If they are committed to giving up the draft pick, I'd rather have Desmond than Fowler. Desmond is more likely to be a 3 WAR SS than Fowler is to be a 2-3 WAR OF in my opinion. Sox could still add a different OF via trade as well. They would have a pretty powerful infield with Frazier/Desmond/Lawrie/Abreu

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) Nerlens Noel is the guy I wanted all along. I don't think Noel is a good fit next to Okafor, and if Embiid comes back next year, they'd have a logjam of poor spacing. I wonder if Noel could be had for Niko + first rounder. Noel would be a good fit next to Gasol and Portis. Gasol is going to be gone though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Butler and Noah developed into stars under Thibs. They might have developed into stars if Hoiberg coached the last 5 years, we obviously will never know. Mirotic's regressing though, and he was one guy they assumed would blossom away from Thibs, is depressing. Would the rent a point guard have worked under any other coach? Noah was never a star. Worst DPOY in league history.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Gar wanted us to believe they stopped listening to Thibs last year, but I don't believe that for a second. As far as I can tell, they haven't ever even started listening to Fred. By the way, I do agree, that injuries have played a pretty critical role in this losing streak. Wilbon was on about a day ago saying the roster isn't near as bad as the record and other teams feel Bulls roster is talented. But he went on to say we have major leadership issues (and ultimately I also think we have major coaching issues to go along with the injuries). Butler MJD Mirotic Noah Plus: Some games missed by Rose, Pau, Hinrich, Aaron Brooks. They also don't have any dogs on that team. They really have no leaders that take over a lockerroom and decide how things are going to go. Derrick can't speak. Pau chooses not to. Everyone laughed when Butler attempted to try. Noah is gone and nobody else matters.

I doubt Mirotic or McDermott did either. Guys didn't exactly clamor for him to stay.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/...0-prospects-mlb Law has Tim Anderson at #45. These are some notes: Came to baseball late, already having success at AA is a testament to outsized athletic abilities. Law asks if he's an 8-9 hole hitter or top of the order bat. Plus-Plus runner, good actions at SS. Magallanes really helped him in this regard. Overly aggressive approach and poor pitch recognition. Law says that the player Anderson is now is a big leaguer that projects as bottom of order bat that hits .280 with low OBP, Above average defense at SS and a ton of stolen bases. Law says Anderson has the potential to be "so much more" if he develops any plan at the plate. Says he needs another year in the minor leagues.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) If Biden entered tomorrow, would he win? Probably not but if Obama could run again he'd win rather easily.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) That wouldn't be bad. I would like all non playoff 1st rounders protected. I think this makes the most sense.

I just hate that Fowler doesn't do anything to improve the OF defense. If he were a good defender, I'd be fine with it.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Those clamoring about the pick and mention Spencer Adams. Keon Barnum was picked around the same time Adams was too. This pick is 20 spots higher than Barnum

Keith Law releases annually farm system rankings

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Why does Law not like Fulmer? He thinks he's a reliever long-term. Many scouts do. Law thought the same of Sale and some other funky delivery types. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) What's funny is the Sox system was #12 last year, and people STILL insisted the Sox had an atrocious farm system. Imagine where we would have been ranked had we not traded our #3, #4, #5 potentially in the Frazier deal. Probably top 15. Maybe not though. Law hated Montas and thought TT was a 4th OF. He was high on Micah though. -
I'm going with Cory and Mitch tonight in the final

I'm actually surprised Keith had them that high. He's not a fan of Fulmer which is evident with the Sox having only 1 top 100 guy. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) That is not bad. I would have guessed 25-28 Tim Anderson is the only guy in Law's top 100 from the Sox system. HE HATES THE WHITE SOX!!!!! -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) If the Sox can pick up Desmond/Fowler on a 3 year (or less deal) with an AAV around 11 this offseason would have to be considered outstanding. Replace black holes at 3B/2B & SS/RF with three ~2 WAR+ players. Add an incredible value to the rotation and insulate from injury. Lose nothing from the pen and add a couple arms for more depth. Get a more offensively exciting catching position. Catcher = call it even First Base = same Second Base = good improvement Third Base = huge improvement Shortstop = either improvement because it can't get worse from '15 or big improvement in Desmond Left Field = same Center Field = same Right Field = Same or good improvement DH = Same, can't get worse SP1 = same SP2 = same SP3 = I'll call Rodon even to Samardzija but could go either way SP4 = improved SP5 = same Depth = better Bullpen = Everyone is back, Jones/Albers healthy + more depth in Kahnle, Aunmont, Lamb, etc. Is there one position they got worse at? Potentially catcher. That's it. The team lost Montas, Thompson, prospect depth and their payroll was raised just above the extent of salary inflation in average. This is a good offseason. Finish it. Stop making sense.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) You should tweet that to him and see what he says. Zawaski is pretty good about hockey discussion and will admit when he is wrong and correct himself Oh yeah I know. That is his fixed column that I tweeted. They dropped one originally that had the cap numbers wrong. He fixed it and rewrote the article.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) If he pitches 200 innings again, and gives us in the same 4.50 to 4.70 range, that is fine for the back of the rotation. He's just not good though. I think since this is the last year on the team, they may actually DFA him at some point if he's terrible or use him out of the bullpen. 2013: 4.08 ERA, 4.75 FIP 2014: 4.62 ERA, 4.74 FIP 2015: 4.49 ERA, 4.71 FIP 2016 Steamer: 143 IP, 4.77 ERA, 4.81 FIP. I'm not the biggest Erik Johnson fan but he can top that in my opinion. White Sox can't talk about contending and trot out John Danks every 5th day anymore. He can be given a shot at the beginning, but if he's bad, I think he'll be gone in one way or another.

Gallardo signs with Orioles, 3 years, $35 million
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Does this theoretically move us up in that comp pick? Yes. Once Gallardo signs, the White Sox will have the 27th pick in the draft. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:50 AM) Bernie Sanders is the man on the Democratic side. Let's face it. If he was 10 years younger he'd be a LOCK. He's just a little bit old. He won big tonight, folks. I've been watching the post election shows and I've heard words like "desperate" regarding Hillary. I'm just repeating what I've heard. They said because of the African American support, she still is a lock to be the Democratic candidate, but the pundits are still questioning her bizarre screaming of her speeches and her desperate attitude, blaming a right wing conspiracy today. My only hope as a Hillary dis-liker, is that the FBI accuses her of a crime and charges are filed and b.) this African American vote is not a done deal. I'd prefer a Bernie vs. Trump election or even better Biden or somebody else decides to run and be the Demcratic nominee after all. Even Hillary supporters have to admit tonight was not a good result for Hillary Rodham Clinton. The country has never tried left-wing politics before. I'd like to see it but it's never happened. I don't think that changes this year.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) I don't really think Tom had issues. Other than you could say he should have done a better job getting along with Gar (but how do we know Gar didn't just totally sabotage him anyway). Gar seems like the "I'll throw anyone under the bus" possible type of guy. Who knows what he did to Tom that ultimately created the rift. All I know is Tom was a much better coach than Hoiberg and was one of the elite coaches in the league. Whomever gets him will be extremely lucky and I think in hindsight, Jerry has to realize the best course might have been to cut the middle man out (Gar) and see if Pax and Tom could have worked things out (essentially bought a year without Gar in the mix to see if it would help...especially based upon the reports that Thibs always, even to this day, respected Pax. I disagree. I don't think Thibodeau ever wins a championship unless he changes some things. He's a fantastic lead assistant (defense) though. People that work up there weren't disappointed to see him go. He's a good coach. The shelf life ran out though.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/orio...i-gallardo.html Orioles will give up the 14th overall pick to sign Gallardo. I'd rather have Latos for $3 million than Gallardo for $$ and a pick. Yuck.
