  1. Engel is nothing more than an AAAA outfielder. No reason he should be platooning on a contending team. I’d rather let Mazara take his lumps and see if he can turn his splits around versus going with him as your other option. I would re-explore Joc talks before going into the season with him getting any significant playing time
  2. NL teams as well....Cubs, Diamondbacks, Cards have all been rumored to be interested in him
  3. I’ve heard this from a few different people. The potential his bat brings to the table would make this offense just so damn good. Not a knock on EE but man he could be something special in our lineup for a few years vs 1 season of EE
  4. In my opinion if you add one more bat you are better than the Twins. The Sox have turned over half the lineup and bolstered the rotation with 2 starters (3 when Kopech comes back) while Minnesota has lost a starter. You can not compare this current sox team to last years. I expect a big jump with our additions.
  5. This. Get the player now, worry about the excess later. Pitching is always needed down the line even with our potential 7 man rotation issue at the end of this upcoming season. If you have a surplus of something worry about that down the line.
  6. Correction: no room for Mazara
  7. He was 30 just 5 minutes ago
  8. I think we are all forgetting how the team likes to have flexibility with the lineup. Castellanos brings that, he can serve as your typical full time DH play or when Ricky gets the hair to play both catchers at the same time you can move him to the OF without having Leury or Engle having to play that much. You wouldn’t have a gaping hole in your lineup with a bench player day in and day out
  9. This. If you get Castellanos you almost make the lineups that Ricky can run out there fool proof to where he can’t possibly Jack it up, although somehow I’m sure he could find a way
  10. Mazara would end up still playing a lot of RF would be my guess with Castellanos playing DH and moving to RF when Grandal is DH
  11. Pretty sure Ricky doesn’t give a crap about playing both catchers at the same time. If I recall he did it quite a few times last season without Collins being called up.
  12. Agreed. I was just pointing out that the Sox and rightfully so do care about service time and if it wasn’t for the extension he would have never started out in Chicago.
  13. Castellanos, Donaldson and Ozuna are the best bats out there right now and I would bet that Castellanos holds out the longest of those 3, Boras won’t let him get less than Ozuna at a minimum I’d be willing to bet
  14. If I remember correctly Eloy was sent down right before the extension was signed so the plan was for him to wait the few weeks in Charlotte before coming up. Fortunately they reached that deal and he became he opening day LF all of a sudden
  15. I have a feeling Collins is as good as gone regardless. He isn’t in your plans to be the starting catcher. First base is locked up with Vaughn and Abreu and he isn’t going to be your DH. Don’t see any room for him on the roster as is and they might as well get whatever value they can out of him now.
  16. I think anything 60-80 mil range will be what he gets.
  17. Anyone know the payroll for the next few years. I thought I read a tweet or message on here somewhere saying it drops to like 76 mil next season. I don’t think any castellanos signing will cripple payroll in 3-4 years especially if you are only at 110 right now and this team gets good. JR and the Sox have spent when the team is good. No reason to doubt that moving forward
  18. This would be one of the times I wouldn’t complain about it either
  19. You really want to bank on a Betts type FA next year? I give the front office credit but c’mon everyone is going to be in on him next offseason. Adding castellanos does not block Vaughn. If anything it makes Mazara a role player, when Vaughn is ready you move Mazara to the bench Castellanos to RF and you have Abreu and Vaughn at DH/1B. Castellanos doesn’t block anyone in my opinion
  20. Of the two I think Castellanos fits better in terms of years of control and he can do more than just DH. He can play the corner OF and possibly back up 1B if needed. Rumors are that he likes Chicago. He would be my target and have Encarnacion as plan B
  21. Castellanos is the guy that fits the team the best in the long run. Get the deal done Hahn and call it and move onto the bullpen
  22. I think he means if the option doesn’t vest Keuchel has probably either gotten hurt or been really bad and has been a revolving door in the rotation like in previous years
  23. Too even I think it’s 1 year 7.5 mil.
  24. Has anyone had a scoop on any move this offseason
  25. Probably shopped for a relief pitcher my guess
