Yeah that deal has been haunting Preller for years. They've been trying to get rid of Hosmer for a while now. Everyone thought they overpaid when they signed him and it turns out they were right.

The Sox aren't cheap, they're just terrible at spending money. Part of the problem is JR's unwillingness to give out huge contracts. They're too risk-averse when it comes to premium players.
