  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) If you feel you are a few years away, why target big money free agents? Something isn't jiving here. They don't feel that way. That's the owner buying time. They will be very active. They want to sign 25-26 year old free agents though. It makes sense because they have drafted so poorly that they don't have a bunch of their own players to re-sign in coming years. They should compete for a playoff spot next year with another solid draft and a good offseason. Fox and Pace haven't been talking like guys expecting for some long rebuild.
  2. White Sox are still searching for LH power according to Levine. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/03/04/lev...t-handed-power/
  3. Hahn is lying. They have $$. They offered Dexter Fowler $20 million + but Latos and Rollins were a stretch? It's nonsense.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) Is it possible that they get something like a 3rd rounder in return? I wouldnt be surprised that a 4th is the best but would be ecstatic if the Bears can get a high 3rd or better for Marty. It really is unfortunate. Such a good tight end that does so much well and busts his ass out there in every game no matter how bad the team was. No chance. I like a 5th is the best they'll do with a 6th most likely.
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) So you are on the Wentz train now too huh? He really seems like the perfect profile of a guy being created into this power house though the draft process but not in reality. He has the measurables but I always am skeptical when someone rises this fast out of nowhere. But hell I am totally in agreement of the Bears taking a QB anywhere in this draft that they like. He didn't really rise out of nowhere. I mentioned Wentz as a 1st rounder on twitter last season. Just took the media awhile to come around. If he were at Bama he'd be a household name.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan18 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) I don't get your point. Buying direct is a bit cheaper. A UD corner pair for the opener comes out to $72.40 after fees. On Stubhub, the cheapest pair is $79.56, and it's 10 rows worse. Oh yeah for the opener WhiteSox.com is cheaper. It's not for any other tickets though. My OF seats for Game 2 were $23 per ticket.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Not sure the establishment could geat more pathetic if they tried. Nevermind, they totally will. They should though shouldn't they? He can't win the general. Isn't that the whole point?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) He is 100% right on pretty much every count. This is the ultimate con job. He's absolutely right. Oliver torched him in the same fashion on Sunday. His supporters don't care though.
  9. People do know that there are already tickets on stubhub, right?
  10. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Right, well until they retire, they're getting paid insane money to win cups, not play international matches that don't matter and risk injury. There's a reason the NHL wants pro players out of the Olympics and this is no different. Every year is critical in this Stanley Cup window. The last thing the Blackhawks need is a star player breaking a collarbone or worse. This I completely agree with. I don't care one bit about international competition.
  11. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) Mitt is delivering a pretty hypocritical speech about Trump right now. https://www.yahoo.com/politics/mitt-romney-...-162616616.html
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) Very interesting lineup. Didn't think Lawrie could possibly bat 2nd. The way the team is currently constructed, I'd prefer Lawrie hit 2nd vs LHP with his lifetime 128wRC+ vs lefties.
  13. Apparently, the Celtics tried to get Jimmy Butler at the deadline. Offered multiple picks (including Nets unprotected) and a young player apparently. I think I would have at least thought about it. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/celtics...ifference_maker
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) I don't understand the reasoning why people want Sanchez to be in AAA again. In my opinion, he's already proved himself there and putting him back there again does him no good. To me, he should either be in the big leagues or be traded. There isn't a spot for him in the majors though. Saladino is an ideal utility guy because he can play anywhere on the infield. I don't think Sanchez can play SS but they have been giving him reps at 3B.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) ref Q, i am with those that are saying that he will need to produce wins to show his value. other than that, he will never get his just recognition. now, if he doesn't, will that mean, that we, the fans of everything about the white sox maybe are being to bias??? Nah. Advanced metrics have pretty much made him a top 15-20 pitcher in baseball. His numbers are pretty identical to Lester and most would consider him an ace.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) Even a bright guy like Keri is severely underrating Quintana. Mass perception is a strange thing. Yeah I'm not sure that Tijuan Walker has more trade value than Q.
  17. http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/03/02/mlb-trade...rankings-part-1 Keri has Jose Quintana as an honorable mention this year and he has Carlos Rodon as #42.
  18. Romney to the rescue? Is this really happening? http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-elect...al-race-n530451
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) I realize the Bulls are cheap, but does Hoiberg get a 2nd year? Honestly, this is a disaster. Yes, there are injuries, but they don't even play. Someone has to lose their job for this season. Yes Hoiberg will be back. Hopefully they will get some players that fit the system but there's a big problem. Everyone's favorite "superstar" Jimmy Butler doesn't fit what the head coach wants to do either. He's an isolation 2 Guard. I think the most likely scenario is that Gar Forman gets launched and Paxson/Reinsdorf hire a new GM. Not that it really matters but I think that happens.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) Thanks, got Saturday tickets vs. Indians opening weekend. I'm going to go to that as well. I'd rather go to the Saturday Game because it's probably a Chris Sale start.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) And I'm not too stoked about the upcoming draft class, so I don't think missing the playoffs for a higher pick is that big of a deal. It's not a big deal but I don't really want to see this team play a playoff game.
  22. This was a write-up on Fields from Kiley McDaniel back in 2014:http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-top-10-prospects-detroit-tigers/: The Year in Review: Fields finally got the hang of Double-A in his second go-around in the league. He hit .284 with a .791 OPS but his struggles against left-handers (.684 vs .840 OPS against RHP) took a bite out of his overall results. He stole 24 bases in 31 attempts The Scouting Report: A curious decision to rush Fields’ development early in his career almost permanently derailed his MLB dreams. The young hitter rebounded well in 2013. He flashes average or better power to go along with 15 stolen base potential. Fields continues to strike out way too much to hit for a consistent average in the Majors and his struggles against southpaws could force him into a platoon role. Defensively, he’s played a lot of centre field but is probably more of a corner outfielder in the Majors due to his solid — but not exceptional — range. The Year Ahead: Fields will move up Triple-A in 2014 and, if he continues to improve, he may be one of the first outfielders promoted to the Majors in the event of an injury. The Career Outlook: The young prospect has to be commended for staying with it and not giving up or getting too frustrated with his lack of development. With that said, he has a lot of work to do against lefties to become a future regular. He's still only 25. If he can play average-above average defense in CF, I'd rather have him as the 4th OF than Shuck. Shuck isn't good in CF. I'd also rather have the LHB on the bench that hits well vs RHP. Shuck is better vs LHP. Fields is a little interesting. I kind of just glossed over this claim before. He's probably bad but guys with power/speed combo like this are always worth the flyer.
  23. The guys on the radio today were saying that missing the playoffs would be the worst outcome for Bulls. I very much disagree. I think making the playoffs would be worse. You have 0 shot at winning a title. You have like a 1.5% chance at winning the lottery. I'd much rather miss the playoffs.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) I want to trade Eaton because he would bring far more in trade than Thompson (esp off of a career year). Also, Thompson would be a competent replacement (for sure he can handle it defensively) and would have addressed a big need: defense. I don't want to dump Avi because we would get zero for him. I don't hate Eaton nor love Avi. Trading only players you hate is "selling low", a philosophy I consistently reject. Why don't the Dodgers play him or trade him? Maybe they don't think that baseball ends in 2017 like you and KW do. Otherwise, I have no idea what their plans are for him. Let me ask you: Why did the Dodgers take Thompson/Montas/Johnson instead of Frazier??????? I didn't like out 73 win team making short term deals 2 years ago and I don't like this 76 win team (which, with pythag 72, may have been worse than the 73 win team) doing it either. If this were a legit 80-82 win team and then you make those deals? Yes it makes sense (the Frazier deal would; the Samardizja trade was inane on all levels). Eaton is a 3-3.5 WAR CF. Trayce Thompson is a 4th OF. This is absurd.
  25. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Couple of easy reasons why it makes sense 1) The guaranteed money will more than cover the double Franchise money 2) The chance of an injury derailing a career or hurting value always looms Especially point 1. Alshon is not as good as Dez Bryant. Nobody said he was but he'd get close to it on the open market. Dez and Demaryius signed identical 5 year $70 million deals with $45 gtd. I said earlier that Jeffery would get 5/65/38. It's not the same $$
