Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition
whitesoxbrian replied to nitetrain8601's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I'd rather see Anderson and Swisher out there as oppossed to Griffey and Konerko. I guess Ozzie believes AARP will not let him in if he makes such a move. Bingo. Where the hell is Anderson? He seriously is twice as good as Griffey at the plate right now and 10000000x better in the field. Same goes with Swisher. Konerko is so bad it makes me sick. If I get 2 outs against the Sox, and our 3-4-5 is coming up, I'd walk Q, Dye, and Thome. -
Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition

Nice play, Cabrera. Christ. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) And we've been with out a starting pitcher, our setup man and the starting 3B. It takes some time, at best, to overcome that. We may not, but don't throw in the towel now. They also lost their gold glove CF'er, lost their Cy Young winning ace, have a spotty bullpen, and lost their starting RF'er in Michael Cuddyer.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:17 AM) Houston Astros ^^^^^^ Blue Jays??

Hey witesoxfan, I was reading a magazine in which they said the 2nd best sports store (not sure if it's a card store or an actual apparel store) in the USA is somewhere in ND (or was it SD?). What do you know about that?
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) That could have been said right after the 06 season for the Sox. In September of 2007, it looked like the Sox would be in trouble for a LONG TIME. As others have said, the M's don't deserve to be anywhere near this list. Right now, it was to be Washington, followed up by Pitt. Another good one is the Rangers. That franchise overall f***ing sucks. That's true. Good point. And, I agree about Texas.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) What's your deal with hating on Seattle, they came close to the Wild Card last year and many people, including some on this website picked them to make the playoffs this year. I actually love the city and the park, so it's not that. It might just be that they flat out stink and have so much money invested in so many medicore players (with the exception being Ichiro). They came close last year- great. Many picked them on this website to make the playoffs this year- exactly, so now that they aren't even close to that, they've under-achieved badly this year, and because of it, the team will be in shambles for so many years to come. It's going to be tough extending Felix now, too.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) Worst franchise in terms of history: Washington (since Tampa Bay hasn't been around very long and is great this year) Worst franchise in general right now: Flip a coin between Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Seattle. Fixed.
-
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) And in the next few seasons the Expos dumped all of their good players. Plus that's been 14 years ago, the Mariners were only 7 years ago. Sure the Mariners are one of the biggest dissapointments this year, but I have a hard time putting them in the mentioning of the worst teams in all of baseball. They have 4 90+ win seasons this decade. Granted they all game from 2000-2003. So what makes for the current worst franchise? To invest so much into a team this year, to have such high hopes, to trade away your best prospect...only now to be close to 30 games out, if it isn't there already. They are in deep trouble for the future and they will have top 10 picks for 3-5 years still because of this. It's a messed up organization and now nobody is going to want to go there. I just hope Joey Cora can fix 'em up next year.
-
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) Although they set a record for wins in a season in 2001. Actually they tied with the 1907 or 1908 Cubs. But, they did set a 162 game schedule record. And yet, the Expos were arguably the favorites in the strike year to win a title.
-
With Beltre, Washburn, Ichiro, Bedard, and Putz?? locked up with so much money invested in each guy, along with the fact that they traded their #1 prospect for that wuss-bag Bedard, makes me believe Seattle deserves some consideration.
-
Who is the worst franchise in baseball? It has to be Washington, with San Diego, Seattle, and Cincinnati all close.
-
He'll pitch tomorrow IMO, and if he pitches well, I can see him and Broadway going to Seattle for Washburn. Just a thought.

And Phelps wins the 400m whatever heat. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) I'm mostly serious. Can you imagine them not going at least 5-1 in the next six at home? And Yanks usually beat the s*** out of Minnie. So you made my point for me- the Sox having a 1 game lead going to a play a team in which they usually struggle is big especially when the team right on our a**es is home against a bad and a medicore team.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) The way the Twins are playing you'd think it's 5-1 minimum probably 6-0. They actually won a series vs. the Yankees? My god. Twins equal amazing; Yanks may be finished as they actually lose a series to Minnie, a team they normally own. I can't tell whether you're sarcastic or serious.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) I like the enthusiasm, but isn't it crazy how close the race is and is going to be? Whoopie we'd be one whole game up! Minnesota will be at home for the next 6 against Seattle and Oakland, one of which is bad and one of which is medicore. All of which will be at the Metrodome. From 2005-2007, we're 9-15 against Oakland, so it is big potentially having a 1 game lead going there.
-
Nice, solid win today. Good to stay in 1st. Getz was 1-3 yet he hit 2 balls hard that were outs and Buehrle was great. KC now has 4 runs in 4 days. Win tomorrow and we're 1 game up going to Oakland.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) If Getz really ends up working out and Alexei turns out to be really as good as he's looked so far, where does Gordon Beckham fit in the picture down the line? 3B/DH/RF?? -
Gordon "Slayer" Beckham Signs for 2.6 Million

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) Then I'll say it. This franchise is already over-paying for a good-but-not-great SS. They don't need to make that mistake again next year with Alexei and Beckham already at their disposal. The Sox need to concentrate on 3B, CF, and C. If Posey would have fell to us this year, he would have been ours. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Danks is a CF'er but he might not even sign so that could be out. Next year, with our 5-7 picks in the first 35 or whatever, we will most certainley draft a C, 3B, CF, 1B, and probably a SP/RP. -
How is Getz's defense?
-
So the ESPN guys doing Texas/Boston today just said that Boston has one each of Lester's last 9 starts. To me, that seems impossible seeing as if he started Friday and we won the game.

Great news. Hopefully we can sign Danks now- I heard Danks took BP with the team a month or so ago and he hit one onto the concourse. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) They gave back 1st place last night. Now its up to the Sox to keep it Exactly. Now, if we sweep KC, we'll have a 1 game lead going into Oakland.
