QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) I hope HaHa Clinton-Dix is available for the Bears at 14. Can't wait for the Bears meatheads to start pronouncing & spelling that name.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Yup, it's unbelievable actually. Coaches are paid so much money and there is so much at stake each season to make the playoffs, yet they just make the most simple mistakes that have such a large effect on a team's chances of winning. I realize they have a lot of different things going on in their head, maybe they should hire an assistant whose only job is late-game time/score management.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) So First Year coaches and their win differential between last year Marc Trestman -2 Mike McCoy +1 Andy Reid +9 Bruce Arians +5 Gus Bradley +2 Chip Kelley+6 Doug Marrone - no change Rob Chudzinski -1* *Fired Posted without comment. So basically Marc Trestman is an idiot for taking over a 10-win team, instead of 2 to 4 win team?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) You guys can argue it all you want, but I just about guarantee McCarthy was thinking the same thing I am. The majority of coaches in the NFL are not going to chase points with that much time left on the clock. There's a reason McCarthy is making $5 million a year as a HC and why we're sitting here arguing on a message board. Even if the majority of coaches in the NFL would have kicked the extra point, that doesn't mean it was the right decision. He makes $5 million a year because of everything else he does with the team, not because of his inability to add 26 and 2.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) That's why I said you trust your defense to hold them to a FG or less knowing you are going to get the ball back. Worst case scenario you still have the opportunity to go for two to tie at the end. If you go for two and fail and the Bears score a TD, it's basically game over and you have no options. The way the game was going, I don't think anybody in their right mind would have thought the go would go to overtime at 28-28. Not at all. There still would have been like 5 or 6 minutes left. The only difference is that you play a hurry-up offense because you know you need two scores. Drive down the field quickly and score, make them go 3 and out, then you have a chance to win the game. It's better than missing a two point conversion with 30 seconds left, then being forced to onside kick as your only hope. And it's a bit contradictory to say that no one expected the game to finish 28-28, yet you trust your defense to hold them to a FG or less.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) All coaches have their cheat sheet to tell them when or when not to go for two. He's must have said take the one. Look at it this way. There was a lot of time left in the game and neither team could really stop the other. If McCarthy went for two and failed, the score would be 28-26. Had the Bears drove down field and scored a touchdown, all of the sudden it is a two score game as the score would be 35-26 with probably not very much time left. In that situation I think it was the right call to take the point, trust your defense to hold them to no more than a field goal and keep it a one score game. IMO that's a flawed strategy though because you become so dependent on the two point conversion. Had Jeffrey made that catch and then the Bears scored, it would have been 35-27. On the Packers drive, they most likely would have tried to run out clock to not leave the Bears much time if they tie it. If you don't get the two, then suddenly you have very little time and need some luck to get the ball back. If you go for two right away and miss, then it's 35-26 and yes, it's a two score game. But then you know you need two scores and can plan accordingly and play quicker. Set your defense up for a three and out, instead of a late onside kick. It just seems to make more sense to give yourself options and know what you need to do, as opposed to depending on converting a two point conversion at the end. Not to mention, while it had become a shootout, it was the 4th quarter and they were one yard from losing by that one point.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) I still don't understand why the Bears burned a TO and didn't challenge the Jeffery near TD. The worst thing that happens is they are out of challenges. I think as long as you need a TO anyway, take a chance. If it goes your way, you get 6 and save the TO. One play no one is talking about was the lateral after the Jeffery fumble at the end of the first half. It was a forward lateral and wasn't even close. It was received 3 yards in front of where it was tossed. That gets called, it changes things up at the end of the first half. We were going back and forth on that challenge decision. Because they lost that challenge on the punt touchback, they would have been out of challenges even if it was called a touchdown. I think Trestman was worried about needing another challenge later and put faith in his offense that they could gain the one half yard, even though they had struggled with it all year. Speaking of coaching decisions, how in the hell did McCarthy not go for two in the 4th? They obviously won the game, but had it finished 28-27, he would have had a lot of explaining to do.

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) I don't know if tackle is the word, but he definitely dropped him. That was Major Wright, the other safety. They both worked hard to f*** up that play. I miss Mike Brown & Tony Parrish.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) So much could change between now and then. And really, a lot WILL change True. I also didn't take into account how many collarbones Shea McClellin will break next season.

Bears road opponents next year: Lions, Packers, Vikings, Falcons, Panthers, 49ers, Patriots, Jets. 1-7 or 2-6 on the road?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) No big surprise on either, but it did seem like Frazier had a lot of support from his players. I would have given him another year. I agree. I don't think he was the problem, but obviously that's how it goes in the NFL.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Did the Browns coach really get fired too? Yup. Apparently it's his fault that Brandon Weeden & Jason Campbell are bad at football. The last 4 coaches fired in the AFC North have all been by the Browns.

You deserve so much gratitude for using an "X" word. My mind always draws a blank.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) It's just a little weird when people set out to dissect the Sox admittedly terrible offense last year and select Adam Dunn to criticize first. While Dunn is obviously a less than perfect hitter, he was the Sox most productive hitter last year. Have you already made posts about every one of the rest of the hitters (aside from Rios)? And it's difficult to understand what is meant by "tough out" or how you're defining that. Is Alexei more of a tough out than Adam Dunn? Alexei makes outs more frequently than Dunn. Their entire careers as well as last year. That isn't some complicated advanced statistic that says that, it's on-base percentage. Is it ok if you make outs more often so long as they are "tough"? Wouldn't "ultimately makes outs less frequently" imply a "tough out"? I don't know exactly what"tough out" means either, but I would imagine that making a pitcher throw a lot of pitches makes a pitcher work more and makes it tougher to get the batter out. Only two batters in all of baseball saw more pitches than Dunn per plate appearance lay year. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/lea...e/type/expanded

Two suicide bombings in 24 hours just 400 miles from Sochi. There seem to be scares every go around, but Russia is pretty unstable, a bit worried something bad might go down.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 11:36 PM) To point 4. Are you insane. Did you watch the bears with lovie. They always were coached to pick up every lose ball. Every one...dead play or not. It was part of lovies philosophy of making sure people were always going for turnovers and going to the ball at all times. Yup. Every practice from the start of training camp under Lovie, every incomplete pass was a loose ball. If there was a ball on the ground, the defense picked it up immediately.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Quick playoff predictions: Niners over Pack Eagles over Saints Seahawks over Niners Panthers over Eagles Seahawks over Panthers Chiefs over Colts Chargers over Bengals Broncos over Chargers Chiefs over Pats Chiefs over Broncos Seahawks over Chiefs If Alex Smith can win in Indy, Foxboro, then Denver, then holy s***, mad props to him. Don't see it happening, but wow.

My thoughts that no one cares about: -Despite the result, that was a fun game to be at. Wasn't too cold, lots of excitement, and Packers fans are very friendly, albeit cheesy. And let's be honest. "Anything can happen" in the playoffs, but it wasn't gonna happen with the Bears secondary, no way they win 4 in a row. Just hurts cause it was a repeat of 2010/11 -Not to harp on one single play or blame it on Trestman, but that fumble return TD was killer, never would have happened under Lovie. Play until the whistle blows, every ball is live. It wasn't just one Bear, they were all staring at it. Had a Bear picked it up, he could have easily rumbled past midfield, maybe even a touchdown - Chris Conte sucks -Cutler, Cutler, Cutler. He missed some throws early, but overall played a pretty good game, just not enough. His record vs the Packers does suck, but exactly who can you bring in next year to beat them? I don't really trust McCown to play so well for 16 games. The Browns, Jets, Vikings, Rams, Cardinals, etc. have proven that it's not that easy to find a QB. IMO, ideally they sign him to a non-franchise level contract and draft a lower round QB they like with the intent of giving him 2-3 years as a backup. I can't argue against Cutler's flaws, but the concern is that it could take you another 10+years to find another QB in a passing driven league.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) I've liked what I have seen so far, but he is far from ready to be a playoff goalie yet. He needs more reps. In all honesty, this Crawford injury may work out great for the Hawks. It gives Raanta NHL experience, but more importantly gives Crawford well needed rest and ruined any small chance he had to make the Olympic team. Other than maybe Hossa, Corey is the one guy I didn't want to see in Sochi, because that Cup run probably took a lot out of him. I think the other guys can handle it.

Just visit Cincinnati once and tell me it's not awful

Yet it's in Cincinnati so I disagree.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) I don't have a good feeling about today's game, but I also think something completely unexpected is going to happen Maybe Jay Cutler won't throw an interception? Heading down to the game now with four layers on. Bear Down!

Ditka just said that the rest of the Packers will play worse and get injured with Rodgers back, because they will be laughing so hard at what Rodgers was about to do to the Bears defense.

Very much a Timo hater you are

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 28, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Hawks blew 2 goal lead in STL real bad goaltending tonight. Sucks to blow that game and that was quite the no call on the Toews breakaway, but what a game though.
