Given the choice between staying and dying or leaving and maybe having to replace a few material possessions, they pick the former. I don't get it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) While to a certain extent I agree, there may be a lot of factors in individual cases we may not know about. What if the person or family doesn't have much money to begin with and nowhere to go? What if they have no family or friends elsewhere to stay with? What if they don't speak good English and didn't realize they were told to evacuate? What if they don't own a car in order to drive away? It may not be as easy as "Why didn't they just leave?" I realize there are extenuating circumstances for each case, but one of the stories the woman was leaving the house in her car when the car got stuck in flood waters and her kids got swept away. So she obviously had a way to get out and had someplace in mind to go. She just made the decision to leave much too late.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Lilly's a good guy for throwing away that easy ground ball, but I think it's time for a new utility man. He's a flop. You know he got traded to the Red Sox in June right?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) I think the Sox would be doing handstands in joy if somebody would take Dunn and his contract off the Sox hands. Do you all at least agree on that? No.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 12:07 PM) Its kind of hard to blame Konerko and Rios since each had a higher OBP and SLG pct. than Adam. Then who should we blame for Adam Dunn not scoring a run after he walks? I would think it's those 2 that had the most PA's with Adam standing on first.

I've read at least 2 stories of people dieing when they were trying to leave their house or get to higher ground after it started flooding. One hand, it's horrible to hear stories like this but on the other hand, why didn't these people listen when they were told to evactuate a week prior?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) Really? If Konerko is directly behind him, for Dunn to score he has to homer or hit a long double (I'm taking triple out of the equation). Shouldn't it shake down the line up? What's funny is if Dunn got back to his 2009 level in 2013, he legitimately could be a candidate for comeback player of the year 2 years in a row. Yes, a little bit, but the guy batting behind him is the only one guaranteed to have some effect on his scoring via a walk. Especially if he makes the third out or GIDP. It's his job, if nothing else, to move him up a base or 2. If that guy isn't doing his job, it makes it that much more difficult for anyone batting further back to do it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) Blame Konerko for Adam Dunn. Wow. Rios was behind Dunn as well. Might as well blame him too. Konerko didn't seem to be a minor league hitter when he had Dunn behind him in 2011. If your argument is that his walks haven't translated to runs that's exactly who you should be blaming.

Really, the most fun was had after-hours at the bar hanging out with fellow sox fans and chatting with the players when they came down. From what I've heard, that doesn't happen much anymore. The town meetings with Sox brass was always interesting as well. Getting the actual autographs was probably 3rd on my list. Although I managed to get a picture with Hawk and DJ one year where they actually game out from behind the table and stood on either side of me. Their line was always much, much shorter. I've also got a couple of blackmail pics of a friend of mine with Frank Thomas and Aaron Rowand. He's a Cubs fan.

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) No costume pictures, but I heard today of someone that covered onions in chocolate and gave them to callers.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) I disagree. The Tigers were on life support 3 different times where the team could beat nobody that didn't wear a White Sox uniform. Sox had chances to put that team away and never could do it. Do you remember the LONG STRETCH where Detroit could beat nobody but the Sox? There was a stretch between 8/28 and 9/12 where the Tigers went 6 - 9 with 5 of those wins coming against the Sox. The problem is that they went 13 - 7 after that when the Sox couldn't buy a win. So they went through a bad patch but over 162 games, they were the better team.
-
Actually putting Ozzie with the Royals might benefit the Sox. It almost looks like they are getting their act together down there. Hiring Ozzie should knock them back a couple of years.

This would be even better if there was somebody sitting in the back seat waving as they drove by.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) You guys had Trick or Treating yesterday? On Halloween? Don't you know how dangerous that was? Kids IN DANGER. Should have kept the kids safe by doing it Sunday from 1-4! Duh! Ours did both. As well as Oct 6 at our campground.

2012-2013 MLB off season tracker thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) What was Bryce Harper for Halloween? A clown, of course. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-b...own-costume-bro Yea, I didn't dress up either. -
The only show I keep up with regularly is Sons of Anarchy. I feel like I'm missing out when I hear everyone talking about all the other shows I don't watch though. Things like Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead. I just don't have the time to watch them.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) I am confused as to why teenagers and college kids these days are dressing as Ninja Turltes, Power Rangers, etc. They have probably never even seen a Ninja Turtle cartoon or played with a Ninja Turtle action figure. GET YOUR OWN SH*T KIDS! They are always bringing back and re-making 80's cartoons and toys. I just saw an entire display of TMNT action figures at the store a couple of days ago. I know I saw a TMNT cartoon on Saturday morning over the summer as well. IIRC, they are even making a new movie. They've done the same thing with the Smurfs, My Little Pony, Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man, etc...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) The Giants support my theory. Thank you. Look up the word "sarcasm". Then please stop posting about your idiotic theory that is impossible to even prove.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) They choked because they didn't have enough offense. FIFY

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) I wish the 2013 tigers were complacent and lazy. Sadly, this is not so, therefore they are unbeatable. They should be favored to win the WS now after they have embarrassed all the the AL They better watch out for the Padres and Dodgers who should have an easy path to the playoffs over the now complacent and lazy Giants.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Sounds like someone who doesnt drive on LSD often. LSD is generally the best road when there is a snow storm as it is easy to clean and they do it very regularly. It was a "perfect storm" that a bus went off the road at one of the worst exists, effectively shutting down the road going north. Im pretty sure there werent any issues going south, so it was literally just a fluke. I have used the road every day for the last 7 years, at the last minute I chose not to take it because the visibility seemed extremely poor. IIRC, it was more than just one bus. There were like 4 or 5 accidents within 30 minutes. The bus is just kinda what started it all.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) I think a lot of people agree with my views, they just don't post a lot. The people that hate me are the ones that post. Positive thinking I guess... Kind of like when I walk into a store and see a bunch of Cubs stuff and no Sox stuff at all. I just say to myself "Well, they must have just sold out of the Sox stuff already."

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) I just saw where the major league qualifying offer to 2013 free agents was set at a little over $13 Million. This is the amount we would have to offer AJ in order to get a draft pick. Not gonna happen. Is that for ALL free agents? I thought it went by position?

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Greg is a troll or a very young person. The very nature of his reasoning leads most to believe that. I have another theory because I don't think he's all that young. Although I don't know enough about him to be sure.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 11:48 PM) Thanks brotha, I also managed to borrow 800 dollars between 3 people so it's gonna happen...Getting a cheap craigslist car that HOPEFULLY lasts me 2 months while I save for somethin nice. It's a 7 days a week job, is that even legal?? I won't mind it for a few months but I'm def gonna be looking for a security job the whole time I'm there. IIRC, they can't make you work more than 14 days in a row without giving you a day off.
