Leury has a 90 wRC+ this year and has averaged an 89 since 2017. The other three guys have combined for roughly the same amount of plate appearances as Andrew Vaugh, so doubtful they’d be able to inflate our team wRC+ all that much anyways. Regardless, Goodwin is at 106 this year vs. a career 102, while Hamilton is at 72 vs. a career 67. Engel has greatly out-produced his career numbers, but it’s been 79 PA’s. Basically, you just make stuff to fuel your pessimism.

And that‘s actually a really good point. Even if you somehow think Leury is the answer at 2B, we literally no middle infield depth behind him & Mendick.

And I’m fine with it come October, but the kid still needs some innings in the interim. Tony seems to think Michael is going to pull a Wainwright and go from a reliever to a starter and add 125 innings next year. That’s not going to happen or it will simply not end well.

I didn’t catch that, but I did see La Russa basically all but confirm that earlier today. I still can’t believe we are going to compromise his ability to start next year.
