  1. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) I really love the fact that DRose doesn't have to be 2011 MVP Rose to win a title this year. He just can't be the last two weeks Derrick Rose. Because that Derrick Rose is literally worse than Josh Smith.
  2. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Putting up numbers on a bad team isn't the same thing as putting up numbers on a good team. It's usually difficult to go from one situation to another and put up the same raw numbers while playing better defense. I think most people would say that he has been much better this year than he was in the last two with the Lakers, even though the numbers are similar. Being on a better team makes everyone look a bit better. I personally think Gasol's actual talent, in comparison to previous years, is more or less the same. He's just in a better environment where he's fit to succeed. He's got a DPOY winner playing next to him. He's now the second option as opposed to the go-to-guy like he was last year. And the team's winning. Nobody has motivation to play on a crappy team, especially someone nearing their mid-30s. I appreciate what Gasol's been doing for this team, he's way better than what Boozer's been the past 3 years and that's all I could have asked for from him.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) With out looking at his numbers was Jim Edmonds really that good? Always seemed like a good not great player to me but like I said, I haven't looked at any of his stats. He hit home runs and played really good defense. So that at least garners some merit.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Sorry, I should have bolded only the "The Gasol we are seeing isn't that different from the Gasol on the Lakers the past 2 years". I completely disagree with that. He really isn't that different though. D'antoni did him no favors, but the fact he's shooting about the same percentage as last year tells you he's not much better. His minutes-load, his rebounding, and his blocked shots are definitely better this year, which are big contributions to the team. However, his per 36 shooting numbers are extremely similar (4.9 FTA/36 for both years, 1.7 FGA less than last, but even 14.8 FGA per game when looking at his overall numbers) and he's converting at a similar rate outside of FTs (48% from the field both years, FT% is up almost 10%, which explains his slightly better TS%).
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 9m9 minutes ago Biggest HOF voting jumps: Schilling up 48 votes, Raines up 39, Piazza up 29. Biggest drops: Kent minus-10, McGwire minus-8, Smith minus-5 I hope that d-bag never makes it in, even though his career numbers warrant him a spot.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Who said Gasol is the team MVP? He's been a great addition and is deserving of an all star game but the teams best player is currently Butler. That said, what Gasol brings on the court (and off the court) is huge. Jenks said it a page back. Somebody else mentioned this was prime Gasol a few days ago in this thread as well. I just wanted to chime in with my thoughts about that.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) He's had his fair share of duds too (Portland, Atlanta and the Nets last week). Again, I don't disagree, but Pau's offense from the post provides quite a bit of space on the floor for Butler and Noah (edit: and Rose) to do their thing. I think that's forgotten. I think the fact you remember the exact games where he wasn't outstanding means he was definitely outstanding the rest of the games.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) This is idiotic. One look at his efficiency numbers tells you that Gasol this year hasn't been leaps and bounds better than Gasol with the Lakers in the past 2. Gasol's shooting 48% this year, he shot 48% last year. His TS% is .540 this year, it's been in the .520 range the past two years. He's getting to the line a bit more this year, but in terms of actually shooting the ball, he's not any better. His rebounding rates are better, especially on offense, which helps his ORtg a bit. Prime Gasol once led the league in ORtg and had a TS% around .600. This isn't that guy and he'll never be that guy again. But I'm fine with it. I just don't think he's this team's MVP. That title belongs to Butler.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) He's being ignored a little. At this point he's my MVP for the Bulls, as much as Butler deserves the mention as well. 1 off the league lead in double doubles, putting up career stats in boards and blocks. He's "won" us more games than Jimmy at this point. But both have been amazing. Jimmy's been extremely consistent this year, whereas there's been games where Gasol couldn't hit the side of a barn with his jumper. Gasol's good games are really good, but he's also disappeared a handful of times this year when the team needed him. He's also not the best defender. His length is nice to have, but he's very slow. People who are saying this is old Gasol...stop that. Old Gasol was an elite post player who shot 55% from the field. The Gasol we're getting this year isn't that much different than the Gasol on the Lakers the past 3 years, with the exception that he has a way better team, coach, and system around him. I like the signing, but let's not sugar-coat it too much.
  10. I'm fairly convinced that Jimmy was hurt last year, which is why he shot like crap. Jimmy's efficiency numbers are better, but not all that different from his 2012 numbers. The big difference is that he's now doing that over a larger number of minutes. I said two years ago that Jimmy was going to be Kawhi Leonard lite...well, turns out he's actually way better.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) So Waiters to Thunder Smith, Shumpert and Thunder protected first rounder to Cavs Non-guaranteed Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk, 2019 second rounder from Cavs/ Lance Thomas from Thunder to Knicks http://m.espn.go.com/nba/story?storyId=12125440 Shumpert is a very good get for the Cavs. They finally got someone who can play defense in their lineup outside of LeBron. I don't really understand Waiters for the Thunder though. They already have Jeremy Lamb, who's actually better than Waiters. They also have Reggie Jackson, who's also better than Waiters. Why get someone who's not that good and redundant for your team?
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) I think soccer officials have have a really tough job, especially with the diving and judgement calls. Especially when FIFA tells you to favor certain teams.
  13. This is a solid signing given that he's used correctly. He should probably only start against left handed pitchers. I don't want to see him as our starting 2B opening day. That'd be completely missing the point.
  14. The Cowboys are choking again.
  15. I'm not sure how our defense has regressed this badly.
  16. Was at the game...total waste of $80. That was some of the worst basketball I've seen from this team in a long long time.
  17. I have both. I got the PS4 first and someone convinced me to get an XB1. The Xbox has a lot more to offer right now. Better exclusives at the moment and it's a nice media center since you can hook up your cable box to it. I barely play my PS4 right now because I'm playing a lot of FIFA on my Xbox. Both are good consoles, but I'd recommend the XB1 at the moment just based on how many more features you get out of the box.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:10 PM) Another under the radar stat: top 5 in the east has .600 winning pct against the top 5 of the west. I think the greatness of the west is a bit overstated. The West is still deeper. After the Cavs, every team in the East is under .500. The 8th seed in the West is 18-14.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) He's, right now, a top 10 player in the NBA. Derrick Rose is just "a guy" compared to Jimmy. Yet all anyone talks about (including my sig) is Rose. #3 in win shares. #6 in offensive rating (very rare for a SG who doesn't rely heavily on 3s). He's also pretty damn good on defense. He's the most complete player in the NBA not named Anthony Davis or LeBron James right now.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) Yeah. It looks like he's starting to trust his body again. I repeat. Please, God, don't f*** us. I was just thinking it would have been hilarious and extremely sad if he did a Stephen Tulloch/Lamarr Houston skipping down the court.
  21. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) He's actually shattering his career high in 2PT FG% by a good margin. He just need to keep building his confidence and attack the basket. Let the three point shot compliment his game instead of using it as his bread and butter. He's going back to shooting long 2s instead of 3s. Usually, that's a bad thing, but he's good at those 17-18 footers he used to shoot in his rookie and sophomore years. His 3's been awful this year...only hitting 28% of them.
  22. Another fun game to watch. We'll be the top seed in the East in a few weeks at this rate.
  23. When did Kyle Lowry get so good? I know he was good last year, but I didn't think he was this good...
  24. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) You get way more than you pay for. Screen issues seem to have been on their earlier builds. Other bugs seem to have been fixed with CM11. Rarely a good idea to be an early adopter/bug tester with any new tech product nowadays anyways. Like I said, I'm coming from an N5 (not impressed with lollipop) and moto x '13 and the OPO blows them away in build quality and user experience at a cheaper price. Also have messed with family and friends' m8, S5 (touchwiz is awful), G3, i6, and the OPO is on par or even better in some respects IMHO at half the price. Thankfully haven't had to deal with their customer service as the vast majority haven't. Worth the tiny risk IMHO You pay the same for the Nexus 5 and Google's customer service is pretty awesome. I had mine replaced when the power button died. I wanted the OPO when it first came out, but when OP decided that not everybody can buy one and screwed up their marketing quite a bit, my interest wore off. I was even given an invite by someone to get one and I didn't see any reason to. I paid the steep price of $690 for my Nexus 6 and it is the best Android phone I've ever used. Super smooth, good battery life, and a screen that's big enough to eat on. As long as you're ok with the form factor, it's probably the most complete Android phone.
  25. I'm going to win 3 leagues...what do those teams have in common? They all had Odell Beckham on them. All hail the great Odell Beckham! He's the reason I'm $250 richer.
