Sox claim Jerry Sands
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) That 103 OPS+ was in 227 ABs, and five years ago. So if I am going to hear about sample size, I would give more respect to a current sample versus one half a decade old. You aren't looking at his numbers specifically vs LHP though. You are looking at entire seasons which doesn't really make sense. Sands taking LaRoche's at-bats vs LHP wouldn't be terrible thing. That's all anyone is saying.

Sox claim Jerry Sands
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) He put up a .236 .286 .390 .676 slash line, for an 80 OPS+, at the major league level in 2015. He only had 133 plate appearances though. He has been really good vs LHP in his career. 130 wRC+

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) That was said today? Yes. I need to find it. May have been Kane or Santos

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) This is fine, of course. But I pray that this isn't what Hahn/media have been referring to as "another move possible." One of the beat writers tweeted that Hahn emphasized that he may have " one more move left in him" prior to opening day.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
Last season, Rollins had a wRC+ of 114 vs LHP as RHB. Only hit 2 homers though. He was worse as a LHB vs RHP but did hit 11 homers.

White Sox sign Jimmy Rollins
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Though I will say if Rollins is the starter, Saladino makes a much better utility guy. This was my thought as well. If Rollins can start, Saladino makes a nice utility guy. Does Carlos Sanchez have any value? Sanchez/Petricka get a decent OF or probably not?

ESPN's Keith Law's White Sox top 10 List
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) I knew you would jump in NorthSide . That is a great point that many relievers have the ability to throw upper 90's but with detriment to their command. It may be likely that the White Sox re-tool him and he instead will become a 95-97 type guy. My point is you can't teach velocity and reining a guy like Kahnle has some exciting possibilities than aren't available to most other pitchers. Tommy Kahnle is one of the reasons why I thought a guy like Petricka would be used to get an OF

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) Yadiel Hernandez's showcase is tomorrow. I am really interested to see if the Sox will be in attendance. Does Hernandez count against the bonus pool or is he a regular free agent?

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 06:56 PM) Jackson can play all 3 outfield spots. he also gives the Sox the ability to hide Laroche from left handed pitching. I guess they want to see what they have with Sands and a couple of others. I think it says that Boras still wants too much $$ for Jackson.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) Over the last two seasons: Player A: .261/.358/.401/.759 Player B: .266/.348/.393/.741 Player A is Dexter Fowler, Player B is Brandon Guyer. Rays have Morrison/Pearce/Pena/Dickerson/Kiermaier/Jennings/Mahtook/Souza Jr./Jennings/Guyer for DH, 1B and the three outfield spots. That's ten guys for five spots. They have to move a few guys. Guyer gives the Sox a pre-arb outfielder who can play good defense at all positions. He's a luxury as a 4th outfielder and a strong insurance option for Avi. He's a grinder too, hah. vs. RHP L CF Eaton S LF Cabrera R 1B Abreu R 3B Frazier L DH LaRoche R 2B Lawrie R RF Garcia/Guyer L C Navila R SS Saladino vs. LHP L CF Eaton R RF Guyer R 1B Abreu R 3B Frazier S LF Cabrera R DH Garcia R 2B Lawrie R C Navarro R SS Saladino Guyer would be a nice addition. Coghlan is a guy that I've talked about a lot too. In a perfect world, you could nab Guyer and Coghlan. Probably not realistic at all though and would potentially cause some bench issues with LaRoche and Garcia rostered as well.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 07:07 AM) Blackhawks/Cubs 1, 1A 3) Bears 4) Bulls 5) White Sox White Sox have a much better chance than the Bulls. Bulls are in basketball hell. They can't get out of the East and if they could they can't best the Warriors/Thunder/Spurs anyway. If the Sox get in the playoffs, they can win the whole damn thing with their pitching.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) The Bears have done nothing to prove otherwise. The Sox and Bulls have legitimate stars on their teams. This is nuts. The Bears play in the sports where it's the easiest to get better. They also have a coach that has proven that he can develop talent in multiple stops. The Bears are in good hands and trending upward.

Ian Desmond Signs 1 Year 8M Deal with Rangers
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) Levine says that the Sox didn't think Desmond was a fit due to his K rate and defense http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/02/18/lev...hahn-white-sox/ Well if they didn't like Desmond's defense, they probably aren't interested in Fowler either.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Well, I disagree. The White Sox had a chance to exceed that offer and did not, and I've seen nothing that indicates our offer was better than Kansas City. I am sure Gordon did want to stay in KC, but offering him a better deal to play with you (your "could help it" scenario) I am confident would have swayed him. I bet the Sox offered 4 years at decent $$. No reason for KC to give a 4 year deal and 5th year option if Sox hardlined at 3 years.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Pau may just be playing us. He seemed dead set on leaving until reports from today. I still think he leaves for another team Absolutely. I think Gasol leaves in the offseason and someone gives him like 3/60. Hopefully not the Bulls.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I'm not really sure there is a way to cut this where the Sox FO has done a smart job this offseason. If they knew they were limited, trying to compete was probably a stupid idea. They know the market next year & know where they stand right now & while they may be in the "mix", why not better your odds if you're going for it? This offseason has once again shown me that the leadership with this team has no real direction. What I will say is, if this blows up in their face, we better be seeing either KW ousted, or RH & Ventura gone. I actually think they can win the division with the team they have.

It sounds like Philadelphia wouldn't cooperate with the King/Bulls. I thought that might be a problem. Sacramento is stupid.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) right, and "Bulls trade Gasol to avoid luxury tax penalty" isn't really making me tingle all over. That's not why they'd do it. They'd do it to acquire Mclemore and a potential lottery pick.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...213-column.html Basically, the Orioles are/were in the same situation the White Sox are in...although the key difference is they have the best record in the AL over the past four years. By bringing back Davis, Wieters, O'Day and now looking to add two more big pieces in addition to Trumbo and Kim...they're also sending a huge signal to Machado in terms of signing him to a huge extension. Payroll for the O's would be around $150 million, pretty close to where the White Sox would have been adding Fowler and Desmond. Their pitching blows though and their system is bad.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 08:00 AM) If it's that certain that Gasol is opting out after the season, then we wouldn't be able to get someone as good as Gallinari. Gasol is opting out.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) draft picks or not, the point is to finish this job of fixing this team. the statement of the owners want another WS ..... at what point is the value of that statement, unless it is about "as long as it in the the sox budget" It's not the owners. They could sign Fowler if they wanted to. Rick Hahn would rather have 3 top 50 draft picks and $9 million to spread around the draft. You can think that's a dumb decision but it's not a budget question in this case.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 07:29 AM) The only silver lining I can find with this is that he isn't going back to the Cubs, thus making them weaker. Why do you care about that? Him leaving actually helps them. They get their 2nd round pick back and receive a bigger bonus pool.
