  1. Sucks that either Zlatan or Ronaldo won't make the World Cup. I was hoping Iceland could make it, but it looks like their dream is dying today. Anybody staying up in the middle of the night to watch the All Whites qualify for the WC with a 4-0 home win vs. El Tri?
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) I think they're coming around to getting rid of PK. My articles on Yahoo attract the absolute lowest of the low when it comes to commenters, oftentimes citing the departure of Mark Buehrle as evidence of what's wrong with the franchise. I wrote an article about our need to let go of PK and there was a great deal of agreement among the comments, especially compared to what I expected. On the other hand, one of the top voted comments is someone saying that this is all Jeff Samardzija's fault...so who knows Like I was saying about the fanbase...
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) C'mon man. If you look at it through the casual fan's eye it makes sense. The casual fan absolutely hates Dunn with a passion. They don't say "Oh 30 hrs at the end of the year, nice." You always hear something like "that motherf***er strikes out or fails every time I see him bat" or "why the f*** can't he get over his self-quoted 'stupid, stubborn ways' and learn to hit the baseball away from the shift." This is the casual fan. Not my opinion but what you hear on the streets, at the game, at backyard bbqs, playing bags etc. How can you pretend this line of thinking isn't everywhere in Chicago? It doesn't make sense on any level? That's ludicrous man when you know damn well the city generally despises him more than any Sox I can think of in recent memory. I'd even try to argue Dunn's presence results in tickets not being sold. year by year I swear I lose more and more respect for the Sox fanbase.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 06:48 AM) Rivers vs. KC or RGIII vs. SF? RG3, garbage time points count the same
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Well, the Ravens ran the ball to the 5 where Ray Rice was tackled with like 1:12 left to get the first down. We'd take our first time out there. 1:08 left. Then they'd run a play, say 3-4 seconds long, we take our second time out. 1:04 left. On second down, they run another play, say 3-4 second long, we take our third time out. 1:00 left. On third down, they could run another play that results in a the player being down in bounds and the clock running. The play clock is what, 40 seconds long? They then kick the field goal with 20ish second left. The issue with that reasoning is if they do that, they are either scoring the td or kicking the fg anyways, and the entire timing issue is moot. That's the second time you beat me to it.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) I have no earthly idea where he gets the 18 seconds. Can someone explain to me? He had 3 timeouts and like 50 - 60 seconds left and 1st and goal. In what world would there be 18 seconds left? I'd think you'd have like 30-40 seconds left. Rice ran 11 yards to the 5 Timeout #1 1:16 - 1st & goal - Ravens run and get stuffed Time out #2 1:10 - 2nd & goal - Ravens run and get stuffed Time out #3 1:04 - 3rd & goal - Ravens run and get stuffed No more timeouts, the Ravens can run the 40 seconds down and kick with around 18 seconds left Of course, this assumes that the Ravens don't throw an incomplete pass, don't go out of bounds, don't score, or use one of their own two timeouts.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) But he didn't run a curl. He ran to the back of the endzone. And the ball was caught almost at the same time that he was interfered with. The only hope Gronk has of catching that ball is a deflection. But that didn't happen, the dude caught the ball. It looked like miscommunication to me. Gronk thought Brady was gonna throw it up high for him to go get it, Brady thought he was curling and/or cutting towards the middle.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Also, my opinion of Aqib Talib & Steve Smith did not change. One Two of the dirtiest, s***tiest players in the game.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 07:28 AM) If you put Peyton on the Bears and McCown/Cutler on the Broncos, which team is better? Bears. Both defenses suck.
  10. My team with the least amount of points in the league is back in a 3-way tie for the final playoff spot. I still need to pass the two teams I am tied with but the playoff dream is still alive!
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) What would be wrong with signing AJ for 4 million, one year? He'd be vital in helping our pitching staff. Bring him in as a stopgap. Maybe if they were contending, but on a rebuilding team I imagine his locker room presence is more negative anything.
  12. There is no way Gronk stops his momentum, turns back and reaches the ball, defender or no defender. (Disclaimer: Panthers W won me my confidence pool)
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) Well, if he's right that they'd only have 18 seconds (versus 10 or 7 or whatever) while giving the ravens the ability to change their packages and call a wider variety of plays, it makes sense. I just don't know if he's right about the time that'd be left. He would only be right about the time if the Ravens didn't score a touchdown nor throw an incomplete pass nor go out of bounds. Then you would use the 3 timeouts and the Ravens could run down the play clock all 40 seconds before fourth down. However, if they did get to 4th down, they probably kick a field goal and you can go to overtime anyway. I liked his explanation about forcing the Ravens' hand in regards to personnel and play-calling, but had they scored a touchdown, those 30 seconds that ticked off would have been vital.
  14. Worst thing about NCAA fantasy football? Bye weeks during the playoffs. It's fun to end your season with Johnny Manziel on the bench.
  15. This thread gives me deja vu
  16. Well that was quite the game to have been at. Everyone knew what was coming, it's so ridiculous that the start of the game wasn't just delayed until 3:00. Although I'm sure TV and advertising had a major say on that. The evacuation was pretty calm and orderly, although they closed all concessions for a while which got some people a bit antsy. I keep giving up on this team, and yet they keep dragging me back in. Back in the playoff hunt again, but that loss to Detroit with injured Jay is still killer.
  17. Very solid win for Iowa State, but they were at home and favored so I find all the upset talk funny. I trust the perception of Vegas more than the media and/or coach's rankings.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blackhawks...altender-raanta Raanta recalled, Khabibulin has lower body injury of unknown severity I'd say that's most likely a "career-ending" injury for Khabi. Makes it easy on the Hawks that they don't have to make a tough decision with him since he obviously was done for. Just keep him on IR for the rest of the season.
  19. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Illinois has lost 20 straight BT games, are playing on the road, and are a 7 point favorite against Purdue. I don't want to put too much emphasis on one game, but I think this will go a long way in determining if Beckman is around next year. For the time being, I think he is, but another bad loss here, and it might be enough for Thomas to flip it. So you are saying that we should all root for Purdue?
  20. Odds that I get blown away by a tornado at the Bears game today?
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) It's more that we could see Ellsbury get up into the $120M range and Cano more like $175M - whereas 12 months ago it looked like it might be more like $75M and $250M I'd be shocked if Cano gets less than $200 million.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) He's only 22 but the word might be "enough". 19 HR, 32 2b this season in 626 PA's. Convert that to the big leagues and maybe we're talking similar HR numbers to Gillaspie this year. Thanks, I agree 'enough' would be the right word if he keeps it up. With 2nd & 3rd in flux and Alexei getting older, it's hard to nail him down to an infield position now.
  23. It's hard to believe that this is the same team that scored 7 points vs Wazzu at home. How could anyone hire Lane Kiffin now?
  24. I prefer to have some pop from my 3B, does Semien project to have much power?
