QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) those are probably like pillows on his feet compared to those french bricks he was wearing. I swear there has been at least twice in this short season where i have seen Derricks foot come completely out of his shoe while he was just cutting. Not like it was stepped on and he pulled his foot out, but just cutting to stay in front of his defender and the shoe just stayed behind. you would think with the ankle issues that those shoes would be strapped tight to his feet. Adidas shoes usually have very good ankle support. But they're so damn light that it's extremely easy to take a wrong step on a cut and just fall.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) On a sidenote, mad props to Jimmy B. Stud against Demarr. Pau has been a beast. So much more aggressive then his Laker days. Best of all, defense playing Chicago Bulls defense!!! McDermott looked awful though. It seems like giving Jimmy what he wanted before the season was the right thing to do. If he keeps playing like this, there's no way he doesn't get the max.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) i think the shoe criticism talk may get louder if this rolled ankle stuff keeps happening. It would be REALLY interesting if it comes to a head like it did with Noah, and he decides he needs to wear a different shoe for better support Except he went with Adidas...lol.

Had Stanton not gotten hurt, I think it would have been a lot closer. But Kershaw did have a historic season and I think it was well deserved.

So how does Rose play relatively injury free for 3 years and now he's getting hurt like a 40 year old?

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Where did you view peak Duncan. Even with peak Duncan, I never thought he should definitely be the guy to take the last shot on that team. But then again, the Spurs are a really bad example of hero ball, which is kind of what I'm talking about right now.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) Anthony Davis has so much potential on defense that I think it gives him the edge. Defensive anchors are hard to find and ones that can average 25 PPG are nearly impossible today. The sample size is still obviously really small, but Davis is putting up an O-Rating at a Durant/Lebron type level while putting up a D-rating at a Hibbert type level. I still think, that at the end of the day, the ability to close out a game and put your team on your shoulder offensively matters almost more than anything in the NBA. I'm not sure if AD will ever have the closing ability of LeBron or Durant.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) I'm still taking Lebron or Durant. Yup. AD is one of the best two way players this league has seen in a long time, but I'm still taking the best player since Jordan and the best scorer of this generation ahead of him.

Anybody watch South Park yesterday? I was confused as hell during the last part of it, but it was hilarious nonetheless.

Elvis Andrus
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) No, he's not grossly overpaid. He might be overpaid, but if I were a Rangers fan, I wouldn't be upset whatsoever with Andrus' contract or, at the very least, his AAV. He's being paid as an above average regular and that's exactly what he is, perhaps with a ceiling that's a bit higher. As for the Sox acquiring him, no, I do not believe they should. Andrus is a pretty good player, but he doesn't fit what the Sox need at the current moment. If he played like he did 2 years ago fine, but the past two seasons haven't been pretty for him at the plate.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 7m7 minutes ago Tigers acquire Anthony Gose from Blue Jays for Devon Travis. According to baseball america, Travis was the Tigers #1 prospect. They traded their #1 prospect for Anthony Gose lmao. Uh...wow. Either their system is total s*** or they must have really liked Anthony Gose. You know, the guy who can't hit to save his life.

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) Derrick wishes not to bring more catastrophic injuries upon himself by pushing it when dealing with minor injuries in the first week of the season, everyone loses their minds If he put it a bit more like that, this wouldn't be an issue. Instead, he made it sound like he's thinking about things other than his job, which you know doesn't bode well with Chicago fans.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Signing ANY reliever is risky. Its just the nature of the business. Personally, I trust my eyes and my eyes tell me that Miller has some of the best stuff in the league. And is 4/32M really that bad? A good set-up guy like Gregerson would probably cost 3/18 at best for us. If we hope to compete anytime soon the bullpen has to be vastly upgraded one way or another. You're assuming we can get him for $8 million a year. I think he might get more. That's just what the market dictates right now.

2014 Award Nominees
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) I keep going back and forth between Kluber's and Felix's stats, and they are both deserving, would have been fair if either guy won. I wouldn't have complained either way. I think Kluber gets a bit of an edge because Felix pitched in such a pitcher-friendly park, which helps alleviate the difference in ERA a bit.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) Great logic. Andrew Miller is left handed and so was Matt Thornton. Matt Thornton wasn't a good closer so therefore Miller won't be. Is that how it works? I can most likely name a failed white sox player for every scenario you could possibly think of. Matt Thornton was one of the best relievers (left handed or right handed) in baseball before we tried to turn him into a closer in 2011. I'm just saying: just because a guy can pitch in innings 7 or 8 doesn't mean they can do it in the 9th. I'm fine with doing that experiment on our pitchers, but paying a guy closer money to do something he's never done before is risky.

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) In 2018 they might be coming off their 7th consecutive AL Central crown, so you can't really say they haven't gotten their money's worth. Exactly. It's nice to make fun of what might happen in 4 years, but we won't be laughing next year or two years from now if we don't make some big moves with our payroll flexibility.

Andrew Miller signs with Yankees
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) No idea why people are making posts as if Miller wouldn't be our immediate closer if he was singed. He's got some of the best stuff for 1 inning of any pitcher in the league. If he's around the plate like he was last year he's dominant. Obviously some advanced scouting would need to be done to see if the scouts trust his improved control or not, but $8-10 million for a good closer isn't overpaying at all. He's never pitched in that role before. I don't want another Matt Thornton situation on our hands.

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
I think the Tigers did OK in terms of the overall money. Yes, $17 million is a lot of money. Yes, V-Mart will never hit like he did last year again. Yes, he's old. But I doubt they care what's going to happen in years 3 of 4 of his contract. They know they're screwed anyhow and they're in it to win now. I would have gladly taken Martinez at 3 years and $17 million per year and I didn't even want him since I thought he'd get something even crazier. I think we need to realize that while we need to be smart with how we spend our money, we also have to realize there's not that many players of Martinez's caliber you can sign or trade for. If we don't end up signing a big free agent, we'd just be wasting another year of Sale and Abreu in 2015.

A 4 year contract to a to-be 30 year old who was predominantly a LOOGY before this year? Count me out.

Chris Sale finishes 3rd in Cy Young voting
Kluber winning is not a joke, not even close. If I had to pick between Kluber and Sale to win a game, it'd be Sale. But the Cy Young award isn't about that. It's about your body of work over a season. And Kluber's body of work included 70 more innings pitched. That's like pitching 10 more starts. That has a ton of value, especially when the guy pitching those innings had a 2.44 ERA, 2.35 FIP, and led the league in strikeouts.

Very surprised Kluber won, considering Felix had a lower ERA. Kluber actually led all of baseball in fWAR. Awesome to see him win it.
