This is a solid guess. Sox have drafted Ian Hamilton and Will Kincanon overslot in the 11th round the last two years. Zach Hess from LSU could be another option.

It does lower the bonus pool. If you don't sign the 7th rounder, you lose the ability to spend the slot value associated with 7th pick.

I'd go HS SS Jonathan Ornelas, Mississippi State LHP Konnor Pilkington or Iowa CC lefty Brandon Williamson.

Hostetler has included Schnell in his group of guys being considered at #4 though unless he's lying which could be true. Mayo specifically said that he's a Plan B at #4. Why are we doubting that information? I don't just assume that he's wrong because it's not my ideal outcome.

That's fine and it could be true. It could also be scouts of teams in the comp round trying to push him down the board.

I think you may have to guarantee Schnell close to $3 million to slide him to #46. If they do that and pay $6.4 million for #4, they only have like a little over $1 million for rounds 3-10. I think he's going in the late first or comp round easily. You'll have to overpay that price to get him later. I don't see it.

I just don't see any way in which they can slide Nick Schnell to #46. Someone will take him before that and the White Sox won't have enough savings on #4 to make a deal with him. If they "have to have" Nick Schnell then they need to underslot him at #4 in my opinion. Hostetler has alluded to him for the last month though. Hostetler has been saying 6-7 guys in their "mix at #4" and one additional guy in the north that they just started to get a look at. That was like 4 weeks ago. Everyone assumed that he meant Jarred Kelenic. He actually meant Nick Schnell. Now, he could be 100% lying that Schnell is actually in the mix but if he's being honest then he's an option. Even Mayo said he's a backup plan. I think there's a scenario where it's an option though. Lets say the Sox really love Mize, Singer and Madrigal and would take any of the 3. It's conceivable that all 3 could be gone when they pick. In that case, they may believe that giving Schnell something in the $3-$3.5 million range and saving $7 million is a better use of resources than paying Bohm, Bart, Swaggerty etc the full $6.4 million slot. I think something like that is the only way though. I still think Singer is the pick if available.

This is a bit harsh. He's a friend so I'm biased but this is all kinds of ridiculous.

Totally agree. That isn't close to enough. I would have no interest in Riley Pint anymore. McMahon plus two guys and their Competitive Balance pick and we can talk about it.

I am one that generally likes to sap as much value as I can out of every player. Ask iamshack about it. He hates it. With that being said, leaving Kopech and Jimenez in the minors until next April is insane and there's almost zero chance it happens. Those guys will be ready soon if they aren't already and it serves no purpose to leave them down there longer to suck another year of control out of them. It sets a really bad precedent in this case in my opinion.

It happens all the time. I don't know who the exact player would be but it happens. If the Sox paid Schnell say $3.5 million, they'd still have $7 million in their pool for rounds 2-10. The possibilities are endless.

I think and have thought that Brady Singer is their guy. If Mize, Madrigal and Singer are somehow off the board though or if they don't want Madrigal, I could be talked into Nick Schnell at #4. If he were willing to take $3.5 million to be the #4 pick, I'd consider it. That gives them $3 million to play with. You could theoretically sign the 2nd and 3rd rounder for over $2 million a piece or really splurge at #46 and pay someone like $4 million. It's an interesting way to maybe get two top 30 talents instead of a top guy that you might not love anyway.

McClanahan will go in the top 10 somewhere still. Throws hard. Was inconsistent.

Probably. I like India. Good track record for SEC 3B. Only one year of really great production though.

MLBpipeline is very lenient with their grades and they have him with a 40 power tool. Keith Law has him with 20 power and relegated to 2B. Doesn't mean Keith is correct but in general, he's pretty solid with position player scouting. He has Madrigal as #11 in the class overall. He's not a fan of Singer either though

This is your opinion. He might be. Madrigal can really hit. If he's a 2B with 20 power though I think there's an argument to be made.

I don't really understand much of the negative reaction to Brady Singer in here. If that's who they choose, I'm totally fine with it. I've seen Fulmer mentioned in here in comparison. Those guys aren't similar at all. Fulmer didn't even throw strikes in college. Singer doesn't walk people and has ideal 6'5 frame and could likely get to 200 pounds or so. 65 FB with tons of life and movement, really good slider graded as plus as well. Needs to work on 3rd pitch. Some reliever risk I guess because of the delivery but I think he's a starter. He could also be in the big league rotation at some point in 2019. I think the pick is going to be one of Singer or Madrigal at this point and I also think we should be happy with either.

You left out a huge part though. He said that the other player sat by himself sulking and brushed off and ignored his teammates. Singer isn't that guy.

This is all totally dependent on what type of contract he wants. Carlos Santana just signed a 3/60 deal in off-season. Abreu is better than him though. Jose is the best 1B in the AL. Some thing that trading him would be crazy. I think it's crazy to not do something. If they plan on keeping him, then I'd be fine with that but until I hear about extension talks, I'm going to assume they will trade him. On the other hand, if they are going to trade him, it should be done at this year's deadline with 1.5 years of control. Should be an interesting situation.
