2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) So last week would have been good timing to beat a pregnant woman? I guess I see what he is trying to say, but come on now, especially as such a public spokesperson I think you're reading into it a bit much. Right after he said bad timing, he said wrong decision. He's clearly not endorsing people to beat their wives.

2014 Video game thread
I've never spent money on DLC or in-game purchases until I started playing Madden Ultimate Team this year. I had $10 lying around in my PSN wallet that I didn't know about, so I spent that on 7 packs. Then I had a $20 credit from Amex and bought a $20 PSN card from Amazon. So technically I haven't spent much of anything, but that's still $30 I just gave to EA.

Adam had one good year with us and it wasn't even that great honestly. It would have been nice to get some more out of him, but sometimes you just have to cut your losses.

8/31 vs Tigers
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Q finally gets a break. He's only got one more win and one less loss than Samardzija, who didn't win until late May. I think that says a lot about Jose's lack of luck.

I'm getting AT&T's gigabit internet once I move to my new apartment next week. Pretty excited. I have 50 mbps right now and I have trouble imagining something 20 times faster.

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 01:02 AM) Baserunning, sure. I'll give you that. But this PREMIUM DEFENSIVE POSITION REPLACEMENT LEVEL crap has to stop. Any player who can hit like Abreu holds tremendous value, I'd go so far as to say unequaled value. Abreu is the only player, regardless of position slugging above .600. Not only that, he's the only one even close. He's the only player in baseball that has even a remote chance of an OPS over 1.000. He leads MLB in wOBA and WRC+ too, lack of baserunning and all. It doesn't matter what position Abreu plays, he is cramming much more offense than anyone else in baseball into one spot in the lineup. There are plenty of teams that are not getting Abreu like production out of their 4 and 5 hitters combined (totally unverified claim). Don't give me the "well you see Trout plays center and the average center fielder can't hit near as well as the average first...", Abreu so far out classes what anyone in baseball does with the bat arguments over positional semantics are worthless. No, it can't. Because if you stick Abreu out in CF, he's going to cost you games. It takes a specific set of skills to play a good CF at the ML level. It takes a lot less to be a decent 1B. Also, when you take park factor into account, Trout actually has a higher wRC+ than Abreu despite having a slightly lower wOBA. So basically, Abreu = Trout offensively and Trout >>> Abreu in everything else. And you're telling everyone here that we're arguing about worthless semantics...lol.

2015 Offseason
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 01:43 AM) A thread about the off season ahead the upcoming 2015 season. We already have a report that Victor Martinez is the team's top target, and the team must rebuild the bullpen. So what do you want accomplished this off season? I don't want us signing old players coming off career years (like Victor Martinez).

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) Both players are having legit MVP quality seasons, but the reason that Trout is going to rightfully win it is because the Angels are in 1st place with a 80-53 record and the Sox are in 4th place with a 60-73 record. If the records were flip flopped Abreu would have a much better shot and probably win it. They're about equal offensively, but when you take defense and base-running into account, Trout is way better. That's the objective way of looking at it. However, the voters don't always look at it that way and I have to assume that if the roles were reversed, Abreu would be a much bigger threat.

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Trout still was the better player last year. Yeah, but I found it more justified than when Cabrera won it the year before. Trout actually out-hit Cabrera in 2012, he didn't last year.

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (shysocks @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) I don't think we have to worry because this is probably his year. The Angels will make the playoffs and that'll be that. Although it would be extra hilarious if writers fall so in love with the KC story that they give it to Alex Gordon, with defensive metrics as the justification. I don't expect a bunch of old people to take defensive metrics seriously. Even I can't take his UZR this year all that seriously. I mean, Gordon's a good LFer, but not +25 runs good.

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 06:34 AM) The only reason Trout didn't win in 2012 and 2013 was because his team missed the playoffs. Now that his team has the best record in baseball, I would say he is a lock to win it this year. He didn't win last year cause Cabrera had one of the best offensive seasons in the past 10 years and Cabrera won the triple crown the year before. It didn't have much of anything to do with making the playoffs, it had everything to do with Cabrera putting up offensive numbers the voters couldn't turn down. I didn't agree with Cabrera winning it in 2012, but I can't fault the voters for voting for him since he won the Triple Crown. I didn't mind him winning it last year even though Trout out-WAR'd him by quite a bit.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) My guess is they keep: Marshall, Jeffery, Wilson, Holmes, Morgan, and Spurlock. With 10 practice squad spots they will hope to slide Chris Williams and Josh Bellamy through waivers and keep them both. Easier said than done though. Are they actually going to use Holmes at PR if they don't keep Williams? Holmes returned punts yesterday and looked pretty good.

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) Trout just doesn't have the bat. I went Felix. .950 OPS isn't good enough huh?

Who would you vote for AL MVP?
Mike Trout and it's really not all that close IMO. Cabrera's been awful for his standards this year. Gordon's second in the AL in WAR, but half of that is from his defense (I don't buy it). Cano, Donaldson, Seager, and Abreu are also candidates, but I don't think they can really be fairly compared to Trout.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
I joined a 10 team public league on Yahoo just for fun. Those leagues are no real fun. Way too many good players left on the free agent market. My bench is absolutely stacked. There's 3 guys who would have been starters in a 12 team league on my bench (Spiller, Decker, Kaepernick).

They definitely made ultimate team a lot harder this year. I have one guy whose rating is over 80 right now and I've opened like 8 packs (one pro pack, a bunch from other stuff). I remember playing it last year and getting AP off the bat.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) Yikes, out for the year....This only makes the decision a little harder. From a talent standpoint Vereen>>>Stacy IMO, but you're right, with Bradford hurt again they could pound the rock a ton. I'm torn here. I guess if I was in your position, and it was a PPR I'd do it. Fitz for Maclin pushes me over the edge. I already offered the trade, let's see what happens. Vereen averaged 4.7 YPC last year, not bad at all. I have some confidence that he'll at least get 30-40 yards per game on the ground if he gets rush attempts. I also have Ridley on my bench, so in case one fails, I have the other.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) That's a tough one. If Ridley continues to have fumblitis and Vereen takes the majority of the carries it's a no brainer. I think I'd do it in a PPR league but I'd be real hesitant about it. Bradford is hurt again...so they may run the ball a lot this year as well.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) I usually don't pay too much attention, and just follow the buzz, but Ourlads seemingly stays up to date on things. As for Stacy....IMO, he's the most overrated RB in the league. Averaged just 3.9 YPC last year(31st in the league) and his numbers only looked good because the Rams QB Kellen Clemons and they were "forced" to run the ball a ton. Stacy was 11th in the league in carries despite only being the starter for 12 games(Only 4 carries before he started starting)....I can't imagine that volume of carries continues with Cunningham and 3rd round pick Tre Mason around as well. Would you do a Stacy/Maclin for Fitzgerald/Vereen swap?

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
So Zac Stacy didn't start for St. Louis in the last pre-season game...is that troubling? I just drafted Stacy today and I'm already afraid I made the wrong pick. Stacy's been bad in pre-season and Cunningham has been really good. Outside of that, I like my team a lot. I'm in 0.5 PPR with a flex, 12 teams. QB Foles WR Nelson WR Crabtree RB Charles RB Stacy TE Olsen W/R Maclin DEF Denver K Walsh Bench: E. Sanders, Ridley, Boldin, McCown, McFadden I really like my depth at WR.
