I have a bet with a friend on who will have more career wins, Buehrle or Felix. Made this bet two years ago. Steak dinner at Maestros. What do you guys think?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) I have a feeling this thread is going to be a roller coaster this year. I agree. I don't see him being a .290 hitter. I think more like .260 with his lack of plate discipline. Plus around 30 hrs. But I think he will be very streaky.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) Prospects can have incredible value due to the uncertainty as to what they will ultimately become...the possibility that Viciedo could become the next Adrian Beltre, in a cost-controlled environment, can make him incredibly valuable. If he shows a glimpse of that at the MLB level, it may be enough to convince another scout or GM. But if you honestly don't believe he will become that kind of player, say, you think he ultimately resembles Wily Mo Pena more than Adrian Beltre, than you trade him while there are still other GMs that believe he will become the next Adrian Beltre. This isn't a difficult concept to grasp. It's merely trying to sell high on a stock you think will inevitably be a dog. Now many of you are arguing that the stock is going to be a winner, and not a dog...and that's fine, and a completely different argument. All I'm saying is I think the stock is a dog, and I want to sell it before that becomes apparent. But at the same time, you're telling me the rest of the market is looking at the stock as a dog too...and not really explaining to me why that is... but what kind of dog do you think he is? you wouldn't sell him if he was blur!

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) I'd have thought they'd have offered up Beachy before Teheran...I mentioned Teheran about 5 times when those rumors were occurring and everyone told me I was in la la land. If we passed on him I'm quite disappointed. well my man, you may be in la la land for other reasons! kenny didnt want to sell last year, he thought the sox were in it till the end
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 17, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Beachy would've been Nnnniiiccceee! For my own sanity, I'm going to believe/pretend it didn't happen. Wasn't Beachy, but Minor or Teheran yes.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 17, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) I fully expect that to happen. But will KW and company realize that even if they're only 5-6 games out that it's time to concede? It didn't happen last year. I realize I'm just a fan and KW has to evaluate/operate in a certain manner, but the best GM's know when it's time to raise the white flag. I have my doubts that they will realize this. They should have realized it last year when Atlanta was offering legit prospects for Carlos.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)

QUOTE (Jake @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) Since we're going to talk about Kenny Williams as if he's never made a good move, let's just go ahead and mention all the good moves so we remember that he's actually done some good. Aaron Rowand, Gio Gonzalez for Jim Thome Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd, Gio Gonzalez Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin Esteban Loaiza signing Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton Chris Sale draft pick Signings in 2005 - AJ Pierzysnki, Jermaine Dye, Tadahito Iguchi, Bobby Jenks Extending Paul Konerko 2x Brandon McCarthy for John Danks Alexei Ramirez signing Phil Humber signing TBD: Dunn signing Peavy trade (didn't lose much), especially if insurance payouts were had Quentin trade (injured, who would guess that) Ozzie Guillen compensation players? (lol, not entirely serious) this is all I can remember off the top of my head. There are some non-moves, like non-tendering Jenks, that stick out as well I think McCarthy will have a better career from here out than danks but that was still a good move up to this point. Dunn is not tbd. That was a bad signing. We didn't give up much for Peary but he sure has not been worth the money -
White Sox @ Oakland 4.25 game thread 2:35pm

All I have to say is when your 1b is batting 9th, your lineup either stinks or is phenomenal. In the A's case I vote stinks. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Still a long season ahead for Peavy, and there will likely be some bumps in the road health wise. I'm of the opinion that if he pitches great this year, you thank him for his contributions this year and let him sign a big 3 year deal with the Dodgers, etc. Agreed. Let him go. I think the odds are far more likely he would disappoint than earn another big contract. And I don't think he has the type of character that feels so bad about his performance he would give the Sox a discount.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) Really liked The Cabin in the Woods. One of the better horror movies from the past few years. It was certainly different and very bloody. Wasn't as scary as I had hoped but all in all it was pretty entertaining.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) What about just moving everybody else up one spot? de Aza Dunn Konerko AJ Rios Alexei Dayan Beckham Morel that may actually increase the 2 hole strikeouts!
-
Just imagine if by some miracle the Sox were in contention. Any crucial situation in Aug/Sept, the opposition just has to bring in a lefty and Dunn has no chance and the rally is squelched. How can you have that guy of hitter in the middle of your lineup?

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 17, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) 16 K's in 35 ABs. At least this man is dedicated to something. he is striking out at a worse rate than last year. i dont think he will ever be productive again

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) 2nd/3rd, one out, 3-1 lead, not the easiest save situation at all for Sergio. Youkilis and Ortiz, doesn't get harder than that. hmmm stupid cbs said he was not there -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) yup. and i don't care that he's not a #1. Having 3 #2's a #5 and a potential #1 is fine by me. agreed but I dont think Floyd or Peavy are #2s either -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 12:50 PM) All those Houston relievers seemed like the same guy, but I'll always remember Chad Qualls' first pitch that night. I was so excited I kissed some random 15 yr old girl. Then about 2 hours later I felt really guilty. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Danks has those stretches of dominance...but this is why I'd call Danks a "Question mark" or at the very least "Less than rock solid" as a #1 pitcher. He also has stretches where that changeup just isn't on, and when that changeup isn't on, he doesn't have a good other way of getting outs. Danks is clearly not a #1 pitcher. He may be in the bottom 5 of #1s in the league. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 09:56 AM) Over the past 6 months I have watched all of Mad Men and the first three seasons of Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy. That is some good television there. Any idea how I can get SOA season 4 and Breaking Bad season 4. Breaking Bad season 4 I watched on xbox. There is some app on there that has shows (not hulu).
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Viciedo gets less than 400 at bats, either because of injury or because of being treated as a platoon player. Alex Rios has a good enough first half that he would be tradeable and people call about him, but the Sox elect to hold onto him and he has a poor 2nd half. thus a repeat of exactly what happened in 2010?

dotson is correct, though kershaw should top it this year
