Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
Chicago White Sox replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How is it possible that multiple posters with thousands of posts don't realize that sin city is just trolling? He literally does this same act in every thread. I have no idea how the dude hasn't been banned yet. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 10:38 AM) If you're sending out a mass PM, I'd like to be included. But if you have to do these individually, then please don't. I'm sure you're busy enough. Yeah, same here.

Given where we're at, I think Beckham is the only guy we must move. He's simply not very good and we can actually start developing a player for next year without missing a beat. Trade him now for whatever you can (even if you have to eat his entire salary) and call it a win. From there, listen to offers for pretty much anyone not named Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Avi, Conor, or Eaton. However, I think Alexei & Danks are the two we should be pushing hard. If we can get a quality return for either of them, then take the deal and trade minimal players like Dunn & De Aza for whatever you can. If no one is willing to pony up for Danks or Alexei, then I'm not completely against just running with what we have the rest of the way. Sure, it's a long-shot that we'll actually win a wild card spot, but there is some goodwill that could be earned with both fans and players by not doing a fire sale.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 06:36 AM) Punk move by Farrell. Richmond sucker punched the Jacksonville manager. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...73&sid=milb Thank you for posting, incredibly entertaining. Love when the Suns manager tosses all the balls onto the field.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Chicago White Sox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) The more you look at Beckham and what he makes, it would be insane for anyone to give up anything of value for him. He is beyond bad. Career OPS+ of 84 and a current OPS+ of 76. We should just DFA Gordon....we aren't going to get anything for him and the more at bats we give him at this point, with someone like Semien, etc, who at least haven't had the book written on them yet, the better. Someone will take him if we eat some salary, but he won't bring anything significant in return. Honestly, if I were Hahn I'd take on most of his remaining salary and hope for an A ball lottery ticket. We are better off giving Semien or Sanchez the ABs and I personally think Marcus would be an improvement right now. Beckham really needs to go by July 31st. -
Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Beckham is bound to rebound at least a little bit. If someone picks him up for nothing and the Sox take on some money, they will get a bargain. Perhaps, but even you would admit Beckham makes zero sense on this team next year right? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) But you'll note, the Tigers weren't in his list as getting compensatory picks. Bad example for this year, but they used to be eligible somehow. Point remains the same.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) Frankly, the Cubs too. It doesn't make a lick of sense to me that teams in small markets get these picks as opposed to bad teams. It would be like if the Packers got an extra 3rd round pick every single season (although it would be the tits if the Bills got an extra 3rd every year) It would be nothing like that, because the NFL is a salary cap based league. The financial edge the Cubs & Sox have over these "small market" teams is worth incredibly more than a competitive balance pick every other year. The problem with this system is when a small market owner decides he's going to spend like a big market owner, because then you have the Detroit Tigers.

Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2014 Season in Review
I appreciate Hawk's contributions over the years, but my god is it annoying how much he dominates each broadcast. Stone can barely get a thought in without Hawk interrupting. Time to either force Hawk to retire or find another partner for him, because the current pairing just doesn't work IMO. -

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) I think you will have to wait until next year. His downward spiral will probably mean the Sox will wait till the offseason. I don't think he's on our roster come August 1st. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) I'm still surprised that Davidson has fallen so far in everyone's eyes. But these guys are as legit as it gets outside of an actual team, so I'm willing to admit that I'm the crazy one. A 30% K rate as a AAA repeater is going to scare some people. I still love the Reed trade, but even I thought Davidson was a bit overrated when we acquired him. I don't care that he posted a 117 wRC+ at Reno, Adam Eaton posted a 163 wRC+ is his time there and he's basically an average major league hitter. Davidson still has age on his side, and obviously the power potential is legit, but I don't trust guys with significant contact issues at AAA. Hell, Adam Dunn only struck out 20% of the time when he was in AAA. Without significant progress, Davidson's contact issues would only be exploited more at the major league level. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) He doesn't have surplus value though, because his contract pays him every penny he's worth and then a touch more. You'd have to take the entire contract and then still find someone who believes his season is for real. Maybe that's a good move for us, but I don't think it's likely to occur. Which, IMO, makes him worth more to us than anyone else. We should at least be able to expect him to hold down our 3 or 4 spot in a serviceable manner for the next couple years. Teams aren't trading for surplus value at the deadline, they're trading for production. That's not to say it doesn't come into play, but let's not pretend the value of a player is the same for a team four months into a playoff run vs. the offseason when more options are available. Starting pitching is always overvalued at the deadline.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Chicago White Sox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) I agree, not at all. I'd rather see Semien up for good in Beckham's place. Would like to see them do everything they can to get Sanchez to stick at SS. Semien should definitely replace Beckham if/when he's traded. His OPS is creeping up to the .800 range despite a BABIP that is a good 50 points below his career average. The BB & K rates are close to his Southern Leauge MVP numbers and his ISO is even higher. I think he's much more ready for the big leagues than Micah is at this time. I've said it before, but I actually think Semien would be an upgrade over Beckham right now. IMO, there is absolutely no reason not to move Gordon before the deadline. -
Time to sell high on Gillaspie?
Chicago White Sox replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) How about this, in 646 career PAs against right-handed pitching he's got a .322 BABIP, .294 Batting average, .813 OPS with 17 homers. That's a valuable player to have considering he can get 500+ PAs against righties per year. I agree 100% Vance. The BABIP may be high right now, but even if it falls to the .320 to .330 range, he's still an incredibly valuable hitter. I think you have to listen to offers on him, but I would be hesitant in trading him given our lack of left-handed hitters. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) .370 BABIP. Sell high. What would you expect his BABIP to settle at in the long-run? -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) They won't get anyone of that caliber. Maybe a top 100 guy. You can't really trade Ramirez unless you get a really good deal though. Maybe like a top 100-150 type, someone from a system's 6-10 range, and a couple of flyers. I'm not sure I would call that a good deal. I think bare minimum you have to get one top 100 prospect (preferably in the 60 to 75 range) to even consider moving Alexei. Whether or not that's possible I don't know, but positional scarcity should help somewhat. Despite Hawk's insane overhyping, Alexei is a top 10 SS and signed to an affordable contract. You don't just give a player like that away, you've got to get some value in return or else you wait to the offseason when there may be more interested parties.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) Come on, that's ridiculous. He's hot lately, but that doesn't mean we can conveniently forget his poor two months to start the season. He's 22 in high-A with a .729 OPS. I would argue that's not a very good season and his stock should still fall from where it was before the season. If he stays hot the rest of the year you can say he's maybe inside the top 20 or 15, but top 10? No way. To be honest, I was going to put May at #10 on my list earlier this year, despite struggling horribly at the time. The fact is the kid has a great set of tools, amongst the best in the system. He definitely deserves top 10 consideration IMO.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 07:18 AM) Heath was scratched "in case the White Sox need him". Wonder if something is close. Ugh, I won't be watching that start. Heath has proven he doesn't belong in the big leagues. Pretty sad this is the best we can do in terms of call-ups. And why wouldn't we just give Surkamp the start?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 06:59 AM) The reality is that left-handed people are amazingly awesome and all you right-handed people are just jealous that you aren't. This is very true...hoping my son is left-handed. Teach him a knuckleball and he'll have a 50/50 shot to make the majors.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 06:25 AM) Why is it OK to have 4 or 5 RHP in a rotation, but not LHP? Just get 5 good pitchers. Who cares what hand they throw with? I think the argument you'll get is that there are a lot more RH hitters, but I agree who really cares. Good pitchers can get both LH & RH hitters out anyways.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Yankees are deep in catching prospects make it happen. If the Yankees show interest, that's exactly what you ask for. Filling the catching void should be our #1 priority and few teams have multiple high-end prospects. The Yankees are a perfect match for us, just depends how desperate they are for SP and if they rely heavily on advanced metrics when evaluating Danks.

2014-2015 NBA thread
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23420...rade-For-Boozer Sources indicate that the Chicago Bulls hope to pursue a sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers involving Pau Gasol and the expiring contract of Carlos Boozer. The window to use the amnesty provision on Boozer officially started on Wednesday night. By trading Boozer in a deal for Gasol, the Bulls would keep their exceptions to target players such as possibly Nikola Mirotic, Trevor Ariza, Shawn Marion, Kirk Hinrich and Ramon Sessions. It is unlikely that a deal with Gasol would be longer than three years. Gasol is reportedly considering the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Lakers in addition to the Bulls. Via K.C. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) Marcus is fine. .206/.315/.373 line and that's greatly affected by a BABIP in the .220s. Big thing we should be looking for and we've got is an improvement in his BB:K ratio more in line with what he did at AA last year. Completely agree. I still think he's the guy called up if Beckham is traded.
