I gotta say if this deal doesn't hype that clubhouse up, nothing will.

Kimbrel made some adjustments in ST to get him back to this version of himself. He's always had good velocity, even when he was terrible. As long as he doesn't forget how to throw strikes he'll continue to be this version of himself until age catches up.

I mean if you put it this way, for 2022, probably not. Madrigal is probably a 4 win player max next year. Hernandez is probably a 2 or 3 win player.

Similar value? Doubtful. Madrigal was a top 40 prospect and you can argue his results in the Majors increased his value. Hell FanGraphs had him in the top 40 for trade value in all of MLB. Only 2 of top 40 prospects have been traded this deadline and both were for SPs and position players.

On one hand: incredible bullpen and we probably won't lose a lead after the 7th again. This is also a statement acquisition by a franchise, that quite frankly, usually doesn't play ball with the big boys. On the other hand: everyone else thinks we overpaid (we did) and we're being incredibly financially irresponsible. If Jerry is willing to go with $175 million payrolls, I wouldn't have as many issues with this. But unless we win the WS, I doubt we'll go that high.

I really soured on Madrigal until he started hitting for power before he got hurt. He's still not that fast and probably a little limited at 2B defensively, but his hit tool was amazing. Had we gotten Bryant along with Kimbrel I would have loved this trade. For Kimbrel alone, I think it makes us legit favorites this year in the AL, but we probably had to overpay to really wow the Cubs and get this done.

Might as well go all-in.

On Spotrac it says it's a vesting/club option. I saw someone else say it turns into a club option in case it doesn't vest.
