I really soured on Madrigal until he started hitting for power before he got hurt. He's still not that fast and probably a little limited at 2B defensively, but his hit tool was amazing. Had we gotten Bryant along with Kimbrel I would have loved this trade. For Kimbrel alone, I think it makes us legit favorites this year in the AL, but we probably had to overpay to really wow the Cubs and get this done.

Might as well go all-in.

On Spotrac it says it's a vesting/club option. I saw someone else say it turns into a club option in case it doesn't vest.

Yeah this is the biggest issue. Everyone's trying to get a 3 win closer like Kimbrel. He has no real surplus value if you only care about money. But the teams after him kind of don't, they're after wins. If money and surplus was all teams cared about, a Burger+ for Kimbrel swap would be pretty fair. But his market is probably way beyond that right now.

I think if you want both you have to include Crochet.

We'd also be dedicating $30 million+ to 2 guys who will maybe throw 150 innings combined. Meanwhile we have a giant hole in RF. It would honestly be an irresponsible use of whatever limited money we have to spend. Maybe we end up trading him in the off-season though, that's always an option.

I agree. Will cost less, probably won't take the closer job from Hendriks. Liam seems like the kind of guy who would feel disrespected if they made a move for a guy to take his job from him. Maybe that'll make him pitch better...or worse. Who knows?

If the Sox get Kimbrel, does he become the closer? I love Liam but Kimbrel has straight up been better this year.
