  1. I got a bunch of images of the old Atari game.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) This simple response is so obvious, why are their so many posts on this subject. This broad complaining about it should take on a real problem. Because the adults got involved and the outrage was born. Meanwhile Disney will make millions of dollars because little girls will want the new "princess" version of the character and they'll have no idea why their parents are making a big deal about it.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) 1) More make-up, much "prettier" face or appearance 2) Tighter outfit, noticeably smaller/tinier waistline 3) The "wholesome" Disney-esque hint of cleavage in the new version 4) Clothes are less frumpy and more fashionable....also reinforcing idea girls need to dress "sexy" instead of being judged by their brains/merit I just think there's a difference between a little girl wanting to dress up like the character from the movie and go out and shoot a bow and arrow and wanting to dress up like a princess and put on a bunch of makeup and a fancy dress. It's possible to do both. The character was becoming an official Disney princess so they dressed her up a little bit. I still don't see the size difference in the pictures.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) Illini, First we need to separate the modeling. Models are abnormal. Most actresses are not model thin. Many people dont even find that thin attractive. It just happens that clothing designers (who strangely arent the macho men that seem to scare people at night) are fascinated with thin girls that look like young boys... Im not sure I need to explain that one further. I've heard it's because the designers literally want the clothes to "hang" on them. So they want them as thin as a coat hanger.
  5. Is the size of the character really the problem here? She doesn't look any thinner to me. Her face and hair are different but that could be done to any actress by showing a before/after with her hair and makeup done.
  6. I have three girls that grew up playing with Barbies and watching the Disney princess movies and none of them have any sort of body issues. I myself grew up playing with over-muscled action figures like He-man and GI joe and never had a thought to try and imitate their body styles.
  7. When I was in HS I remember having to read: 12 Angry Men To Kill a Mockingbird Romeo and Juliet The Crucible Great Expectations Those last two I remember almost nothing about them. A few other stories I remember reading in school are: Something for Joey, Where the Red Fern Grows, Soup and Me. Some of the "classics" I've never actually read: Of Mice and Men The Great Gatsby The Scarlett Letter Lord of the Flies The Lottery Catcher in the Rye I'm currently reading Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They are all put together in a single paperback. I'm only halfway through Frankenstein and having only a vague knowledge of the story based on movies and other pop culture, it's not what I was expecting at all.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) Along with people complaining about it. That's always my favorite. A lot of good posters have left over the years and most of the people still there have no idea how or why.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) How would that even work, anyway? I can understand if it would have been the walk-off run, but how would it have worked in this scenario? I believe they would've had to replay the game from that point on.
  10. Anyone remember Baseball Simulator for NES? There was one team that had 2 players that could bunt the ball and get to second before the fielder even got to the ball. There was also another player on that team that would hit a homerun every single time he was up. You were guaranteed at least 4 runs in the first inning. It was also really easy to just bunt when there was a runner on third because the computer would always throw the ball home. So I would just start the runner towards home and then go back to third. Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball was another fun NES game. It's the only game I've ever played that had choice between fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball. Slow-pitch meant no stealing and 4 outfielders.

  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2013 -> 01:48 AM) Fitness/nutrition/diet classes belong in KG, elementary, middle school and high school It is. Or at least it was when I was there. I'm pretty sure PE is still required all 4 years at my old HS.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ May 1, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) Heard that Britney Griner came out...after the NCAA tourney. Never made a big story of it. Is it more acceptable to be gay in the WNBA? Remember, not all wnba players look like Brittany Jackson. It's stereotyping but I think it's that way with a lot of womens sports.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) What about his twin brother? or the WNBA player who came out then changed her mind and married a man. There are other example of twins where one is gay and one is straight. In fact, my wife grew up with a pair as her neighbors. She said everyone knew even when they were kids that the one was gay . I don't think people can choose to be gay but they can choose how to live their lives. I have a cousin that is gay even though he has a biological son from his ex-wife.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 26, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) Doubtful at best. Playing the game doesn't equal knowing the game better, it's such a pointless card to play. What is it, 2-3 GMs right now actually played the game at the MLB level? Since KW moved up I believe it's just one. It's the guy in Oakland that Hawk thinks wrote Moneyball.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 07:49 AM) The wife and I decided to order a Sodastream last week. It arrived yesterday. It's incredible - healthy, tasty, bubbly soda whenever you want. She had Diet Root Beer last night and I made Diet Orange. It tastes just like Crush. F*cking delicious. With the cost of the flavor bottles and the co2 do you actually save any money using that? I can get a 2-liter for about a buck and can catch a sale and get a 12 pack of cans for $2.50. That's less than 21 cents a can.

    Should I go?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) no jumbotron (they add absolutely nothing IMO) It would be nice for the casual fans who don't memorize player numbers to know who is who on the field. Especially since the Cubs players don't have names on the backs of their home jerseys.
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) I've been watching the graph for the Kishwaukee river in Belvidere. That's the river that runs through the campground we go to. Our camper was literally 50 feet away from the river itself. It got up over 7.5 feet yesterday and it's currently over 12'. Anything over 6' is cause for concern. We had to move our camper to the parking lot on other side of the campground to save it.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 11:12 PM) Is this a Juan Pierre reference? Wise has pretty good pop (as does Danks). They certainly don't have "no power". I was just quoting the original post.
  20. The FM tuner on my MP3 player has started crapping out. I didn't even know that was possible. It plays MP3s just fine though. That sucks because I was perfectly happy listening to the radio when I get bored with the 100 or so songs I have on it. I've been thinking about getting a cheap little battery-powered AM/FM walkman for like $15. Then I can listen to Sox games during the day as well.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) They've got to give him enough time to develop his picks. However, I think they are ridiculously stupid for signing some of the players they did that may actually make them NOT the worst team in the league. If you get the keys to do an entire rebuild, tank, and tank hard. With the Astros moving to the AL they have a shot at it. The Marlins still might be worse though. I'm not sure what the Cubs fan base would do with a total "Marlins-like" sell-off. They have finally started to discover the last couple of years that losing isn't really all that fun. I think most of the one that are still left are either the die-hards that are terrified that they'll finally win it all the year they decide to jump ship or the casual fans that are just there to drink beer and party. But the numbers of definitely declining. They have a lot of faith in Theo's 5-year plan.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) Not sure who this is supposed to be in reference to I think it's a badly-worded joke. He's asking which team holds the record for having the most number of speedy, left-handed outfielders with no power . The Sox have 2, Danks and Wise.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) what ever happened to civic duty? On my list of priorities paying my bills > civic duty.
  24. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 07:57 AM) I've served both on a civil suit (1/2 day and gone) and as a member of a grand jury (a full month). Here's what to expect. You will spend a lot of time waiting around. There's a decent chance you never make it out of the waiting room. But if you do, you and a group of other potential jurors will brought to an individual courtroom. The people who don't want to be there will be given a brief opportunity to explain why they need to leave (sick mother, need to work, etc). Then you'll be questioned by attorneys to further filter the group. If you get past this part, congrats, you are a juror. Hope that your fellow jurors aren't complete morons who make you lost trust in the justice system. You don't need to wear a tie, but try to look presentable. I never got this opportunity. We went into the courtroom and they just kept calling more people to sit in the juror box until it was full. Then we were questioned by the attorneys while everyone was there. I didn't get picked but it was about 2 PM by the time I got out of there so I lost a full day's pay.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) I think it was CNN that I was looking at, theirs are worse. The people that comment on random internet stories are usually the lowest form of internet posters. In my experience, they are never worth reading or responding to.
