So the Bears get screwed in all of this because the Falcons decided to create a position out of thin air less than a month ago and gave it to a guy with no front office experience. He's even said he won't be managing personnel. What's to stop the Bears from creating random positions above the general manager, promoting Poles to it, and then poaching some assistant GM from the Packers or Lions to be the new GM? It would technically be a promotion and we wouldn't be giving our rivals any picks. It's a terrible loop hole and a bad precedent to set. It totally goes against the spirit of the rule in the first place.

I think the sentiment at the time, especially after their 2 straight losses to end the year, was that Darnold was just not good enough in big games and reverted to his old self when put under pressure. And that rang true even this year until their playoff games. That win against the Rams in the last few weeks of the season turned around Darnold's season. I don't know if they were necessarily wrong to give the keys to McCarthy. If they really believed in the guy, they weren't gonna let him just sit under Darnold for multiple years. They did offer to keep Darnold on a short term deal at around the same AAV that the Seahawks offered him. But if you're Darnold, why would you stay for less guaranteed money and have a guy behind you constantly threatening your job? Obviously, it didn't work out for the Vikings. But I think their issue was more that they didn't have a true backup plan to McCarthy going to s%*# or getting hurt. Carson Wentz is not a viable backup to a guy who didn't play a lot of snaps in college and is coming off a knee injury.

To be fair, they didn't know that Darnold was gonna do that last year when they drafted McCarthy.

Wagler really helped his NBA draft stock. 46 points against a team like Purdue is insane.

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
This is definitely better than praying someone can get 3 outs in the 9th. If he doesn't work out at closer, you can always go back to Taylor. I think Dominguez works best as a setup guy, but I'm just glad the Sox actually spent some money on fixing the bullpen with this and the Newcomb signings.

One of them might be. The other guy is in A ball.

Because they would have had to pay him $2 million if they didn't pick it up. With this, you pay nothing and you get a couple of bad lottery tickets back.

I actually had Luisangel on my fantasy team at the end of 2024. He was legit good for like 2 weeks.

We still have Quero and Vargas.

Safe to say that the Hahn method of signing guys to guaranteed money contracts with option years before they played in the majors did not work out...at all. It does not pay to be cheap asses.

Yeah but did you see his 14 games in 2024? He practically looked like Ronald Acuna.

If they sent no money at all, then that explains why the return is so bad. But when your payroll is as low as ours, the money doesn't really matter and you'd rather get something more useful back than a utility player and a 12th round pitcher.

I think they spent that on Murakami.

His swing looks just like his brother's. He just doesn't have his brother's build or athleticism.

I didn't understand the need to go for a 1v1 50/50 ball from Beck there. There's plenty of time left.

I thought that losing wouldn't hurt after last week, but the fact they had a miracle play to tie it and were 15 yards away from possibly winning it in OT stings a lot. This really felt like a special team with how they came back in games. I think the future is bright for the team, but we might never experience the level of magic this team had again.

My thoughts exactly. If we can somehow get a 3rd for DJ, Poles should do it. It saves us about 16.5 million in cap space. The WR free agency class is pretty weak outside of Pickens. But he's probably gonna get franchise tagged. The draft isn't loaded at WR either, especially at where the Bills pick. The top 3 guys are probably all gone by the time the Bills pick in the 20s.

If they trade him, the dead cap hit is only about 12 million, making a savings of 16.5 million. I have to imagine it would be hard for anyone to give much in return for him though. You're probably getting a 4th rounder with how much guaranteed money is left on his contract.
