Jon Garland has cleared waivers according to FoxSports
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Garland would be a good 5th starter if Coop could get him back to form. If not, eh, I won't cry over him. Though he'd need a new number. 52 and 20 are all taken...lol. Maybe he can go with like...54?

Garland's just bad now. He has a medicore ERA in the NL, so eh... Although he would be a solid 5 starter.

Washburn vs. his former team on MLBN
Seattle's bullpen really sucked in this series and they have one of the best bullpen ERAs in baseball too...
-
Washburn vs. his former team on MLBN
Washburn's been terrible. He's given up 17 ER now in 4 starts. He only pitched well against the Royals. He's been especially prone to the home run, which doesn't make that much sense since Comerica is bigger than Safeco.

Should be a good game.

GAMETHREAD:Chicago White Sox(61-59) vs Kansas City Royals(47-72) 1:05
Jenks got by while throwing in the low to mid 90s. He usually sucks when he can't throw 95 consistently.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) Cardinals nab John Smoltz. This can only help them, with their 5th starters. At worst they put him as the long guy out of the pen. With how bad he was in Boston, I'm not so sure. But hell, why not? He might be better than Mitchell Boggs and Todd Wellemeyer.

Great outing from Jose. He should start wearing the high socks from now on. It's working. Props to Rios on having his first homer as a White Sox.

The Sox are actually 61-59, not 60-58. Looks like the thread caption needs some changing.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) White Sox had the #15 pick, and took Lance Broadway. Cesar ended up going three picks later to San Diego. Brian Bogusevic, out of De La Salle HS in Chicago, also went in the first round at #24 to Houston. Matt Garza, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Colby Rasmus were all taken after the Sox's pick of Broadway. Ugh. How do you pass on a guy who throws 97 and take one who throws 89 instead?

2009 Cubs thread
Cubs are three outs away from losing a series to the Padres... If the Cardinals find a way to come back, they can pretty much bury the Cubs in the dirt. With the Dodgers coming up this weekend, the Cubs could find themselves 8-9 games out by Monday.

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) I wonder if Moore would do a swap; fields + for Gordon. I would vote for Kenny for the baseball hall of fame if he pulls that off.

Freddy made 3-4 bad pitches tonight. He paid for it though. Meche made a bunch of bad pitches. He didn't pay enough.

Favre Signing with Vikings today
I'm so tired of this crap. Favre's basically doing hit and runs with teams that are desperate at QB these past two years. "Hey look, there's a team without a QB, I'll go there, screw it up, and then ditch them for another team that needs a QB by retiring and then coming out of retirement in the off-season." He's become a whore.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) I was just reading the box score of the Twins/Indians game, and I noticed this: Alexei has been dreadfully inconsistent(key word dreadful), but it doesnt seem like KW downgraded the position over the offseason. He just did not upgrade it. He definitely has not. Orlando Cabrera has been utter crap on defense. His UZR's one of the worst among all SS.
