  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 13, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) It was a generic time frame. Ok, so maybe it's five years. I don't care. It's amazing how critical everyone is on this board over posts. Wow. Wow. Someone wanted to discuss your comment on a message board. Welcome to the internet.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) Dodgers would be better to stick to their franchise history, which is scouting and development (until the 1990's), not overpaying for aging veterans. Segura was from the Angels organization, not the Dodgers
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) Holy f*** Bruins tie it with 2 goals in 30 seconds with under 1:30 left. Damnit, I totally stopped watching that game.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 13, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) We don't have an ML-caliber offense. Tearing down is the only way to become a yearly contender. I will gladly take 2-3 years of crap in order to have sustained success rather than years of mediocrity. How do you know it's only gonna take 2-3 years? It could take 10 years if you are lucky.
  5. I saw this career comparison on Grantland and it made me chuckle: Ross Gload: .281/.325/.408 Eric Hosmer : 263/.321/.405
  6. It's official, game 1 on Wednesday at 7 PM. Rest of the schedule to be announced tonight.
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 13, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) I've thought the same thing every time. 3 different commercials, and only guys like me and you know who the hell he is. They totally did the same thing with Brian Orakpo of the Redskins. No one really knows him either, I guess they are trying to dominate the Washington, DC market?
  8. Titus Young is suddenly challenging Rolando McClain for the league lead in arrests.
  9. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Putting aside the solution, does anyone here disagree with the assertion that acquiring a productive, middle of the order, left handed bat is the greatest need? Does anyone think that Dunn is still a realistic candidate to fill that need? I'd just like to clarify the objective here. Yeah, it would be great to find one. Dunn was signed to fill that void, and he obviously failed. In the team's current situation though, I just don't see how acquiring another mediocre 30+ player with an awful contract is a good idea.
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) Yes, it's a big contract, and that's why I asked if the Dodgers might pay a portion of it. Regarding Ethier's inability to hit LHP, at present there aren't many southpaws in our division, but of course that could change. So, who else fits the description of a left handed, middle of the order hitter, whom a team might want to dump because of his contract? LH middle of the order hitters don't grow on trees. If someone is willing to dump that type of player, he probably isn't very good. That's why the Sox had to throw all that money at Dunn, that's why the Tigers gave Prince too many years.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) There are still players who seem to be able to perform in their mid 30's, without PEDs. Is it really unreasonable to expect a guy to hit when he's 32, 33, 34 and 35? Baseball players are in much better condition than they used to be. Maybe that's part of Dunn's problem. He seems to be the exception to the rule when it comes to a conditioning program. From everything I read, Dunn does nothing in the off season, and is not an advocate of weight training or aerobics. Are you willing to risk $69 million on those expectations? No thanks.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:18 AM) If I made a list of major US cities and ranked them in order of how willing I would be to live there, NO might very well come in last. I think I'd pick Anchorage over NO. I absolutely love vacationing in New Orleans, but I would never want to live there.
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:18 AM) What if you take Dunn out of the equation? In that it is highly unlikely that anyone would take him, why not just focus upon players who could be acquired to fill the role of middle of the order hitter? Of course, you can guess that my preference would be for a left handed hitter. Ideally, it would be someone who would be a salary dump and thus not require sacrificing any important pieces from the Sox roster. So, is there a good left handed hitter who could be acquired by taking on a less than desirable contract? Ethier is one name that I floated here before. I think the Dodgers would consider giving him away in order to make room for Puig, and to get out of the remaining 5 years of his contract. At 31 Ethier might reasonably be expected to contribute for at least 4 of the remaining 5 years of that contract. Remember, the Sox don't have a single left handed impact bat, that is expected to be on the active roster in the next 3 or 4 years. Would the Dodgers consider paying a portion of that contract? He is really good vs. RHP. If the Sox acquired him, I would put him in LF, and let Viciedo DH. What would I do with Adam Dunn? Who cares? Anything that didn't include his taking the field. I just can't watch him anymore. That's not a very safe assumption, especially in today's PED-less baseball. Adam Dunn is falling apart at about the same age. I wouldn't be surprised if Ethier's last few years on his contract are awful.
  14. Detroit Red Wings ‏@DetroitRedWings Round Two will start in Chicago with games on Wed & Sat. Full schedule will be released tomorrow.
  15. Not sure why Geico would choose Nicklas Backstrom as a spokesperson but whatever. Looks like it's Detroit in round 2. DETROIT SUCKS!
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2013 -> 09:42 PM) CSIAA
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) How many free agency years is that buying out, 2? According to B-Ref, just one year edit: Also includes two club option years that could make it 9/70, so there are year 2 & 3 of free agency
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Anthony Rizzo is going to be a monster for the Cubs, especially when the wind starts blowing out at Wrigley. Cubs sign Rizzo to a 7-year, $41 million deal through 2019 per Ken Rosenthal.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 12, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) Cmon, dude. Nothing is that terrible. (Insert Snooki joke here)
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Well there's already a break for the West, Monday. True, but don't forget that Gary Bettman is the commish.
  21. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 12, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Tyler needs to hit the ball softer with runners in scoring position. That ball got to Hamilton too quickly to allow the run to score.
  22. The Sox should wear these jerseys every day
  23. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) I'd assume so. Bulls are scheduled for Friday, so can't go Wed/Fri. Tues/Thu would make the most sense. That's what I was thinking, unless they want an off day after the game 7(s) tomorrow, then I could see them going Wed./Sat.? I just hope they announce it right after the Ducks game, I need to schedule my life.
