  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 06:17 PM) This Phil Humber s*** gets more awesome by the nanosecond. His stuff wasn't even good today, but he got out of trouble when he needed to.
  2. Darrin Jackson called for a DP and a pop up on the radio. He can see the future today.
  3. Missed it by that much...
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Michael Jordan My Dearest Laquette How are you and your family doing, fine I hope. I am in my Adv. Chemistry class writing you a letter, so that tell you how much I care for you. I decide to write you because I felt that I made you look pretty rotten after the last night. I want to tell you that I am sorry, and hope that you except my apologie. I know that you feelings was hurt whenever I loss my necklace or had it stolen. I was really happy when you gave me my honest coin money that I won off the bet. I want to thank you for letting me hold your annual. I show it to everyone at school. Everyone think you are a very pretty young lady and I had to agree because it is very true. Please don't let this go to your head. (smile) I sorry to say that I can't go to the game on my birthday because my father is taking the whole basketball team out to eat on my birthday. Please don't be mad because I am trying get down there a week from Feb. 14. If I do get the chance to come please have some activity for us to do together. I want you to know that my feeling for you has not change yet. ← (joke) I am finally getting use to going with a girl much smaller than I. I hope you my hint. Well I have spent my time very wisely by write to you. I hope you write back soon. Well I must go, the period is almost over. See you next time around, which I hope comes soon. With my Best Love Michael J. Jordan http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont...?urn=nba-wp5843 Michael speak learned good. So MJ was in advanced chemistry, but never AP English. Big deal.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) No idea what the bolded means... but with similar offenses results-wise, it comes down to pitching (hugely in favor of the Sox) and defense (somewhat in favor of the Sox). So let's play like the better team and win at least two. Offense has been down this year. The Sox have a .314 wOBA. The Cubs have a .318 wOBA. In any previous year in the past two decades (except maybe last year and 1992), those would be in the bottom 33% of the league. But this year, since offense is down, it's right about average.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) 106 ABs. I know its not an exact science and that would be like counting Lilli's .846 OPS in a similar amount of at-bats. I was just showing that their lineup has probably been better hitting than ours. Perhaps. But the Cubs only lead the Sox in wOBA by a mere 4 points. They also have the same wRC+ (park adjusted wOBA basically). These teams are both very mediocre at hitting and scoring this year. But if it were any other year, both would suck hard.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) I heard Michael Kaye on the radio this morning and TWICE he mentioned that the Yankees would be looking to add a starter "like a King Felix" before the deadline. Is Felix even available? The fact that he said it 2x made me wonder. The Mariners are in contention, if you haven't noticed. So that's a big no. It would have been a big no even if the Mariners sucked.
  8. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Yeah, seriously the Cubs can hit. It's the defense and bullpen that is their undoing. The Cubs have scored 2 more runs than the Sox this year. They've both played 82 games.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Looking at the OPSs of both teams, one would think the Cubs would have won 6 more games than the Sox, not vice versa. And this doesn't include Adam Dunn's sparkling .619. Pierre lf - .626 Morel 3b - .564 Quentin rf - .886 Konerko 1b - .970 AJ c - .723 Ramirez ss - .757 Rios cf - .594 Beckham 2b - .653 AVERAGE OPS - .722 Fukudome rf - .761 Barney 2b - .676 Castro ss - .778 Ramirez 3b - .797 Pena 1b - .806 Soriano lf - .818 Johnson cf - .940 Soto c - .745 AVERAGE OPS - .790 I'm not sure it's right to just average all the OPS numbers from each team. Reed Johnson has a .940 OPS in how many PAs?
  10. WE MUST SWEEEEEEEEP!
  11. Cowley really outta be fired one of these days for misconduct. He's just a troll working for a newspaper...
  12. The Sox could be on an 8 game winning streak if they had any semblance of a consistent offense that can get runners in from third with less than two outs on a regular basis. *Sigh.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) He earned it today? He earned it when Florida won a ring in 2003. That love was not everlasting.
  14. Sweep the Cubs and it's back to above .500. This team is such a tease.
  15. Juan Pierre just earned himself Ozzie's everlasting love with his game today. Good to finally win one in extras.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) What is he making this year? Too much money for the Sox to take on.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) Hudson is actually 8th overall in pitcher WAR. Ahead of the likes of David Price, Felix Hernandez and Timothy Lincecum. Think it's safe to say the guy is legit and there was a gross miscalculation of his abilities by our people. And by Keith Law. I saw Hudson as a #2 or #3 starter. I loved his change-up.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Pretty much every team has played at least 81 games. So here we go: AL MVP: Adrian Gonzalez -.356/.410/.601/1.011 - 4.4 WAR (you could just as easily make a case for Miggy). AL CY: Justin Verlander - 10-3, 2.38 ERA, 2.83 FIP, 8.67 K/9, 3.5 WAR (Weaver is my runner-up). AL ROY: Michael Pineda - 7-5, 2.65 ERA, 3.08 FIP, 8.74 K/9, 2.2 WAR (there's nobody else close at the moment). AL MOY: Joe Maddon. Not much has to be said here. AL CPOY: Josh Beckett. Though a good case could be made for James Shields. NL MVP: Jose Reyes -.349/.393/.525/.918 - 5.1 WAR (Matt Kemp is my runner-up). NL CY: Roy Halladay. No numbers necessary. The guy is just really, really good at getting guys out. NL ROY: Craig Kimbrel - 23 saves, 2.63 ERA, 1.48 FIP, 14.27 K/9 (that's not a typo). He's been simply the best closer in baseball. If Brandon Beachy hadn't gotten hurt, he'd probably be my favorite. Damn I hate the Braves so very much. NL MOY: Bruce Bochy. Team continues to overachieve despite a less than impressive roster sans the rotation and a season-ending injury to their best player (Kirk Gibson is my runner-up). NL CPOY: Berkman, Lance. The end. Edit: Meant to put this in the DC. Feel free to move if necessary. No Bautista?
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Bar graphs, really? Seriously, when did Steve pull out the analytic stuff? Kalapse barely does that!
  20. So Rios has one bad game and he gets benched? He has to be hurt.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) I don't really consider PER a true efficiency stat. chw42 has gone on about it in this thread before, it's simply a very flawed stat. But sure, even using that, there isn't a significant difference between Smith and Richardson, which was my point in the first place. aka hypocritical That it is. PER actually favors shot chucking at times.
  22. Hey, if the Cubs can beat them, so can we!
  23. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) TS% 2010-11: Richardson .555, Smith .550 2009-10: Richardson .574, Smith .515 2008-09: Richardson .571, Smith .576 2007-08: Richardson .554, Smith .603 2006-07: Richardson .512, Smith .585 Points Per Shot 2010-11: Richardson 1.18, Smith 1.24 2009-10: Richardson 1.24, Smith 1.12 2008-09: Richardson 1.24, Smith 1.30 2007-08: Richardson 1.22, Smith 1.35 2006-07: Richardson 1.11, Smith 1.27 Remind me again how one of these players is incredibly inefficient and the other is an awful chucker? ESPECIALLY when you factor in their age? Steve has literally no idea what he's talking about here. I never said Steve was right. I was just pointing out that Richardson's been better than what his career TS% indicates in the past few years.
  24. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) CAREER TS%: Jason Richardson - .531 J.R. Smith - .547 CAREER PPS: Jason Richardson - 1.17 J.R. Smith - 1.21 Richardson's been a pretty good shooter since he left Golden State though. His TS% has never dipped below .554 since he left the Warriors.
