  1. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) There's no chance Dye is coming back. I'd take Thome back but I really do prefer the idea of not having a DH that can't play the field for this team unless he was a real stud. Exactly, Thome is no stud by any means. As long as he NEVER plays against a lefty, I'll take his 2 strikeouts, 1 weak selfish groundout to the shift, no speed, and 1 walk per game against good pitching, and his 3 for 4 with a HR once a week during a blowout.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) What if I s*** bricks of gold and it smells like roses? Besides that, if those two hit and they are DHing most of the time, it won't matter that they can play important positions. Yea the best case scenario here is that Kenny turned a couple bricks of s*** into gold. It's actually a possibility. All I'm sayin is that with this pitching staff, we can afford to wait to see what the bricks taste like. If the bricks stay nasty and start to decompose, then let's sign a DH. Wait, are there going to be good leftover hitters? How many good hitters are left to fill how many rosters?
  3. Chunk I meant that he's looked at as a weak link next year. Probably because of the playoffs, Yankees fans are more excited about Gardner. Who cares about the Yanks, on to our DH. I'd rather let spring training play out before signing anybody. Let's see if we have 10 Major League producers for 9 positions before we do anything. Our division isn't running away if we wait til May, June or even the deadline to sign an out of work DH. What if Flowers rakes in ST? What if Andruw Jones is a beast? And these guys can play important positions. All we need is someone to be Hot Carl this year.
  4. Yankees fans don't like Swisher. All you have to do is go to one of their message boards. If they got ousted in the first round they would hate him even more, like we did. They won the world series so he gets a pass, but i'd say the majority consider him the weak link in the outfield. And that's with his .900 OPS! Perhaps OPS doesn't tell the whole story?? Hmmm???? As far as this team is concerned, I'd much rather not sign anybody than take Thome or Cust; total opposite direction we are headed. Why go from trying to have all good baseball players to signing fluff stat players. Can't we let AJ get some RBIs this year? Do we really have to put 3 slow guys in front of him and his .300 average again? Ughhhh.. We are so close to being so good; no steps backward please.
  5. I don't think there is much pressure to make the major trade before the season. Let's fill out the roster for now, and then look to add that bigger piece during the season. For now, I'm just really curious to see what Andruw Jones is gonna bring to the table. He could turn into cheap lightning.
  6. Contractortalk.com is pretty cool; just found that one. I've been ruining people's days on ESPN.com since like 2004. The WhiteSox representation on there is pretty slim, but who cares. At least there are like 100 new topics to talk about every day.
  7. Don't worry Steve I'm with ya. I recognize hyperbole and its wonderful uses. "He wasn't a HUGE piece of s***" "It's wrong to call a man a huge piece of s*** when you don't personally know him" "What did he ever do to you man?" "Milton Bradley, now that's a huge piece of s***!" Go ahead dullards, please pick one of the quotations to use.
  8. Good to see most people taking Thome out. The youth of America applauds you. Haha I hope some guy responds, "We're talking about the current roster only.."
  9. I always cut Andy Gonzalez a little slack cuz of that 20 pitch AB against Zumaya. It was one of his first PA and I thought, "Man if this guy can battle with the good Zumaya, we might have something here". Turned out to be a can a old turds, but whatever. I hated the man Alan Embree, everything about him; oh yea and his pitching sucked too. I took everything he did quite personally.
  10. What happened to signing Holliday and trading for Gonzo?
  11. JR has never had a pitching staff like this; I bet we sign Holliday outa f***in nowhere.
  12. Ugh, neither of these 2 fit on my 2010 team.
  13. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) This statement is pure genius. I love it too. To paraphrase: An inability to be versatile is an attribute.
  14. Between Gardner and De Aza lies a stud waiting to blossom. Not a TCQ-type stud, but a guy who does a different, and necessary job. Doesn't De Aza typically start off red hot? I think he becomes the answer when it is all said and done. I'd love to have gardner pushing him, which can only help.
  15. I think I like what Gardner can bring more than Melky.
  16. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I agree. In comedy you never tell the audience the joke is coming. Yes! Green defeats the whole purpose of sarcasm. In fact, using green is as good as saying, "I'm 1 of the 50% of the population who doesn't understand sarcasm". I applaud your non-use of green, as well as the anarchy it caused.
  17. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) On the bench? Hell we need some power in the lineup! (I like this move though) Hopefully this power right fielder arrives
  18. We don't have a backup for SS, so how exactly is this anything but a great move? Guy does it right if he's 43 and still playing. What are we supposed to trade for Andrus to backup Alexei? 100% great move IMO.
  19. Well let's bump him up to AAA to start the year. Tell me, do I understand this correctly? Will he find more polished curveballs coming his way there? As I understand it, the better raw stuff is in AA, but more pitchers in AAA have been up to the show. So would we get a better idea of his strikeout/discipline projections if he were exposed to more polished repertoires? I guess that's my question; are pitchers in AAA tougher pitchers?
  20. I think a swap of Konerko for GMJ and a prospect or 2 is a great deal for both teams. The Angels pay GMJ Konerko-like money to ride the bench. Since Konerko is a better player and only signed for a year, the Angels would definitely have to compensate us with prospects to flip to SD. This deal makes alot of sense to all teams involved, as long as we get Adrian.
  21. 20-33 to start the year a few years back, started solid last year too. I say we ride his hot start this year as well. Just gotta beef up DH then.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) I still think having his brother, the fact that they changed agents, etc., pretty much is a 100% guarantee that D2: the mighty danks will get a shot in the White Sox OF before any trades with him are even considered. I think his brother makes him the 1 untouchable in our minor leagues right now. That's a bold statement knowing our GM, but I'm right on board that ship with ya. I'd say CJ Retherford would go to Tampa now that Iwamura is gone. He's now our best trading piece with Beckham at 2nd and Viciedo to take 3rd post Teahen.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) What if the person making the statement is, in fact, a mod. And what if the statement he is responding to is, in fact, overreactionary? Ky, the whole fun of being a Sox fan is trying to figure out KW during the offseason. This is the time to make exaggerant predictions and get called stupid for it. Keep it light, and let the opinoins fly my man!
  24. Yes, let's extend him through his prime, no matter the cost.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) The Rays just traded a better than average 2B with good OB and defensive skills for a mediocre middle reliever. The White Sox traded an unproven prospect who struck out 40 times in 116 plate appearances for a mediocre middle reliever. You tell me who got better value. good post
