CQ? We have to give up CQ now to get that fat DH that doesn't want to DH? Ughh, I hope KW is not interested at all in this guy.
-
Unless this is the smartest thread ever, gettin everyone to take the bait, at own reputation's expense; that would be kinda heroic I suppose. I don't think that's very likely though. Somebody has to be a glue salesman.

Who should start at 3B/2B for the near future?
Jerksticks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) I like this one right now. I can't believe I'd ever want Omar in our lineup heading into this season. I wouldn't mind Viciedo at third and Omar/Beckham combo at second. I think it'd be dumb to kill the mojo right now and change anything drastically til we lose 2 in a row. The team turned it around; maybe Beckham finally will. I wouldn't be upset though, if Beckham got sent down, except for the superstitious part of changing a good thing. I agree with all of this. You'd sure hate to see the team suddenly tank if the kid gets sent down; chemistry, superstition whatever you call it. To Gordon: Just relax and hit a few man so we don't have to hide your bat in the lineup anymore. It's ok for now but we can't be havin this when the race heats up after the break. We all want to believe in you, we really do. -
This win streak...how much credit goes to Ozzie?
Jerksticks replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
People are always going to try to sound smart, or try to take credit for pointless happenings; who cares. Ozzie is great today, bad tomorrow, or the real smart guy says he's always bad or always good, despite the team. There's only like 4 typical opinions one can possibly have; and why does there have to be credit given for getting to .500 anyway? None of this credit you create is deserved yet, but I attribute the recent success to the current lunar cycle; prove I'm wrong. -
6-16 game thread, Sox at Pirates

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Vintage weak pop up by Beckham He shouldn't be allowed to swing first pitch, especially against weaker arms like these. He has to earn that right back. -
See I thought he was just locking up Teahen in hopes that he'd out-perform his contract by a substantial margin, thereby making him one of our better trading chips. But....he sucks. Do you think Kenny really wanted him here for 3 years?
-
So, in summary, everything is pretty much staying as is until we approach the deadline. How does Teahen rank among 3rd basemen? His salary isn't terrible so maybe another team would like him for 2 years.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Alexei Ramirez is a legitimate shortstop. The OPS among all SS's in the MLB is .696. Alexei is at .686 right now and, considering he's eclipsed that in the past two seasons and he's heating up like he normally does, it wouldn't be shocking to see him do it again. He's also solid defensively too. Alexei Ramirez is better than your league average shortstop. Considering what he produces and how much he costs, he's really the least of the Sox concerns. I understand your points, but I don't think any Sox fan would argue Alexei's production or contract. It's all gravy. But we've sacrificed defense big time this year to put Gordo at 2B, where I don't think he looks comfortable at all yet. Now we're stuck with Teahen's crappy D at 3rd, and it's not like Teahen is this great power 3B that fulfills typical power 3b production anyway. Beckham was awesome at 3B. Now he's rotting away at the most useless position in baseball where teams stick their crappiest infielders. We need us a real Third Baseman, and hopefully we get it for next year. Who is it? And any of you guys who say 3B must be a power, plus-bat position, then you have absolutely no right to ever suggest Morel.
-
Eh, I liked Gordo's position at 3B. He seems to have no range but a quick first step. He started looking like a plus defender over there, and it keeps him outa double plays. I wish we had a legit SS, could move Alexei to 2B and Beck back to 3B. Whatever.

Over .500 and within 5 games by the end of the month!

Let's see if Gavin mans up today and mows down some weak NL garbage. Maybe the NL is just what this team needs to gain the necessary confidence. -

We have the best bullpen in the league if our starters continually go deep. -
Guillen, Williams almost come to blows during shouting match

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) I like how managing a Championship team gives you a job for life but assembling one really means nothing. No s***. I don't want to pick a side on this; hope we never really have to. Let's hope the starting pitching staff keeps rolling, and get a huge bat. We can take this. -

Jerksticks replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with both of your points. There's no way Kenny is responsible for the players performing this poorly; we'd be good if they were all playing well. The problem is that our 2 best hitters going into the season (Quentin, Beckham) were question marks. With their salaries being so low, we needed to pay premium for a proven RBI bat or 2, thereby offsetting the question marks of Beckham/Quentin. That flexibility would have lightened the pressure on these 2 young, budding superstars who, for god's sake, don't need all this responsibility. Took Derek Lee years to recover from the wrist injury, but he did. Now his problems might just be age. -
Not trying to bicker over who the better pitcher is, because it is definitely Danks right now. But the way Floyd used to effortlessly pitch 7-8 innings when he was on, was something Danks will never be able to do. Danks has to work too hard to get to the 8th inning. What happened to that good Floyd, the one who would take no hitters into the 6th like it was his job? That's why we can't sell low on the kid; he's better than this and his contract isn't hurting us at all.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) People are going to keep saying that until both of them are retired. And when that happens, Danks will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. People are going to keep saying this until both of them retire. And then that happens, Floyd will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. See, I'm right now.
-
Exciting time to be a Sox fan with big changes on the near horizon. We all talk about restocking the farm even while knowing our GM loves to send kids packing. So not through your eyes, but through Kenny's; who would you sacrifice a bunch of kids for? Any players not typically thought of as available? Like somebody else's Danks, Beckham etc.
-
Disagree on selling low on Floyd. I still think Floyd might end up being a better pitcher than Danks. He doesn't seem like much of an injury risk with his easy delivery. With that curveball and his ability to go deep into games, he's one of our few quality contracts. AJ has to go now.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) 10. Kotsay, Castro, Lillibridge, Nix, Vizquel = who cares. All for sale, none worth a damn. This. What about making our bench spots more of a pipline with the minor league guys. I'm sick of wasting resources on old cast-off trash, guys past their primes. Why can't we give some Knights guys at-bats ever? Never, unless it's call-up season. If it was more fluid, guys up here would start worrying about their jobs and might play harder. Who knows. I'd trade AJ though; he just doesn't care anymore.
-
So nobody gives a hoot if Buehrls is just up n traded? It's almost like a "Don't let the door hit yer ass on the way out" mentality floating around here. Anybody else sense this?

Haha, is watching Crasnick's live-typing the only way to follow this?
