Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?
LittleHurt05 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) You don't need to try it a different way. I don't think you understand the cultural force that this guy is. Not to mention, he has a net worth estimated at over $500 million. People want to do business with him because they see dollar signs too. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) The tv guys alluded to that too. "Why are you smiling when it's 23-0? What is there to smile about???" Look, I think Oregon came off as entitled last night too. It wasn't a particularly proud night to be a Ducks fan...but yeah, I just thought these guys were saying some uncalled for s***... That just grinds my gears everytime I hear something like that. People smile & laugh occasionally at funerals too. They must be happy that the person's dead! -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) I've been resisting making that same claim. Thank you. See? You obviously can't get over the fact that Jay-Z makes rap music, while ignoring every other business venture he has been involved in outside of music, so I'm done with this. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) Look at Boras' client list. You really don't believe advertising agencies and major companies have heard of him? It's their business. My daughter, who is in advertising, could list all of the top Hispanic talent in America. She doesn't have to watch the novellas, hear the Tejano, to know the top people and who represents them. I'm not suggesting that Jay-Z will fail, I believe he will be successful. There are any number of successful agents. But I just don't see him knocking off Boras as the top baseball agent any time soon. And as far as taking Jay-Z's calls. Look at the top ten list and tell me which one has Jay_Z on their iPod? I believe the "doesn't know who they are" will be more mid 50 Fortune 500 executives to Jay-Z. I just don't see Denise Morrison getting excited that Jay-Z is calling her. I don't see her getting excited that Boras is calling either. Well then maybe Peter Frampton should become an agent, if music on iPods plays such a big role. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) Since we are discussing only endorsements here, what company has accused Agent B of being a pain in the ass? And again, how does Jay-Z's endorsement potential translate to getting more endorsements for his clients? Will he give his up? Will he agree to promote products with his clients? Do you want to compete with your agent for endorsements? No companies have come out publicly, but if multiple baseball teams have I would imagine he negotiates similarily with others. That style probably works well with a baseball team desperate for a player, but companies don't NEED a player to endorse their product. Jay-Z has connections with many people in the business & endorsement world through all his past dealing, that's why it can help get more endorsements. People have a history with him and more likely to want to deal with him again. Why are they competing for the same endorsements? They are completely different people in different genres. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) CEOs are not negotiating the deals, but they are approving major shifts in the brand's marketing, and a major celebrity endorsement would qualify. And between Jay-Z and Boras, Jay-Z would sell more cars. But this may be where you are confused. We are talking about Jay-Z getting endorsements for other people, not himself. Agent A has a stake in several companies offering endorsements and has also dealt with companies in obtaining his own endorsements. Agent B only has a history of negotiating and by all accounts is a major pain in the ass to deal with. I think Agent A wins in my book. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 07:30 AM) Who do you want negotiating with the CEO of Mercedes, Jay-Z or Boras? That's the endorsement world. I responded to a claim that Jay-Z would win that. I don't see it. First of all, why are CEOs negotating endorsement deals with baseball players? I doubt it ever goes up high on the food chain. Jay-Z is extremely wealthy and is in charge of several corporations. I think a CEO would have more in common with him than Scott Boras, who is just a sports agent. If the head of Mercedes is seen in public shaking Jay-Z's hand or shaking Boras's hand, which one do you think would sell more cars? -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 11:20 PM) Everybody is so worried about the rankings. How many undefeated teams do you really think will be left? It's the first week of November. Just like last year. So many teams were gonna end up undefeated, except for Notre Dame who everyone was convinced would lose a game. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2013 -> 06:52 AM) Really, with what industry? Look at pictures of the Fortune™ 500 CEOs and top officers and tell me if they look like the guys that want to hang with Jay-Z. Wow. That's just wrong on so many levels. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Two awful teams but that was actually a fun game. Easily the best Thursday night game of the year

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) They passed up points once. That has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of this game. They've fumbled twice on drives in Stanford territory and their defense hasn't stopped Stanford since the first series. Gotcha, my eye has mostly been on the epic Redskin/Viking showdown, but I think Stanford has figured something out. If their strength is their O & D lines, makes you think that Bama would do the same thing to Oregon. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Playing smart and kicking field goals would help their cause in situations like this. Watching the OU-Baylor game and Bell is a horrible QB. I remember a little hype he had last year and I was surprised when he looked like he wasnt going to win the starting battle in the summer. Now I see why. Good point. Sometimes you have to play for points or field position, don't always be so aggressive but it's not in their gameplan. From what I remember Bell was always a running QB, never much of a passer. Wasn't he their goalline QB last season? -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) Spirit is an absolutely miserable airlines. But they shouldn't charge you if it's them who run out of room. At least they didn't to me. Isn't Spirit basically the RyanAir of the US? You can't beat the price but expect to get charged for any possible luxury.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) I just keep looking back to last year's game. It was in Eugene and Stanford held the Ducks to 14 points. Obviously these aren't the same teams, but they are close and I can't get that out of my mind. There's still a lot of football to be played, but like I said this morning... -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) Well keep in mind he isn't going to be like negotiating these things all by himself. He's hired some pretty sharp agents to work for him...basically, he's going to leverage his contacts and reputation to try and offer some things Boras can't or doesn't. I wonder if Jay-Z's agency can get better endorsement deals which can help offset some of Boras's MLB experience. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) Just purchased four tix for the Soldier Field game $200 each, not sure if I am happy about this or not. I thought about it, but passed. The $100 tickets are too crappy of a view, and I couldn't convince myself to spend $200 on them. Should be a good time though.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I know. I don't ever recall looking forward to a Thursday night of college football this much. I think Game 2 might be a blowout, though. Obviously these aren't the same teams, but they are close and I can't get that out of my mind. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 07:34 AM) The helmet guy was great, but stupid. The woman pouring the beer over the player's head though... classless and stupid. Knowing how Rocky & McDonough run things, those two drunk jokers won't be stepping foot in another Hawks game anytime soon.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 07:04 AM) Kevin Ware played 10 minutes last night. Scored 6 points. Good for him. It turns out the sight of the injury was much worse than the actual damage. At the time people were saying he was better off than had he torn his ACL or something similar, he would still be out. -

Just a typical Thursday night. Oklahoma-Baylor and Oregon-Stanford. Nothing to see here. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 09:23 PM) How great is it to watch the Hawks who are usually superior to every team they play? Crawford has come on, the offense with the young guys is maturing. We also have aces in the hole in the minors. Love this s***. They really have been cruising along, but things should get more interesting now when they stop playing the s***ty Eastern Conference and Winnipeg.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2013 -> 06:41 PM) I think the more interesting thought is how many pro baseball players are actually playing their favorite sport or if they were just really good at baseball? First you would have to look at the players coming from Central/South America that may have been very poor growing up. If baseball is the best way "off the island", whether or not you like baseball doesn't matter.
