I actually looked it up. When he starts, they are 27-19. In all games he's played, they are 29-22.

Yeah, the velocity is underwhelming. I thought he lived in the high 90s, at least that's the gist when we drafted him. Both him and Schultz have very underwhelming fastballs for guys who were supposed to throw hard.

Like the record is impressive and it's hard to argue against, but is he really that much better at calling a game and playing defense back there? I honestly don't see it. Baseball Savant metrics have him as a below average blocker (fits the eye test), and average at framing and throwing runners out (seems about right). And he sure as hell isn't contributing to that record on offense. I guess it really could be a case of all our other catchers are pure s%*# at defense and Romo being average is just that much better.

So is Urquidy the bulk reliever then?

Yeah Castillo not making it out of the 5th in 2 of his starts where the bullpen was absolutely gassed is not something you want out of a guy who is supposed to be a workhorse veteran.

He has elite extension, so the velocity isn't as big of an issue. The bigger issues are his control and that his velocity dips a lot if he has to go past the first inning. For someone who has aspirations to be a starter, that can't happen.

He's thinking about it as if Hagen was on the mound. But if he used Brazoban, walking PCA and pitching to Suzuki makes a lot more sense.

They need to do something about the early challenges. All the stats say that you want to challenge late and close and not in the first few innings with nobody on base and early in the count. But we keep doing it. And it's usually guys with a good eye for the strike zone too. Mune's wasted a lot of challenges recently early in games.

This was a game they really didn't deserve to win with how they played. But they still had a great shot at it. The problem is that you have no idea who the hell is pitching the next 2 days. Gonna need the offense to actually show up if they want to at least get one of these games.

The one Rogers didn't challenge almost had the entire ball in the zone. Seriously, f*** this ump. Rogers was stupid not to challenge, but missing a blatant strike like that is just terrible.

I'm still pissed at Rogers not challenging that pitch to Bregman. He even fucking paused to think about it and did nothing about it. Then he challenged out of frustration on the next pitch that wasn't a strike. That changed the Bregman AB and also took us out of challenging the last pitch to Happ. The Sox have to do better with challenges. It's costing us games.
