  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) Verlander has already walked in two runners in this inning alone. That's coming off a 110 pitch performance against the Indians where he was lifted after only 5 IP. Too much Kate Upton in the offseason...
  2. QUOTE (TRU @ May 16, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) There is zero proof that the trade had anything to do with us winning a world series.. you have no way to know how the season would have played out had the trade not happened, still could have won a world series but well never know.. It was a bad trade as far as value goes, there is no argument to dispute that.. Zero proof, except for the fact that multiple players acquired as a result of the trade were key contributors to a World Series champion. Maybe they win it all with El Caballo in LF, maybe they don't, who knows. But we do know that the trade led straight to a WS that season. Who cares about trade value when you win the World Series. Sometimes it's not about value, it's about doing what's best for your team.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) You guys living in CST and EST, do you hate these late west coast games or is it nice to be able to watch it late without distraction? When I was younger, they were awesome, but now no thanks. I stay awake for Hawks playoff games, but no way for regular season baseball.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:52 PM) Champaign's thing with letting 19 and 20 yo's into the bars and then raiding one or two Thursday-Saturday nights, handing out $300+ drinking tickets but no other punishment (lots of places have community service requirements) was a nice racket. While I enjoyed the ability to enter the bars (and drink) while I was 19 & 20, I always thought it made no sense to let us in underage. I did contribute $260 to the Champaign government fund after a raid at C.O. Daniels.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) The Beatles were still technically a band when Mariano Rivera was born. He was born 4 months after we landed on the moon. Still in the bigs. And he's not Jamie Moyer still in the bigs, he's top 5 closer in the game stil in the bigs.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) I've never, ever understood why some people do that. "Hey, you're blitzed, I'm sober, but you drive!" That's what happened in that Dallas Cowboys car crash last year. Now the sober guy is dead.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) It sounds like Peavy would be willing to accept a trade anywhere if that team was in contention. Which seems to be a change in his stance from past years.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) Hah...this is true! Maybe they could make some kind of aftermarket device that is required... You could make it required, but the enforcement is the issue. That's hundreds of millions of cars out there.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Why not? Automakers are putting all kinds of stuff in cars...why can't they do this? I'm more thinking about old cars. It can be done in all new cars from this date forward, but it could take 20+ years to get all the old cars off the road. It would be tough to make every single person bring in every single car in to get it installed. People with drinking problems would search for and pay money for cars without the device too.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) That's why he's saying that the way to make it less of a safety issue isn't to just keeping jacking up the fines and suspensions. I agree with your idea of the breathalyzer ignition lock devices on all cars. However, implemntation of that doesn't seem very feasible in the near future.
  11. Your Lady Byng finalists are Matt Moulson, Martin St. Louis, and Patrick Timothy Kane Jr.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 16, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Don't you lose all menal stability after 3 beers and turn into a beer pounding pile of masculinity who drives home and just DESTROYS some p****? CRUSHING IT!!!!
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ May 14, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) Finally shot out the final season of Weeds. The last two seasons were an improvement from the previous few but never had a show go so downhill like that. Felt it was the gf who broke up with me out of nowhere and tried to forget about her but finally seeked her for closure. Despite Soxtalk's advice, I kept watching after season 3. While there were a few WTF stretches, overall I didn't think it was that bad. Just finished season 7 and it has kept me entertained. I can never get enough Doug Wilson, he cracks me up.
  14. QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2013 -> 08:10 PM) that doesnt justify a bad trade.. you could have still traded Lee for a better return and saved all that salary.. like I said im glad we won the world series, but that trade sucked A WS title justifies any trade. With Pods leading off and the money saved to acquire other players, that trade directly led to a WS title, isn't that the final goal? If they had gotten more talent, but not won the WS, would that still have been a better trade in your eyes? It's like the Cardinals trade of Colby Rasmus. On paper, it looked like they got screwed talent-wise. However, the players they acquired helped them win the World Series that fall. Sounds like a winning trade to me.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2013 -> 05:36 AM) If he gets his stuff straight, I could see him coming back. He's only like 24, right? Not even, he's only 23. That would take A LOT of straightening to get him back on track.
  16. Now that was a fun time. That game stayed tied a little too late for my taste, but Howard could only save the day for so long.
  17. The Ravens announced Rolando McClain's retirement
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Wiscy's two one-off conference games, OSU and MSU AT HOME. You p**** Bo. Sets up for Wisco to steal a share of the Big Ten title
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) No way. Unless there's something wrong with his arm, he's gettin' paid. "Left triceps tightness"
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 15, 2013 -> 10:54 AM) I still think the SF Giants are a pretty good model...where they were in 2007-2009 seems pretty similar to where we are now...I remember thinking they were a mess, with the Bonds thing coming to a disastrous ending, having Zito on the books for several more years, trading Tim Alderson to Pittsburgh for Freddy Sanchez, etc...they looked very lost...and turned it around very quickly. I don't see why we couldn't pull of the same thing. The Giants have taken advantage of their division and ballpark. They loaded up on pitching, developed two impact bats, and have just kept winning. The Sox are starting to stockpile arms, but their league/park requires them to have much more offense than SF does.
  21. Hey Don Mattingly, half your rotation is already injured. Should your 25-year old ace really be throwing 132 pitches on May 14?
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Somethin' about that Tampa jersey. Scrubs just flourish over there. Most efficient organization in baseball. If they ever moved to a city with actual baseball fans, they could become a powerhouse.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 14, 2013 -> 10:45 PM) Leaving minny 1-0 all time at target center. Nice field, quiet fans. And why the hell is everyone here white? "The only black people in Minnesota are Prince & Kirby Puckett." - Chris Rock
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) He's searching for a bigger house to live in once he retires. Which is probably gonna be in October if he keeps this up
