  1. And who cares what is fair or not, or hypocritical. This is war; and in wars, important battles are fought. Right now, I smell blood in the water.
  2. It's not live or die for the other Arizona teams. Spring training dollars are not the meat of any team's revenues; at least I hope not. Anybody that lives outside of Arizona probably doesn't go to spring training, nor will they ever. It's just the facts. I wish I could do more to make Ricketts uncomfortable. Some sort of grass-roots campaign needs to take hold here. If all the residents of Arizona knew that these ticket and rental-car taxes could go to fund better education state-wide, the cubs would look like the bad guys. It's possible to ruin this for the cubs if enough of us campaign, and the right steps are taken. Anybody good at web design? I'll pay for the website; we need to get the people of arizona against the cubs. I would love nothing more.
  3. I was 16 in 2000 and I remember whipping an apple at the wall in my room. The dried up chunks still remain at my parents house.
  4. Yuniesky sounds super Russian; is that dude from Cuba?
  5. I don't worry so much about Garcia/Hudson because the front 4 is so powerful. What was it 2003 or 2004 where we had that rotating door of crap 5th starters going like 4-15? Our front 4 are way better than that year. I don't think Hudson would post awful numbers if Garcia goes down, either.
  6. The team is more like the 2005 team but with better pitching all around. Everyone except Pierre and AJ can easily hit 20-30 HR. Pierre: 1 HR Beckham: 25 HR Quentin: 40 HR Konerko: 30 HR AJ: 15 HR Rios: 25 HR Missile: 20 HR Teahen: 20 HR Bench: 30 HR Is this not realistic? Around 200 HRs of the balanced variety. 20 From Jones and another 10 between Nix, Kotsay and Castro. Maybe we could use another player but I'm ok with this. I still wish we had another good outfielder. The only difference from 2005 is that this pitching staff only has to pitch up to its ability, not out their asses like 2005.
  7. Just a reminder: The 1 year in this decade where we didn't focus on power we won the World Series. Although there are a million ways to chop up this statement of mine, I still give it weight.
  8. Good, this answers the Flowers question. Get some more practice in buddy. Although I don't want us to sign a DH before ST, I'm all for that idea instead of a blockbuster deal. We have some good trading chips at the high levels and I'd hate to use them prematurely. Let's see where the weakneses are on this team during April/May and then possibly use the prospects to ensure a title push.
  9. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) There's no chance Dye is coming back. I'd take Thome back but I really do prefer the idea of not having a DH that can't play the field for this team unless he was a real stud. Exactly, Thome is no stud by any means. As long as he NEVER plays against a lefty, I'll take his 2 strikeouts, 1 weak selfish groundout to the shift, no speed, and 1 walk per game against good pitching, and his 3 for 4 with a HR once a week during a blowout.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) What if I s*** bricks of gold and it smells like roses? Besides that, if those two hit and they are DHing most of the time, it won't matter that they can play important positions. Yea the best case scenario here is that Kenny turned a couple bricks of s*** into gold. It's actually a possibility. All I'm sayin is that with this pitching staff, we can afford to wait to see what the bricks taste like. If the bricks stay nasty and start to decompose, then let's sign a DH. Wait, are there going to be good leftover hitters? How many good hitters are left to fill how many rosters?
  11. Chunk I meant that he's looked at as a weak link next year. Probably because of the playoffs, Yankees fans are more excited about Gardner. Who cares about the Yanks, on to our DH. I'd rather let spring training play out before signing anybody. Let's see if we have 10 Major League producers for 9 positions before we do anything. Our division isn't running away if we wait til May, June or even the deadline to sign an out of work DH. What if Flowers rakes in ST? What if Andruw Jones is a beast? And these guys can play important positions. All we need is someone to be Hot Carl this year.
  12. Yankees fans don't like Swisher. All you have to do is go to one of their message boards. If they got ousted in the first round they would hate him even more, like we did. They won the world series so he gets a pass, but i'd say the majority consider him the weak link in the outfield. And that's with his .900 OPS! Perhaps OPS doesn't tell the whole story?? Hmmm???? As far as this team is concerned, I'd much rather not sign anybody than take Thome or Cust; total opposite direction we are headed. Why go from trying to have all good baseball players to signing fluff stat players. Can't we let AJ get some RBIs this year? Do we really have to put 3 slow guys in front of him and his .300 average again? Ughhhh.. We are so close to being so good; no steps backward please.
  13. I don't think there is much pressure to make the major trade before the season. Let's fill out the roster for now, and then look to add that bigger piece during the season. For now, I'm just really curious to see what Andruw Jones is gonna bring to the table. He could turn into cheap lightning.
  14. Contractortalk.com is pretty cool; just found that one. I've been ruining people's days on ESPN.com since like 2004. The WhiteSox representation on there is pretty slim, but who cares. At least there are like 100 new topics to talk about every day.
  15. Don't worry Steve I'm with ya. I recognize hyperbole and its wonderful uses. "He wasn't a HUGE piece of s***" "It's wrong to call a man a huge piece of s*** when you don't personally know him" "What did he ever do to you man?" "Milton Bradley, now that's a huge piece of s***!" Go ahead dullards, please pick one of the quotations to use.
  16. Good to see most people taking Thome out. The youth of America applauds you. Haha I hope some guy responds, "We're talking about the current roster only.."
  17. I always cut Andy Gonzalez a little slack cuz of that 20 pitch AB against Zumaya. It was one of his first PA and I thought, "Man if this guy can battle with the good Zumaya, we might have something here". Turned out to be a can a old turds, but whatever. I hated the man Alan Embree, everything about him; oh yea and his pitching sucked too. I took everything he did quite personally.
  18. What happened to signing Holliday and trading for Gonzo?
  19. JR has never had a pitching staff like this; I bet we sign Holliday outa f***in nowhere.
  20. Ugh, neither of these 2 fit on my 2010 team.
  21. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) This statement is pure genius. I love it too. To paraphrase: An inability to be versatile is an attribute.
  22. Between Gardner and De Aza lies a stud waiting to blossom. Not a TCQ-type stud, but a guy who does a different, and necessary job. Doesn't De Aza typically start off red hot? I think he becomes the answer when it is all said and done. I'd love to have gardner pushing him, which can only help.
  23. I think I like what Gardner can bring more than Melky.
  24. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I agree. In comedy you never tell the audience the joke is coming. Yes! Green defeats the whole purpose of sarcasm. In fact, using green is as good as saying, "I'm 1 of the 50% of the population who doesn't understand sarcasm". I applaud your non-use of green, as well as the anarchy it caused.
