QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Sox said they sold over 4k tickets on GAME DAY for Monday's game. And they had like 29k, or something, I think (I should look up the exact number). There was a definite A-Rod bump for Monday. Tuesday's game came down to more like normal levels, I think. 27,948 on Monday and 23,826 on Tuesday. So maybe there was a slight bump, but I wonder what their average walk-up sales are on a Monday night.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) I think it's funny that White Sox fans wouldn't go to the ballpark last year to watch a 1st place team but there were meatballs walking up to attend a game to boo A-Rod. Mind boggling to me. Not to mention, the Sox have Quintana and Flowers on the roster who have both tested positive. Just funny. The attendance numbers for the last 2 nights have been right in line with the rest of the season so far. I doubt Arod playing in the game had much to do with it.

Helmets are a part of it as well. Guys with no helmets were much more likely to try and avoid any contact with their head when there wasn't anything to protect it. I just read an article that said the same thing about boxing gloves. Bare-knuckle boxers were much less likely to hit their opponent in the head because it hurt more. With gloves, they don't have to worry about breaking their hands on someones noggin.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) My dad is my lawyer, so if it were illegal, I hope he'd catch it. The good news is that I do like the new 2013 Civic, just kind of didn't expect HAVING to get it and not look. Is this gap insurance through the dealer or something?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) I've never heard of such a thing. I've totaled two cars in my life and both times I've just gotten a check for the value to do with as I please. Same here. In fact, that doesn't even sound legal. I know most insurance companies will also try to get you to take your car to a specific "preferred" body shop but you aren't required to go there. I didn't like the shop my insurance always recommended so I would just tell them that I'd be going to another shop that was literally half a mile down the road from the recommended one.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Wow! 250+ pages on this subject. "Other " sites don't even dent that. Good job Sox Talk! I've only got 52. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) I always hate how she thinks its so funny to pitch her hardest at celebrity softball games and have major leaguers not be able to hit it. Yet I've never seen her stand in the box against Randy Johnson. The only reason big leaguers can't hit the softball is because its different. If they had a couple days to practice, they would light her up. She's never exactly been known for her hitting. Even in softball. Most people simply don't realize how difficult it is to hit a softball coming in that fast at that short of a distance. They just see this little blond girl pitching to guys that they've seen hit baseballs 400+ feet. Pitting her against RJ they would say, "of course he's going to strike her out. Look what he did to major league hitters." It's not quite the same thing. Also based on the study I'm not sure a few days would be enough time. It might take them weeks/months and maybe even years. You have to remember that she was really good at making other professional softball players with many years of experience whiff at her pitches as well.

Interesting story about why some of the best hitters in MLB can hit 95 MPH pitches from other ML pitchers but can't even get a bat on a 65 MPH softball pitched by Jennie Finch. I've always said it's the pitching motion that messes them up. I had the exact opposite problem. I played fast-pitch for 10+ years with no problem when I was a kid, but struggled like hell to hit a baseball on my HS team. Link

Even the jurors have come out and said they wish they could've found him guilty but couldn't because of the way the laws are written. In a vacuum, without taking into account how he got into the situation, it's possible that he was in fear of his life at the exact instant he fired the gun. I just don't know if that's how the law should be interpreted.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Which is just f***ing sad. The dude was found not guilty. Ryan Braun never failed a drug test either.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 11:19 PM) Is the main reason the Sox reek the simple fact we can't lift and pull the ball over the fence anymore? Not to mention the fact we can't catch the ball? But isn't it true the ol' lift and pull philosophy has gotten us again? This time we simply can't hit enough home runs to beat anybody? Our victory formula offensively remains the HR ball and our power has been zapped? I think it's more the fact that they can't score runs period. Via homerun or otherwise. The only team that has scored less runs this year is the Marlins.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) He's a good stand up guy, his acting is mediocre. I love his bit about hot pockets as well as his one about fruitcake. His explanation about why we cut down Christmas trees and hang stockings is good too.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Yeah, Hyundai clearly has the best warranty out of all the manufacturers. They also have a lifetime warranty on all of the battery/hybrid equipment, whereas Ford's is only 8 years, 100k miles. But, it gets worse gas mileage (36/40 v. the Fusion's 47/47) and generally the reviews seem to think the Fusion drives a lot better. Was there anything else besides the warranty that tipped the scale for you? I remember the Sonata felt a little cramped at the auto show (i'm a bigger guy, 6 foot, 230), but it's been a while and it's not going to be my car so i'm sure it'll be fine for my wife. Financing might ultimately make the decision for me. Ford is at 1.9% for 60 months and Hyundai is 0%. After buying my Ford Escape at 0% i'm a little spoiled in that regard and feel a little "insulted" that I can't get 0% for a new car. Other than me knowing somebody that worked at the Hyundai dealership, not really. It was mostly the warranty. Although I did think the Fusion had an odd "blinking" noise when I used the turn signal. It's not something I usually notice as most turn signals make a similar noise but that one really stood out to me for some reason.

I got on FB a few years ago when my company decided to move their operation to Florida and all my coworkers and I were let go. So it was a good way to keep in touch with them and explore any job opportunities that came up. I ended up connecting with a friend of mine that I had lost track of after 5th grade. He was a financial advisor and actually helped me take care of my 401k from my old job. Another time I got together with a handful of my old classmates through FB and we built a float for our high school's 100 year anniversary. Just a couple of weeks ago I found out through FB that a girl that lived 5 houses away from me when we were kids had passed away. We were never really friends per se but it was sort of shocking to see that someone I'd known almost my whole life had died that young. I don't post all that much on there but it's certainly been useful in keeping me informed with things I would've otherwise missed. I'm also just nosy enough to be interested in what everyone else is doing with their lives. Even if it's someone I haven't talked to in years.

According to one of the jurors, the "stand your ground" law was the reason they aquitted him even though his lawyers never used that specific defense.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) Recently I've been trying to find a hybrid for my wife. Debating between the Ford Focus, Prius V and Hyundai Sonata. It'd be mostly a commuter car for her, with the need to be big enough to put a car seat (or two in the future) in the back and haul a kid to/from things. I've read up on all three models but haven't driven any yet, though I did sit in them at the auto show. Anyone have any of these models or know people that have them? The Focus and the Sonata were my top 2 choices when I was looking. I ended up with the Sonata and it's been great for me. The biggest difference was the 100,000 mile warranty. Ford only had 60,000.

I just traded in my 1993 suburban for a 2003 suburban. I'm actually proud of myself that I managed to talk them down from their original asking price to under the KBB price. I also managed to get $900 for my trade-in sight-unseen. It might have been worth a bit more than that but I didn't want to have to go through the hassle of selling it myself. It had a handful of minor cosmetic flaws and a few spots of rust but the engine only had 143,000 miles on it. Not bad for a 20 year old vehicle. The air-conditioning didn't work either which made it brutal to drive the past week or so. It's so nice to finally drive a suburban where everything works in it.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) He helped us win home field advantage....that is worth a lot more than any All Star Game MVP. Now come on Hahn.....go out there and trade for some bats. Lets go out and make this victory mean something in the second half of the season! It's kinda awesome that you're keeping this bit going.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Rob Neyer at least is saying it. http://www.baseballnation.com/2013/7/17/45...-mvp-chris-sale Kind of. Even he admits that Sale should have gotten in but he can see why Mo got it instead. This line stood out though: Does anyone remember who won it last year? The year before?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) I hope that was the crescendo of the Kiss Mariano Rivera's Ass Whenever the Tiniest Opportunity to Do So Presents Itself Farewell Tour. Also, I hope he's better at making up his mind than #4 was. Siked for Pt. II when Gold Glover follows suit. I'm not usually a grammar nazi but I think the word is "psyched".

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) I think Frank just hit the longest bomb in softball history. Back sometime in the early 90's when they had the rock-&-jock softball games on MTV they had a ball that was painted to look like an 8-ball. If a hitter choose to have that ball pitched to him/her and hit a home-run, it would count for 8 runs. Frank did, and he hit an 8-run homerun. I don't know how far it went but when they retrieved the ball, it literally had a dent in it.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) Hahaha what? That's beyond ridiculous. It's like they don't really know how the internet is supposed to function. They really don't. A large group of posters were perma-banned one night for a thread created on a completely different site.

FWIW, it would have been better if everyone would've just played along with the OP. Something like: Sure we have a chance! Let's trade for Harper, Trout and Puig! We'll be right back in this thing!

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Maybe its the 117 degree heat in Las Vegas making me crazy, but what if we decided to be buyers instead of sellers? We are only 10.5 games out of first place and no one seems prepared to run away with this division. Lets go out and trade for a 1B, 3B, C, OF, DH, and a couple of pitchers. If we have the opportunity, lets upgrade at other positions as well. We can turn this thing around with the pickup of 8 or 10 new players who contribute strongly. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we won the division after this start?? QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) We are only 13 games behind Detroit and have won 67% of our games against them with the current roster. Get aggressive, add 4 or 5 new bats to the lineup, and 14 out of the next 16 is possbile. That would leave us only 1 game to make up elsewhere and there's plenty of time to do it. Buy! Buy! Buy! No white flag trades in 2013!!! QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) If we add 4 or 5 more quality bats to our lineup, we can be favored in many of these games. This week's series shows we already have Detroit's number and that's the most important challenge to conquer. There's no reason we can't win this division if Hahn goes out and picks up 4 or 5 guys who can hit .300 and drive in 50+ runs after the break. Good one. Can we have a serious thread now?
