SI Team Preview, interesting Peavy tidbits (excuses?) about his health

QUOTE (Wanne @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 11:59 PM) wtf? he wants to make millions without doing any work oh wait -
I dislike Rios but if anyone on this team is in my least favorite list that would be Peavy

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) ...just ended my (engaged) relationship of 3.5 years. This was my first relationship, so I have no experience with breakup Someone tell me this gets better... My first serious relationship I was dating a girl for 4 years. Went to her company Christmas party and basically figured out she was sleeping with her boss. I confronted her and she admitted it. It will get better for sure, but it takes time. The way to deal with it I think is to try and hang out with friends more to occupy your free time. Talking to friends and just having fun will hopefully get your mind of it somewhat. Hanging out with people will make you feel that people like being around you and should help your self esteem. Eventually the time will pass and you will feel better.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 04:17 PM) I don't see Humber being able to sustain his success. He'll likely be in the rotation out of Spring Training, but I think Stewart will overtake him eventually. I'm also a big fan of Stewart though. I want to see him getting consistent big-league starts. You have Sale above Peavy and you have Dunn batting 7th but Rios batting 2nd? In what world does any of that make sense? Like I said above, you have to show confidence in these guys, because right now, they have none. You have to show Peavy and Dunn and Rios that there are certain expectations for them and you have the confidence in them to turn it around. It makes sense in the world that I think Dunn is finished. I expect nothing more than .220 and 20 hrs. That should be hitting 7th or actually out of the lineup. I have Rios batting second by default. Like I said the choices aren't very good. And by having Sale over Peavy I am showing confidence in Sale because I expect him to be on the team a lot longer than Peavy so if you are going to use the confidence logic, then why wouldn't you place it in the guy who will be here for a while.

I am surprised so many people have Dunn that high. I want him nowhere near the middle of the order. DeAza Rios Konerko Vicedo Ramirez AJ Dunn Beckham Morel I don't love the 4-5 combo but we don't have much to work with. Danks Floyd Humber Sale Peavy

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) Got it, haven't read it yet. I read it, didn't like it much at all. Nothing much happened and the whole story was very predictable. And I really liked Momento, but haven't tried meth.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) If his performance since then hasn't earned at least a couple months for a rebuilding team to see if he can actually become a MLB starter, then it's impossible to earn a starting job based on minor league performance. If he comes out and struggles, the clock will be ticking. He really needs to start rolling, at least decently, in April and May. Sure he has earned a shot, I just have my doubts about whether he will be a plus player. And to comment on two posts in one, I agree the Tigers are much much better than the Sox.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 06:43 AM) So, has anybody played Curt Schilling's new game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? I saw a guy playing it for a bit and the combat system looked pretty fun. I had no idea Schilling was a big rpg guy... A buddy of mine has it and said its really good. I will try it after he is done. I finally downloaded Plants v. Zombies to my Xbox. Amazing that such a simple game with primitive graphics can be so addicting.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) If DeAza's projected to be below average for LF, how can we know that for certain, with how well he played in 2011 for us? It's easy to say Dunn/Beckham/Rios will suck again, but why can't DeAza continue to excel? The theory that he will be worn down with everyday play and exposed when facing both LH and RH pitching? Or simply because he's never had a full, healthy season of everyday starts in the majors before now? We don't know for certain. Just based on the fact that he is 28 and never had a full time job leads me to believe that he isn't all that great. Plus last year was limited sample size. I am actually hoping that Rios is in LF and DeAza in CF.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) I'm in a similar mood regarding this team to 2k5. My only difference is that I don't think it's the "Tigers falling back" that would put the Sox in contention, I think it's the Sox playing well above their heads. If the Tigers fall back hard, I think it most likely becomes a tight race with 3, maybe 4 teams, because i could see the Royals and Indians putting together better than .500 seasons as well. For the Sox to really compete, they need everything to work, and they need everyone to have enough success to where they can push >90 wins. That's a huge level of improvement from everyone, since my brain is putting them in the range of the 78 or so they were near last year. Same here. I put the odds at around 25-1, maybe worse. The offense is going to be bad. Not only are there a number of question marks as everyone has mentioned, but also there is no real upside from these guys. Only one player, Dayan, has legitimate upside above his projections. Whoever is in LF is going to be below average for that spot. Dunn is finished. Morel's ceiling is league average. I think only SS 1b and possibly RF will be above average. The pitching has nice depth but lacks the elite quality to overcome the bad offense.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Amanda Seyfried's getting annoying, too. She's kind of morphing into Scarlett Johannson #2. (Although Scar-Jo was fairly tolerable in WE BOUGHT A ZOO). Give me Anne Hathaway or Rachel McAdams anytime! And, the jury's still out on whether Justin Timberlake can carry a movie on his own or not. Mixed evidence, at best. I like Amanda a lot, plus she is not afraid to get naked. But also a big Scarlett and Anne fan too.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) I struggle to figure out how a player who "just isn't very good" can do what he did out of the gates in 2009. It is odd but it certainly has happened many times before to guys who had better years than he did in 09.

QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Feb 20, 2012 -> 01:28 PM) I dragged a bunch of my girlfriends out to see The Grey last night. I REALLY enjoyed it. Yeah, call me a complete wimp, but I was scared for a good part of the film. While in undergrad & grad school, I barely got to see any films at all, so this story was at the very least something new and fresh for me--unlike the SAME.OLD.ROMANTIC.COMEDY.BULLs*** my friends get all excited about time and again. I saw Safe House on a date last weekend and that was okay, but not nearly as thrilling as The Grey. (I felt like I'd seen Safe House ten times before.) Related note: I'm feuding with these girlfriends today after speaking with my sister this morning. She scolded me for not staying til the end of the credits on The Grey as I usually do. (My friends were whining that they were bored and I couldn't take it anymore so I left with them.) I guess I missed out on something great. Damnit. I saw the Grey last night too. I liked it a lot but my wife hated it. We left before the credits ended as well, now I am curious what we missed.

QUOTE (daggins @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) It is remarkably hard to factually prove that someone was rushed but I would say Beckham's performance the last couple years probably indicates he was rushed. I think its more likely that he just isn't very good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) Nobody scouted Mike Trout that highly. the point being that he was picked two spots after mitchell and the sox never even looked at him
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) His terrible injury did him in, not any bad scouting by the Sox. the bad was not even scouting Mike Trout and picking Mitchell ahead of him

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) Sort of off topic, the last Decoded was on Houdini's death. I had no idea the type of life the guy lived. Wow. damn i missed that one. sometimes that show is pretty hokey but occasionally there are good ones

QUOTE (The Critic @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) I finally finished Bob Mould's autobio, and I just picked up two books I'm excited to read: Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside of AC/DC by Dave Evans Surviving The Ramones by DeeDee Ramone As you can probably tell, I prefer biographies to fiction. I like bios too. One of my favorites was the one on Houdini.

Just finished The Art of Fielding. I liked it and the baseball story made it an easy read. Also read Manhunt, the search for John Wilkes Booth. Excellent with a lot of detail.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) I think the best chance to deal Floyd is to Baltimore, but do they have anyone worth a s*** left in their system? I remember a lot of people being high on their young arms a few years ago, but where are they now? Last I heard, their system was supposedly pretty weak. I dont think we will get much for Floyd, not a big market for him

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 07:10 PM) Santos Viciedo (the jury's still out) Addison Reed picking up DeAza for nothing Phil Humber The Ohman 2 year deal isn't horrible...in the overall list of worst decisions of MLB GM's, it's just "meh." I'll agree that if Rios/Dunn/Peavy don't perform at all this year and we have to eat all of their contracts (without Rios or Dunn just retiring or giving up), then we're in huge trouble. We all know that. the jury is certainly still out on addison reed

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Watching him tell his dad he made the team was one of the best tv moments of all time for me. Yeah that was pretty cool seeing that. Sucks that all the good guys are leaving and we are stuck with the unlikeable overpaid ones.
