I’m hoping it means Ottavino to the White Sox. I’d be ok with Herrera, but would much prefer Ottavino at the right terms.

While I really hope we don’t go with 13 pitchers, adding Avi would be a challenge even with a four man bench. Right now assuming Palka is in RF, we have three locks for the bench in Sanchez, Leury, & McCann. Then you have a somewhat intriguing guy in Rondon who is out of options. I’d rather explore his ability to play the OF than sign Avi to be honest.

Also, not that anyone should care, but I’ve switched my preference to Machado over Harper. Despite feeling strongly about what Bryce could represent for the franchise, several posters here have made compelling cases for Manny and the objective side of me agrees if it has to come down to one. That being said, I would still somehow love to land both, but am willing to admit it’s a long shot.

I don’t think the Angels would trade Trout even if I think they should. And I don’t believe Philly has the ammo to pull off such a trade off. Like does Hoskins, Sanchez, & Medina even start a conversation? That’s their best young player who’s still controllable for quite some time plus their top two prospects. I don’t think that’s even close enough to get a dialogue going.

Two years is a long time if you believe your team is ready to compete.

The problem is we’ll never know for sure what other teams are bidding. Sometimes for something very strategic, you have to be willing to pay what the asset (or player) is worth to you and not worry how it would be valued on the open market.

100% agree. I understand you don’t want to bid against yourself, but there is a premium we should be willing to pay to wrap this thing up. Maybe it’s not time for that just yet, but we have to be prepared for that moment where we say “what does it take to get this shit done”.

And I think they know this. I don’t think they’d be in this thing if they weren’t prepared to go at least 10/$300M if need be.

Is this move actually happening? I really, really hope it’s bullshit. Ex-Royals are the absolute worst. It’s like they’ve been cursed by that gypsie lady from Drag Me to Hell. I know Herrera was on the Nationals for a few months, but that’s not nearly long enough to wipe off that Royals stank. Three years minimum outside of KC before you can even consider bringing one of those chumps to the South Side. Let’s just hope Hahn is smart enough to realize this so we can avoid the fan revolt that would certainly result from Herrera’s pending flop.

Yeah I should of clarified, much more skeptical of the Phillies part than the Yankees part. Two years is a long time to wait on Mike Trout. And I doubt the Phillies would be scheduling an in person with Bryce if they weren’t mostly serious about a legit pursuit.

The part that excites me is about the Yankees & Phillies. If there’s any truth to what Max is saying (which I’m skeptical of), it would be absolutely huge for us.

No, three year deals are always riskier than one year deals. I know you hate vets, but arguing this is quite frankly ridiculous.
