Konerko / Dunn
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) The flip flop sounds good but it also stacks 3 righties in a row. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Kepp and De Aza have to do a better job getting on base because Rios is hot right now. What about if we did... 1 De Aza 2 Kepp 3 Gilespie 4 Rios Wow, Gillaspie should not be batting third under any circumstances. I get that's he been hitting well, but there's a reason we got him for a minor league relief prospect a week before the season. Keep him in the 7 hole to break up some of the low contact, right-handed hitters we have down there. Also, Rios is pretty close to even against RHP & LHP over the course of his career and while Paulie is better against LHP he's no slouch against RHP. I don't there's much of an issue having three right-handed batters in a row when two of them are Rios & Konerko.

Konerko / Dunn
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) You guys are really funny. So you agree that we have to get rid of Dunn, but don't like the idea of taking a chance on Sizemore. OK, what left handed bat is available? You can't seriously believe that the Sox could be competitive without a singe left handed hitter besides de Aza. Sizemore's performance before he went on the DL is irrelevant. You don't seriously think that he's a .220 hitter, when healthy, do you? His only issue is health. I'd rather gamble on that, then Dunn learning to make contact at this late date in his career. Come on now, we're not taking Dunn out of the lineup. He hasn't been that bad, at least not since 2011. The problem is with De Aza, Keppinger, & Rios at the top of the lineup, guys with solid OBP and speed (at least De Aza & Rios), having Dunn's all or nothing approach in the cleanup spot is killing us. We need to flip flop him and Paulie. Let's take advantage of Konerko's significantly better contact abilities and not strand all these baserunners when Dunn fails to hit a HR. I'm cool with Dunn batting behind Konerko. PK is so slow that it's almost always going to take two hits to drive him from 1st. Having Dunn's all or nothing approach is fine there. I just don't see any value in batting Dunn in front of Konerko.

Santiago for 5th starter
We should know something tomorrow, because we might as well send Axelrod down and call up a reliever if Santiago is being moved to the 5th spot.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 09:16 PM) Sox had their chances in all three games, they just couldn't get a big hit and the starting pitching sucked by the Sox in this series. Let's chalk it up to those two items and some bad decisions by Robin. Oh well, if you're going to get swept, we chose a good team to do it.

4/11 Games
QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) LOL flavum is not impressed. I found it hard to get fired up last year, but this year isn't getting the juices going either. I've been pleased with the recent drafts, but it's definitely taking time for the system to repopulate. For some reason, it feels like our system is worse this year.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) with the exception of Veal, our pen has been pretty stout And Thornton.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) He loves to take pitches down the plate for called 3rd while chasing pitches way off the plate. Sounds about right to me.

It's almost like when Flowers has two strikes on him, the chance of a strikeout is 105%.

Remember when Flowers was on pace for 162 HRs? Those were the days...

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) Leave some more on base this is maddening. 10 as a team through 6 innings, but 19 if counted individually. That's pretty f***ing bad.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) My prediction is two guys reach base, one gets flies out, and Dunn ends the inning with a called 3rd strike. Nice reverse jinx!

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 08:18 PM) The problem with the Sox bullpen is that they need two guys that can give multiple innings, and they really don't have that. Now if they bring up Omogrosso, he can probably be that 2-inning guy, and maybe Veal goes back to Charlotte if they replace Beckham's spot. Unless Veal has options, he ain't making it to Charlotte. Someone would take a chance on him.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) Needed innings from Dylan, not mad at Robin. Taking out your starter in the fourth inning is tough business. Shame on Dylan for throwing over the middle of the plate so much. Hope this is the last we see of him this year. We need innings but not at the expense of losing the game. We have a free roster spot and can have a multi-inning reliever as soon as tomorrow. Also, we're talking about one additional out at the most, since there was no way in hell Axelrod was coming out for the 5th. Made sense to get Santiago in there against Harper & LeRoche the next inning.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) He made no attempt to get in front of it and keep it there. None. I'll agree he should have made a better effort, but it was still a wild pitch going towards the feet of the batter.

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) defensive excellence behind the plate Hard to blame that on Flowers, it looked like it was going to hit Harper in the foot.

I would bring in Santiago to face Harper.

Honestly, replacing Beckham with Gillespie in the bottom third of the lineup might work out for us. Adding some solid contact between Viciedo & Flowers can only be a good thing.

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) I dont know what the hell that was. But Ill take it. It had double play written all over it and yet it somehow worked out. Hopefully a good omen of things to come.
