  1. Purdue ruined my good start. Ugh.
  2. I picked Yale as my 5-12 upset. Not disappointed.
  3. Lots of ESPN articles/videos backing the Sox on this. I think a lot of non-baseball fans will side with LaRoche. This seems like it's more than just a sports story. But most level-headed baseball fans will see through it.
  4. Can Eaton stop using Twitter? He already got in some trouble with the Oscars tweet and now he's actively Tweeting against the decision made by the front office of his own team? SMH.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) To be fair, he hit substantially better than LaRoche last year, and is a much better bet to bounce back. But yeah, I'd want most of the contract paid for. Even then, it puts a risky piece in the lineup for many years. Avi hit better than him last year. It'd be buying low on a potential bounce back, but a really really expensive one at that.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Oh my god I had no idea he was getting that much. I knew it was big but I thought it decreased. If you thought we spent our money poorly last off-season, Boston outdid us by at least a hundred million with Hanley and Panda.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) From a Boston writer: Jay Kenney ‏@RealJayKenney 5h5 hours ago Boston, MA Rumblings today that Hanley Ramirez could be sent to the Chicago White Sox. Nothing concrete though f*** no. Boston better be paying for almost all of it if it's even remotely true.
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) That's sort of what it sounds like, but it makes zero sense. I still think it was absolutely the right call, but is that quote implying Kenny Williams made that decision completely on his own without any of the players being on board? I just can't believe that. The other way to read that is once again Kenny is falling on the sword, so that LaRoche doesn't have to wonder who were the teammates that had an issue. Kenny has no problems being the bad guy.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) David Haugh ‏@DavidHaugh 19m19 minutes ago Williams addressed unified #WhiteSox team: "One thing I commended my players on was sticking together. They stuck by their guy and his son. This better not have a lasting impact on the team chemistry. If the players wanted him around, but Kenny said no, then this is a bad bad idea.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Whoa, what's going on in Munich right now? Pep wants to avoid playing City.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) One of the guys I follow on Twitter was trying to compare Leicester winning the Premiership to an American "upset" championship and it's hard to compare. The Devil Rays were similar with how they beat the big money Red Sox & Yankees but they never won it all and the division was only 5 teams. Butler winning the basketball title could have matched it but winning a single elimination tournament is so much simpler than a full round robin like Leicester. The Rays winning a WS might be the closest thing. Baseball doesn't have a salary cap, just like European soccer. So you get these huge discrepancies in talent and resources. But we don't have a relegation system like soccer. So you'll never get AA teams making their way up the ladder and winning a World Series or anything. It's very hard to compare.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) It isn't a black or white thing. I think they are both right. The Sox have the right to control the work environment, and LaRoche has the right (and ability) to quit his job and do what he wants to do. More power both of them. I don't get LaRoche choosing that as an issue to quit on, but if he believes it in that much, good for him to stand up for it. The thing with LaRoche is that he sucked last year and it was clear his body wasn't going to really hold up after that injury last week. So if he wasn't going to be good and he was going to be hurting, at least he was going to have his son around. But with the Sox dropping the hammer on that, he'd literally have nothing to play for. I can see why he wanted to retire.
  13. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Lots of new people on the team this year. I'd guess that other players probably wanted clubhouse access and a stall for their own kids as well. Or perhaps no kids at all in the clubhouse. I respect the fact that LaRoche is a family-oriented guy, but a major-league clubhouse really isn't a place for kids. And if he had a big problem with that (which I'm very skeptical of in the first place), then too bad. I wouldn't want a kid in the clubhouse if I were a ML player. If I'm in a room of adults, I'm gonna talk and swear like one. I don't want kids around to hear that or for them to be around to restrict me from expressing myself.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 11:54 PM) Some of my friends are doing the Bernie or bust bulls***. That's not how this works guys. Some of those people will be okay with voting for Trump. It's crazy how many stories I've heard second hand about certain Bernie supporters voting for Trump if Hillary wins the nomination.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 12:19 AM) Well, after tonight, Hillary's about wrapped it up. The nomination is hers. Congrats to her. I never thought I'd see the day two Clintons were presidents. Please please remember Greg's prediction about Chelsea in nine years. She's actually gonna be in her late 40s when mom is done with the oval office. Hillary's gonna get 8 years to put her stamp on the USA. Let's hope it's not the demise of the USA. And the difficult part for her was beating out Bernie. She's going to win almost every state against Trump. I mean, cmon, this was all a weird sideshow. I bet even Trump is happy he's assured Hillary the presidency. In the past he wasn't exactly a Hillary hater. To those of you who wanted Hillary, I'd feel better if you'd give me some reasons our country isn't going to fall apart in the next eight years, actually the next 16 with Hillary followed by Chelsea. You seriously think Chelsea Clinton can win a nomination for president in 8 years? She hasn't even held political office yet and I wouldn't say she has a ton of political experience.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) So many people are going to be forced to vote for Hillary just to oppose the disaster that is Trump. It's akin to Howard stern haters actually giving him the ratings. I prefer Bernie, but I have no problem voting for Hillary if the alternative is Trump.
  17. Damn I was looking forward to seeing him redeem himself 2012 Adam Dunn style. Let's put that money to good use FO.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) "tell it like it is" is thinly veiled code for saying bunch of bigoted things I think "we need to stop being so politically correct" is what he uses for that.
  19. Anyone see Okazaki's bicycle kick goal yesterday? Leicester's just coming up with crazy ways to win.
  20. I think we need either one CB or S in Free Agency. Love what we've done so far though.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) Trump repeating some 4chan nonsense about the guy who tried rushing him yesterday being a part of ISIS was special /pol loves them some Trump. If you go read Reddit's politics subreddit, the Trump supporters are coming out in full force too.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) With Butler, that's probably a W last night Perhaps. Our defense was awful and some of the turnovers were head scratchers. Guys were missing open passes by a good 3 feet. Moore played out of his mind and more or less replaced Jimmy's production on offense. We really need him on the defensive end though. Rose also couldn't keep up with a 33 year old Parker.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 2m2 minutes ago The Cleveland #Browns officially cut Johnny Manziel. Maybe he's the Broncos' new QB...
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) So far they have signed LB Danny Trevthan and OT Bobby Massie. Resigned OT Nick Becton, RB Jacquizz Rodgers, and CB Tracy Porter. Have been connected to OG Louis Vazquez, S TaShaun Gipson, S David Bruton, CB Patrick Robinson, and CB Casey Heyward. I know Hayward was great a few years back, is he still good?
  25. QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) I wasn't listening closely but somebody please tell me Rowand didn't just say Avi shares Manny Ramirez' ability to work a pitcher. Rowand is the new Hawk.
