams to stop this nonsense en masse? Of course. As far as Mark, if you've got to pay somebody exorbitant money, it might as well be him because I stand by my statement he's a player and he's a coach. He's a GREAT EXAMPLE for all young pitchers and might teach them a thing or two about avoiding the DL (Sale? Nate?). Anytime you can pay a coach $37 million for two seasons, you have to do it right? And teams waste too much time studying pitch counts and inning limits or talking to doctors, the key to injury prevention is listening to Mark Buehrle.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) +Dog poop, so much dog poop. Oh man. I am scared to see how much dog poop is under all that snow in my backyard. We had my wife's brother's lab for two weeks too. Haven't picked up in like two months or more?
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) I thought Shaun White got sctewed. How does US not medal in half pipe. Had he not landed so low on the last jump, I bet he medals. He blew it.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) I dont think the Bobcats are showing up to play Michigan. O-U couldn't get into Miami
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) People from US really don't have much to talk down about gay rights in Latin/South America. Gay Marriage is legal in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Mexico City. These are some of the most populous areas in the region. 3/4 are whole countries, not states like the US. How is this any different than NFL? Are they that much less accepting than Southern Baptists in NFL? Gay marriage may be legal, but there are still homophobic murders in those countries nearly every day, so I wouldn't say it's better than in the US. Just because the big cities are very free and accepting, it doesn't represent the whole culture. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/re...ic-killing-lgbt And other than Rienzo, baseball players don't come from the first three countries you mentioned. They come from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Panama, places where the culture is much less accepting.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) The rub there is that the live stuff, which is what you get online, is aired on cable channels such as NBC Sports, MSNBC, and CNBC. The Olympics are broadcast on such a limited channel that no one has ever heard of?
  7. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) It's a lot easier now. I was referring to the fact that a few days before a game I can always find a discount code or go on StubHub and find a cheaper ticket if I want to attend. In 2006 I paid full price for games months ahead of time, where either the weather sucked or it was suddenly inconvenient for me to go.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) I saw them at either Jewel or CVS. This. I bought one for a friend at Walgreens I believe, tell her to find one of those big fancy gift card kiosks at her nearest grocery store.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) US fails to make the podium in the men's snowboard halfpipe Is it bad that I'm not upset to see Shaun White fail to medal?
  10. For all the talk about a gay player supposedly affecting locker room culture in the NFL, I could actually see it being an issue in MLB. That's simply because of all the players from Latin & South America. Most of these countries are way behind the US as far as gay rights go, and there seems to be a homophobic culture in some countries. It's just something that's part of the culture they were raised and as we have seen, it's not easy to change over night. There was a major leaguer recently who wrote a gay slur on his hat in Spanish, not thinking it would be a big deal.
  11. I bought a bunch of single game tickets on the first day in 2006. Never again.
  12. A seven!!!! How does that even happen? Both US teams are sucking it up so far.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Look at any Illinois message. They are all obsessed with Bruce Weber. I agree they shouldn't be which makes it funnier. I agree that Illini fans' obsession with Weber at KSU is creepy, but to be fair, this board was similar with rooting against Ozzie in Miami. Fact is, Weber was one shot away from a championship, yet within 3 seasons he started the program's worst stretch in 30+ years. He is the reason why Illinois has missed 4 tournaments in 7 years.
  14. QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) Getting fired by Illinois might have been the best thing that's ever happened to Bruce Weber. Hiring Bruce Weber might have been the worst thing that's ever happened to Illinois.
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 05:44 AM) Shirley Temple I had no idea she was still alive
  16. Two playoff berths in 13 years from a higher payroll team in the division, gross.
  17. Don't think this is a Shuster choke job, China keeps pulling big shots out of their ass.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Look at his freaking eyes though...dude looks like he's hammered. He was probably relaxing at home on his off day drinking some scotch when he suddenly got the call and was like "Oh, s***, I'm drunk!".
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) Actually, those helmets are designed to crank. They said it on the broadcast. What do they know?
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) Brutal fall in women's snowboarding I don't think your helmet is supposed to crack.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) That skijumper guy was awesome. I had a hard time judging exactly how far each guy jumped, but with him you knew he was destroying the competition.
  22. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) I love the low walk rate which shows he throws strikes but also explains the bombs too. Just don't see that going over well at US Cellular. It does make me wonder why they signed Arroyo who also throws strikes and gives up bombs. I would have stuck with Delgado but I guess they will use Delgado as #6 starter? I suppose Arroyo is an improvement but at age 36, for how long? Costly too compared to Delgado. The same reason they traded young prospects for Trumbo and Addison Reed, they want to win now. Odds are Arroyo performs better than Delgado in 2014, that's what they care about
  23. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) That's sickening. How do they know it won't work if they don't try? It worked just fine at Mizzou. A team won their division this year after their #2 receiver publicly dropped the N-word, but a locker room couldn't handle a gay player?
