Doesn't Mike Aviles deserve some consideration?? -
Make the best possible bullpen out of ex-Sox

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) First of all, we'll never know how much of his results with the Dodgers were legitimate. I'm skeptical or dubious. Second, losing a first round draft pick (not signing, although we didn't suffer losing AJ Hynch or Bobby Hill either) is much different than a 30th round pick. I think Cubs' fans should be more upset that they let Josh Hamilton go for virtually nothing to the Reds...compared to Sox fans being up in arms we didn't sign Eric Gagne. Right. So you wouldn't have taken Sosa or Bonds? Who said I'm (we're?) up in arms over losing him? I'm just saying... -
So today at my side job, at a sports store, I bet a customer that the Sox would finish with a better record then Texas. If the Sox do, he owes me 2 authentic jerseys (official game jerseys for whatever team, whatever color, and whatever player). If the Rangers do, I owe him the same. And, don't say we're betting nothing because these jerseys START OUT AT $200 each. I figure he has no chance, with the Sox being 13 over and Texas being 4 over. Thoughts?

Where's Eric Gagne? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Didn't see the game. Is Griffey looking poor in the field? Somebody alluded to it. Would have been very nice to sweep especially against Miner who ain't very good. Two out of three is fine, but the BoSox are coming to town. We better be ready to play. They are damn good as you all know. OC and AJ 0-10 tonight? Yuk. Griffey an oh-fer. Javy not so great. Time to strap 'em up. Minnesota vs. the lousy Royals while we battle the BoSox. Griffey looking poor in the batter's box, too.

2/3 isn't bad. Win the series vs the Sawx now.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) Well, by that measure alone, Royce Clayton is a much better SS than Jose Valentin. This debate happened over and over again about five years ago...with many asserting that Valentin's range factor and arm made up for many of the mistakes he made...as Clayton's lack of range and so-so arm resulted in fewer errors, but many batters reaching base that ordinarily wouldn't have. For instance, there's no way in h-ll that Cabrera is the second best AL SS this year...or that Alexei Ramirez is one of the worst, based on errors/FP alone, it just doesn't tell more than one tiny part of the story. Same thing with Crede's first-step quickness...he gets to a lot of balls that other 3B wouldn't touch...and saves doubles and occasional triples as well by knocking down balls before they get down the line or into the outfield. These are the kind of stats that aren't easily measurable...like how many foul-outs and pop flies Ray Durham or Ramirez prevented from becoming singles or made into outs with their closing speed/range. Then how do you measure it? Sure, many more line drivers and sharp grounders down the line would probably fall and roll, but Blake makes less errors. I'm sure if you use that range factor stat that Crede is better in the field, though.

Finally, that annoying piece of crap is gone. Now that he's on the East coast, ESPN will be sucking on his nuts even more now.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 05:30 AM) You would sign Blake and start him at 3B? That seems like a recipe for disaster...if we're really trying to improve our infield defense or sustain it at the same level it has been the last 3-4 years. His FP lifetime is better then Brooks Crede's.

Great win. Seems like everytime we need a big performance we get one (Floyd in MIN, Danks today). Great game for Jimmy and nice tack on 2 run single by Lexei. Sweep these @$$holes tomorrow! BTW- my excuse is I worked 2-11.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Well, if we sweep the Tigers, than "THIS. TEAM. IS. DEAD." would accurately apply to the Tigers in my opinion. Also, if we win tonight, I think we will sweep them with as demoralizing as another loss would be to them after the way last night's game went. So tonight is an important game, even beyond the obvious. That's what everyone said after we won the first 2 in Detroit in that last series. GET A W!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:54 AM) I don't know about anyone else, but I really don't want to get tied into a long-term deal with Dunn, and quite frankly, I get nervous whenever the team ties someone up to a long-term deal. If you would be able to get him for 4 years, it'd be a different story, but that extra 5th year just really seems to tack on a lot to me for whatever reason and I could easily see him getting 5. I'd pick up Thome's option next year and hope to be able to find a replacement via trade that has about 3 or so years left on their deal. In the meantime, I could easily see the Sox having a generally quiet offseason. Sign one of Furcal and Hudson with Alexei manning the other position and bringing in a 3Bman (and I'd be perfectly content with Beltre). That is true. However, I'm never too concerned about locking up a guy like him at all. It'd be different if he had one monster season, like Beltre. Dunn consistently just blasts bombs and gets on base. It'd also be different if it were a SP. Just ask SF... If we signed O-Dog and Casey Blake, that'd be a really good offseason IMO. Maybe another SP, like an Oliver Perez, at the right price.

Lovie owns Favre. Therefore, I see no problem in taking the "owning" to another level week 3.

Who do you dislike as a sports fan?

Roy Williams, Lions- prick dances for a first down when down 17 with 30 seconds left. -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) Thome will be back, so Dunn is out. Dunn only fits in at DH, and Thome will meet his vesting option. Thome leaving and Dunn taking over makes all the sense in the world, but Thome will be back. How many PAs does Thome need still and how many is he on pace for?

Some rookie SP Waters from Baltimore shut out LAA in 8 innings today.

It'd be hard to argue for Ozzie, but in no way should AJ be on here. He does nothing wrong, ever. "He didn't have to run in game 2 of the ALCS" says the typical Cubs fan, yet they'd love it if he did. When he ran Barrett over, he did nothing wrong- as a major leaguer, you're taught to run the catcher over if he's blocking the plate without the ball. Also, when a guy charges the mound, it's his job to tackle/hold back/stop that guy from getting to his pitcher. The guy next to me at the game today told his friend AJ is a jerk. It just so happens that when you go see the Sox on the road, the only guy who signs any autographs is Guillen (a few), Cooper (a few), and AJ (a bunch).

Wow, hands down the best game I've ever been at besides game 2 of the ALCS in 2005. Never have I been more excited, anxious, happy, and frustrated in one game besides game 2. What a game for MVQ, Lexi, and then obviously Swisher. Paulie had that 2 run HR as well. Great job by the bullpen- what, 10 innings and only 2 runs? MARINERS

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Why doesnt the NL employ advance scouts? 1-2 inside heater to Soriano? Come on. I could get him to chase a breaking ball outside the zone. Couldn't agree more.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Geoff Blum Home Run! 6-5 Cubs also Lou sent home Eyre I believe because he was getting upset or something I wasnt listening that closely I love Geoff Blum. Just ask witesoxfan. 7-6 HOU. Cub Killer C-Lee hits a 2 run HR off of Howry. Yay for former Sox dominating Cubs pitching. BTW- why is Bob Howry still on the Cubs? Talk about bad.

Where's Sholess Joe????

I heard Lou sent him home. Does anybody know what he did?

I was going to post this in the Sox catch-all thread, but it's cool. I voted for Frank.
