  1. QUOTE (The '05 Sound @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) What would be think about getting Jordan Shafer back in a Quentin deal. BY NO MEANS AM I SAYING AS THE MAIN GUY IN THE TRADE. He's mlb ready, I know the Braves have been iffy on him as he hasnt shown great potential in the mlb, but he does possess speed as an outfielder and can hit. Only reason I bring it up is because we talk about all the pitching prospects that we could get, I wouldnt mind getting Shafer, I kind of like him. (and yes he has been suspended once for steroids, but whatever.) not interested, dont think he is much of a htter
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) I just threw up in my mouth. What are you talking about? What do you mean somebody will take Rios by himself? You can't be serious. If you're serious then I'm going down the street to this fat girl's house that likes me to have fun with her because fat girls never say no. would she say no if you had puke in your mouth?
  3. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Prior to this season, Dunn was one of the most consistent hitters in baseball. It's not ridiculous to expect him to turn it around, once and if his BABIP ever returns to career norms. Looking at his numbers, it's just impossible to explain why he's been this bad. I know I expect him to turn it around any day now. I've said that all season and I'll keep saying it. Dont you actually have to put the ball in play for BABIP to matter?
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:03 AM) IIRC, Wal-Mart just had a suit like this against them and it was thrown out. incorrect, the wal-mart case was a class action that was determined not to be a class because the plaintiffs were not similarily situated. there was no ruling on the merits of the case
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) LOL, WHAT? Is that a joke? f***ing s***, I would be fine if Kenny through in Matt Thornton and any prospect not named Viciedo/Reed if it meant Brown, Singleton, AND Cosart. That's beyond video-game level trade. i would certainly give up reed if we got those 3, not happening
  6. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:10 AM) I'll miss him, might be my favorite Sox player right now behind Paulie I like Carlos a lot too. I don't see the Phils giving up Brown for him, I think he can be just as good. If they offered Brown, you gotta take it.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) I think KW could have had Rasmus had he really wanted him. Clearly, after the experience they had with Swisher and the same issue, they were steering clear of bringing the same type of distraction into the clubhouse again. Doesn't seem like the player you want on your team when things are going bad for him personally. I don't think the Swisher issue was the same at all. Swisher was an attention whore and a big baby. Colby is a cocky kid who needs some direction and guidance. He can change.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) I get the feeling that Humber is going downhill right before our eyes. I don't know if it is IP catching up with him, or if it is a regression to where he realistically should be, but I am not counting on him for too much down the stretch. certainly possibly, he could be tiring and not much help in september. which would leave us with 3 starters and maybe counting on stewart this year?
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:54 AM) Peavy moves to bullpen if we make the playoffs IMO we sure hope so, even when Jake was an ace, he was a horrible big game pitcher
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) They don't make the playoffs if Jake is not developing back towards 100+ pitches. They can make it without him. They don't make it if the offense continues to suck
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) I actually agree with you but he's shown through 70 pitches that he can still be a very effective pitcher. Maybe(huge maybe) if he can build up some arm strength he can at least be a viable option come playoff time. Also, the one guarantee if we did indeed make the playoffs is that Ozzie would not throw Danks and Mark back to back. Maybe so but a guy who can only throw 70 pitches should not start a playoff game. You can't destroy a bullphen like that in a short series. You could be right about him not throwing them back to back but that doesn't make sense to me. They are not at all the same type of pitcher and just because they are both lefthanded isn't reason enough
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) Danks, with how well he's pitched recently. The problem is you don't want Danks/Buehrle back-to-back, and that leaves you deciding between Peavy/Humber/Floyd to start in between them. If Peavy ever gets his stuff and stamina back, you have to go with Peavy (#2). Probably Humber (at this exact moment), but his last couple of starts have been shaky, and Floyd's Version 1B/2A of Edwin Jackson. It's saying something that we still have 5 (and recently 6) guys you could easily argue should be starting 1-2-3 in a playoff rotation. Of course, there are PLENTY of legit arguments against all 3 of our righties. Peavy, Humber and Floyd. Seriously? Please give it up with peavy. He is not getting his stuff back. He is no longer an ace and I want him nowhere near starting a playoff game Danks Mark Floyd Humber
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) I have a feeling the Sox will actually play well in those. It's just how this team functions. we miss beckett and CC so that helps
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Thank you sir. And I wonder what Colby will do not getting to face the Astros, Cubs, Brewers and Pirates pitching day after day as opposed to the Red Sox, Rays, Yanks and O's. away from that pig headed larussa? become a star
  15. anyone using the beta version of gamecast? it says scherzer is pitching to miggy. man i wish that were true
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Now that Rasmus is out of the cards, I go back to my original stance of next years OF being Milledge - De Aza - Viciedo please no, milledge is awful, he gives less effort than rios
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) See, I disagree. Jackson wasn't coming back, Thornton is overpriced, and Reed is still an unknown commodity. I think Cards liked the Toronto package more cause they'll get more draft picks out of it and Rz is better than Thornton for the cost. I agree. I dont think that is a steep price. You would have obtained the salary relief desired and acquired a guy who may become one of the top CFs in the league soon. Certainly worth the gamble and if he didn't work out then you don't give him a long term deal or arb him. Jackson and Thornton will be distant memories once Rasmus reaches his prime and Reed is a hard throwing setup man. Those types of guys are all over the place and often don't work out.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Also, someone tell me why I should sell the farm for an OF that has 1000 PA, mediocre power, run production, batting average, etc. that also is a below average fielder according to UZR? you will understand in two years
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) Would y'all have done Jackson + Viciedo + Reed for Rasmus? I would have
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) Why? based on the internal scouting reports i have read
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) Really, the more I think about it, the more I'm uncertain about the bust rate on AAA guys. How many top level guys have we seen be the key parts of trades over the past few years but then wind up not producing once they reach the show? LaPorta comes immediately to mind. Delmon Young took years before he wound up putting up an .800 OPS. Justin Smoak is hitting .227 with a .720 OPS. Kyle Drabek put up a 1.79 WHIP. dont forget Andy Marte. that guy was supposed to be a monster
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) Most people would be. Rios was a great RF and average CF. The difference right now is that Rasmus's current bat would be below average for an RF and above average for a Cf. Personally I think in two years Rasmus is going to be a stud. I would love to have him on our team. Rios, however, will be an awful bat for a RF. On the other hand, I would not trade Carlos for Beachy, who has limited upside and is likely to be a #4 or #3 starter at best. Carlos is far and away one of our two best hitters right now. Saying that we have a suitable replacement in Dayan is not persuasive to me. We need both guys in the lineup to have a chance because we have so many other below average hitters. In addition, it is far from proven that Dayan can match Carlos' production.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) The White Sox haven't drafted well in recent years, so you have to go outside the organization if you want to win. Beckham and Sale were 2 guys anyone on Soxtalk could have drafted. Its about time the White Sox scouting department comes up with a 5th round gem. hudson was a great pick
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Which is the whole reason they are looking to deal him (if the rumors are true. except that they arent true
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Well Edwin and Thornton for Rasmus is silly. Edwin is going to be worth quite a bit starting tomorrow morning, with this pitching market. i hope you are right but i disagree. i dont think we will get more than rasmus for him, either in a trade or a comp pick
